Steam is the king of the prison.
Origin is the fresh meat that just dropped the soap.
Origin will ultimately lose. Steam has been around for over a decade and is host to so many other indie developers and big wig companies where as Origin is just starting out with a company that doesn't necessarily care as much as Valve does about the community.
Steam. Origin is slow as shit for me anyway.
Steam. Origin is slow as shit for me anyway.
Steam simply because i already own games on it.. and more importantly it has my friends on it.
Most of us will be using Origin since some of EA's titles are going to be exclusive
I just want Battlefield 3 on Steam, dammit!
If I need to install/use Origin to use games I purchase in Steam I would rather not buy them. I can imagine it would be as bad as trying to use GFWL in steam purchased games.
if ME3/BF3 isnt on steam i won't buy them.
I'd still like to hear Valve's side of the story.
if ME3/BF3 isnt on steam i won't buy them.
And without Origin attached.
if ME3/BF3 isnt on steam i won't buy them.
You don't even have to use Origins to play the game you just need it for downloads and then you can add the game as a non steam game. But you don't want to have fun just because you can't make one account NOOOOOO one account is too hard(and you don't have to make an account just use an already existing EA account)
I honestly don't worship Steam, as it seems some people do. Steam completely screws anybody in the Eurozone over with their absolutely ridiculous prices that do not compare at all with other regions' prices. I don't see why I should be 100% loyal to them if they treat me and other Europeans like dirt. Competition is always good for the consumer, so I'm quite happy to try out Origin and give it a chance (even though I've quite a lot of my games on Steam).
How on earth do you come to that conclusion from this article?
From it I can only gather this:
1) Steam doesn’t want Origin bundled.
2) Steam takes a very high cut of all game sales
3) Steam don’t want you to sell your own DLC for games on Steam…even if you provide the download service and the payment system yourself.
It seems to me that it’s Steam that is being the greedy corporate overlord here and not EA. Keep in mind that Origin doesn’t look like it will just a sales platform. I think EA are genuinely trying to do a good product for PC players there with community features etc and a pretty easy to use download system which on the first go around is not as intrusive and terrible as GFWL and takes far less effort and memory than Steam.
Of course EA also want to get more money for their products, but Steam are dangerously close to being a monopoly and when you are a monopoly you just become greedy and arrogant, which is what Steam look like here.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, your opinion man.
Most of us will be using Origin since some of EA's titles are going to be exclusive
I won't buy them anyway, I can just use the "alternative methods" of playing the games.
Wait, just as an example, many Ubisoft games like Splinter Cell Conviction and Rainbow Six (I think AC: Brotherhood too) use some kind of Ubisoft launcher that downloads the patches on its own; then there are the Bioware DLCs off-site for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and Steam also does nothing against the forced installation of Games for Windows.
Steam never made a deal out of that; either EA is talking about something else/out of their ass or Steam suddenly changed that policy.

Anyways, I don't care what platform I am using, as long as it gets the job done. Although I still prefer Steam for the Steam Community.
Any competition is good for the costumer.
Origin's UI at this state is horrible for me. Whenever I type in the activation code I'm scared shittless, since it tends to not give any "Success!" prompts, and you don't know if you unlocked a game until you restart it. Although you can start games without it running, so that's something it's better at.
but:
Origin guarantees download availability for at least one year after purchase. There is no limit to the number of times a game can be downloaded through the platform. When Origin retires a game, it can no longer be downloaded. As of June 2011, Origin has retired "around 10 games". According to EA's an account may be canceled after 24 months of non-use.
Haha oh wow.
But EAs patching and DLC services are utter shit rather than trying to force the consumer to only use their dreadful service can't they at least make there games work properly on steam. I love the idea of competition for steam but the problem is steam is a hell of a lot better at providing a quality service with the way it patches games and implements DLC as well as managing to provide far better deals than any service run by a company only interested in short term profits rather than a long term customer relationship.

also that is why EA can suck my dick
and steam has had no EA sales this summer no idea whose end this was but I bet EA is feeling the sting from that- man I was pretty wrong about that

why the fuck would i want to make a account for origin for one game when i have all my games on steam :downs:
As much as I love Steam, BF3 is not available pre-order there yet so I pre-ordered off Origin.

Ok then, that officially confirms me not using Origin.

Yes there was. NFS Shift series and The Sims 3 were both daily deals. So was BF:BC2 and it's DLC.

I just pre-ordered it from D2D. If I'm going to have to pre-order it from a non-steam service I'm going to specifically avoid Origin and just use something else. Besides, I've never had any problems with D2D before. That's something people seem to forget. Just because it isn't on Steam doesn't mean you have to settle for using Origin.
It's not even a War, Origin is about to get decimated.
I liked Origin way more when they still made the Wing-Commander games.

Valve does not set the prices for games on steam, FYI.

I won't ever buy a game that isn't on steam anyways. Unless it's console, but I only play very specific games on console.

Of course Steam set the prices. They might have a bit of discussion with the developers but ultimately Steam is a retailer and Steam set the prices to whatever they like.

If you were a retailer, would you buy in your stock for €50 each and sell it for €10 each?
