They lost my trust when they announced BF4.
They lost my trust when they announced BF4.
...Why?
They fixed the netcode. If there is a problem, it's most likely on your end. Don't blame DICE for problems they can't fix.
As I said, it's not on my end alone. Everyone I play with has been encountering similar problems (this is multiple people across multiple servers and regions), bad hit detection, rubber banding, unstable frame rates, just two days ago my friend and I crashed three times in as many hours. Just because you're not having problems doesn't mean nobody else is.
...Why?
Ergh been over this before. It's the same game - paying for it again did not greatly enamour them to me.

I stopped bothering with the Battlefield series when they force you to use a web browser and sign up/login to do anything. I like my games independent from external security/frilly stuff. The only DRM I can tolerate is Steam due to sales and its convenience. No, Origin is not convenient as Steam simply because Steam filled the niche first and people already invested enough money in it to not be replaced easily by Origin. [editline]9th October 2014[/editline] While BF3 was fun, it was too much of a fuss. I'm not wasting more money on BF4.
Didnt ea state that the bf4 launch was a success, a while ago? I think they're just trying to come across apologetic so people will buy their next product..
Well, glad at least one person has had a good time with it. But I and everyone I know who still bother playing it are still having frequent performance and netcode issues and crashes.
this is an awful argument and you know it "well I'm sad at least one person hasn't had a good time playing it, but I and everyone I know who still enjoy playing the game don't notice any performance or netcode issues, and haven't crashed"
As I said, it's not on my end alone. Either you're lying through your teeth and trying to defend your argument by saying "everyone" is on your side of the situation, you've got a shitty setup and it's all tripping up on your end, or you and your friends are awful players and are the types that blame lag and disconnects on shitty aim and scores
And that's a good thing. Until you can prove you're not giving me a fuckup of a product, I wont be buying said product. [editline]9th October 2014[/editline]
It's the same game.
It's really not. Even given a singular free weekend of it I figured that one out.
DICE did nothing wrong, the game itself is fine, it was just buggy as shit - which could be avoided if EA gave them more time, they're the ones to blame here.
No actually DICE has shown a consistent disregard for delivering products that work at launch. Every Battlefield game has had a sloppy launch but it was the unprecedented disaster that was Battlefield 4 that tipped people over the edge. Every Battlefield game though is of course published by EA so I'm sure people will attack them back to 1942 but there comes a point where maybe we should just start questioning the culture at their offices that allows such blatantly unfinished projects through.

