I was looking for Deus Ex mods a week ago, and was sad to see that this wasn't released. Pretty surprise to see it's finished now! I'll give it a try.
Actually they're "3D" made in "3DSMax", the only Photoshop work is some material definition. But like I said, it's either a flat boring textures or bake the lighting. Either way it's not going to look realistic to you, but it looks better with lighting. Good to see some people are liking it though.
I can see how this took a while.
Y'know, the DX10 renderer this includes also has POM support doesn't it? Couldn't that be the next step to making this pack look better, adding heightmaps for certain textures?
Gonna pass on this for a couple of reasons: the low geometry and character detail will clash horribly with the textures (think ENB series on GTA SA) like laserbeams said, the textures lack the grime and look incredibly fake, like something cobbled together in PS overall the effort is great but it just doesn't feel worth it.
But like I said, it's either a flat boring textures or bake the lighting.
a flat boring texture is much better in the case of deus ex because it means the textures won't clash with the lightning in the room this is what i meant when i said "without proper thought in how it would look to the player". because the shadow in that texture is impossible under the room's lightning condition, it looks out-of-place and fake. if you want the lightning to be better you need to work with the renderer which supports POM i think. that's a much better solution than attempting and failing at adding in lighting. it's an amateur mistake to put in lightning that goes beyond shading and highlighting. you'll notice that almost all deus ex textures do not have shadows painted on them unless they are used for a specific purpose.

Normal maps were a possibility for a subtle effect but the lighting position is fixed. The lighting is coming from above, as is the lighting in the room - so I'm not sure what part of that is impossible. I'll just say the 8,000 downloads seem to say otherwise, but feel free not to download it yourself.