I wasn't there for the start of BF2, but judging by some of the videos people had made. Eg, Every game had its problems and every game was fixed... eventually. Maybe they should just end the franchise. I thought BF3 was alright, and BF4 was fun, but everywhere I look people are acting like it's the worst game of the year. Hell, if I were to get my impressions based only on what I've read, I'd conclude that CoD; Ghosts was better than BF3 and BF4 combined. It's cool to hate, I guess.
I was there for BF2 and it was the same thing. And Vietnam. In fact I'd go so far as to say the only Battlefield game that really ever felt finished was 1942. And maybe Bad Company 1. All the others have followed the same process though: Release is buggy and over an agonizing 9 months or so it's finally fixed into something decently playable up until right before the next game is coming out when finally it feels complete. Case in point, the Battlefield 4 "Fall Patch" which fixed most (but not all) issues in the game came out a mere 3 weeks before the original release date for Hardline.
Maybe they should just end the franchise. I thought BF3 was alright, and BF4 was fun, but everywhere I look people are acting like it's the worst game of the year. They have their design quirks but the gameplay overall is executed very well. Guns feel awesome to shoot, damage model works, vehicles are fun to drive (not so much in BF4 but they added boats so it balances out). One thing I think people miss out when remembering how great Battlefield was before DICE ruined it was how fucking garbage infantry combat was in older games. Battlefield 3 completely turned this on it's head, making infantry gameplay exceedingly enjoyable and viable. So I don't think it was the worst game of the year. That said, I certainly think it was one of the worst launches of the year. CoD Ghosts was a paragon of perfection compared to the first 6 weeks of Battlefield 4.
this is an awful argument and you know it "well I'm sad at least one person hasn't had a good time playing it, but I and everyone I know who still enjoy playing the game don't notice any performance or netcode issues, and haven't crashed" like seriously this is the first complaining of these issues I've heard from someone claiming to actively play since launch. And you don't need to resort to insults either, I can show my hardware specs if you want (they all are within requirement range), and my stats as far as ingame performance are insignificant, I don't play competitively, I play to have some fun with my friends, which I can't really do with all these crashes and netcode issues. Also I think this: " the types that blame lag and disconnects on shitty aim and scores" was worded backwards, because I don't think I've ever heard of someone claiming that they were playing a game so badly they were causing lag.
I have an i5-2500k and it still ran like shit.
I had an i-5 2500k with a gtx440 and it ran fine at minimal with 45 fps average
Ergh been over this before. It's the same game - paying for it again did not greatly enamour them to me.
It really isn't, I've played Both, BF4 is quite the improvement over BF3.. 1 year later.
I had an i-5 2500k with a gtx440 and it ran fine at minimal with 45 fps average
I had a fucking Quad Core Pentium Processor for BF3 and it ran fine :U
or you and your friends are awful players and are the types that blame lag and disconnects on shitty aim and scores
This is a terrible argument and one that I have run through with Battlefield and Call of Duty fanboys over the years. Bad netcode is just bad netcode. There are enough videos and gifs of Battlefield 4's launch and subsequent (many) months to show that people who are perfectly capable of aiming and firing their guns just aren't having their bullets register against the bad guys they are shooting. I'm sure everyone knows that "one guy" who is always lagging despite having a great connection and a good computer, the guy who is actually really good at games and has an excuse for every death because it's just never because he got outplayed, but lets not make the exception the rule. It's low to call out criticism of a games weakpoint, especially one so vigorously documented as Battlefield hit detection, as just people whining because they are bad@games.
I got BF4 late, I love it. Closet to a modern BF2 we're gonna get. Man I love BF4, I'm actually having real fun with it. I am an easily satisfied person.
Hopefully Battlefront 3 will be made from what they learned.
The dramatic improvement in the treatment of Battlefield 4 once DICE Sweden was out of the picture has me worried that DICE Sweden was the problem. I only hope that can be attributed to their attention being split between supporting BF4 and working on Battlefront at the same time. Either way, even as a long time Battlefield fan (since the very beginning) I'm pretty doubtful of the quality of Battlefront 3. Today's Battlefield 4 is a really good game.
"We released an unfinished game and you got mad, so we're just gonna call it early access for a while"
but I have to say, even as a long time Battlefield fan (since the very beginning) I'm pretty doubtful of the quality of Battlefront 3.
As a long time fan of Battlefield it's almost our responsibility to be wary of another DICE game. Frankly BF4 shattered my trust and my friends trust in DICE to deliver. I'm never pre-ordering a game from them again and my friends are even more far gone, showing absolutely no interest in Hardline (despite them not making it) or Battlefront. Up until BF4 the amount of fun I could have in a Battlefield game outweighed the frustrating technical glitches but there is no fun to be had when servers and game clients are crashing because a tower collapsed, or because a helicopter rammed you, or because you fired a certain gun with a silencer on it, or because the map changed, or the various other things that should have been picked up in QA. [editline]9th October 2014[/editline]
I think it's what happens when somebody plays BF4 without the baggage and preconceived notions that came from playing at launch. Today's Battlefield 4 is a really good game.
Literally the exact same thing happened with BF3. A friend of mine didn't like launch Battlefield and quit, missing out on all the content. He came back while Aftermath was ending and End Game was about to release and bought premium because I told him how good the game became. End Game ended up reigniting his interest in Battlefield and we played almost until BF4 came out several months later and had an absolute blast. DICE is capable of making really good games, they just have a pervasive culture of never finishing them in time to sell.
BF4 2.0 made BF pretty better. But Still, there is so much shits all over the game. I got like 112 rank right now but I'm pretty getting disappointed slowly.
Haven't like DICE since BF:BC2 sorry :( lost my trust ages ago. Still love Vietnam and 1942, I play them fairly regularly
I thoroughly enjoyed BF4 more than any BF game because I don't let my sense of nostalgia cloud my vision.
Lost trust? Didn't still lose your money by tricking me into finally buying that piece of shit BF4. And then I even bought Premium, FUCK. And I didn't use my 2-week trial for a refund, FUCK. [editline]10th October 2014[/editline]
I thoroughly enjoyed BF4 more than any BF game because I don't let my sense of nostalgia cloud my vision.
I have never even played the previous BF's.. only BC2 and BF3 which were cool. BF4 not so much.
You lost my trust when EA started doing some bullshit, and the bullshit still continues on to this day and it's the reason why I am now boycotting EA until they learn how to make reasonable games.

BF4's launch was that fucking bad. I want to get excited about Battlefront but I just can't. I'm going to wait a few months before picking the game up. Also Hardline looks like total shit. I'm not even remotely interested in it.
What?? BF3 was extremely optimized for almost every card/cpu setup
Lol. I had a Geforce 9600 GT and a core2duo with 2.67 GHz, and that game ran terribly on my hardware. Even on the lowest settings at lower than native resolutions the game barely ever ran with more than 20 fps, and looked pretty much like half life 1. At the same time, the sound got terribly out of sync with everything, making the game entirely unplayable for me. That didn't change until I had enough money for a new computer.
dice should look into a new publisher when their contract is over.
