If you were a retailer, would you buy in your stock for €50 each and sell it for €10 each?
I'll show you some prices to convince you how much Steam rips us off. These are just random games I've thought of and checked. Amazon prices are pounds converted to Euro taken from the Amazon.co.uk website (my local Amazon website) at the time of writing, Steam prices are Euro taken directly from their store. (I'm not using the Steam Summer sale prices, as they only exist for a very short period).
Portal 2: 19 Euro on Amazon. 50 Euro on Steam.
Duke Nukem Forever: 22/23 Euro on Amazon. 50 Euro on Steam.
Shogun 2: Total War: 17 Euro on Amazon.40 Euro on Steam.
Fallout: New Vegas: 20 Euro on Amazon. 40 Euro on Steam.
Obviously Amazon makes profit on each of those games as they wouldn't sell them otherwise, so that means that Steam must make a huge profit on each game. That also means that Steam doesn't buy games for €50 each as you said, as why would Amazon sell games so much cheaper if they had to pay so much for stock??
It's just Steam being downright greedy and fairplay to them if they can get enough buyers to keep that business model. I for one try to boycott the Steam store unless there is a ridiculously good offer (which only happens at Summer and Christmas).

You cannot compare retail prices to digitally sold items, it is a whole different type of trade/market, if you cannot understand this, then by all means, don't use steam.
Both because I got the Sims3 on release for the PC soooo I'm stuck with origin and its not as shitty as everyone makes it out to be. In fact its pretty decent and not in your face like Steam.

How is steam in your face.

Everytime I end a game, I get adds. Which just lag....all the time for me.
[editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
Then there was the whole videocard update fiasco where the freeware videocard driver I had installed was overwritten when Steam started getting videocard stuff and that didn't end well for me.

What are you talking about?? Half of those games I compared are linked with Steam!! Shogun 2?? You need to register that on Steam. Portal 2?? You need to register that on Steam. If you cannot understand this, then by all means, use Steam.
[editline]9th July 2011[/editline]
And no, it isn't a whole different type of trade. It's an ever so slightly different trade.

Settings > Interface > "Notify me (with steam instant messages) about additions or changes..."

Uhhhhhhhh....Yeah sure, that was already on.
I know how to use the settings :v:
Well, fuck you EA.
I would be content with using Origin if not for the fact that I have to constantly play my EA titles to keep my account.

This alone makes me wish for a Steamworks-enabled Mass Effect 3.

They're saying that if you're not online at least once within about two years, they'll remove your account.
Its easy to avoid if you say, connect maybe once every year.

Well yeah. But still... Should be 5 or 10 years, that would be so long it really didn't matter at all.
Are you serious? Do people on steam with Crysis 2 currently still have it?(tldr)
Also, 2 year account removal? I used to like EA, now I hate them. What if I bought like, $500 worth of games on origin, and I go on vacation and go on a long camping trip with friends etc, and forget about orgiin for a bit. I come back, remember, and oh no, waste of money. 2 years can go by pretty fast, if you let it.

It shouldn't really be that difficult to get on atleast once.
It shouldn't really be that difficult to get on atleast once.
It shouldn't fucking be there to begin with. The idea that it even exists means EA has plans to screw over people.

OR plans to avoid overloading the servers with unused accounts.
I'm not saying it should be there, it is a dick move. But its understandable.

Register, not buy trough. How can you not understand the difference. Retail EA games are also cheaper than EADM/Origin bought titles.

Please explain to me how buying digital goods is so much different from buying from tangible retailers that the digital retailer (a.k.a Steam), can justify increasing the price by over 50%. If anything, it should be cheaper for digital retailers to sell products as they don't have to pay for delivery, pay for packaging or pay for manpower hours. There is virtually no middle man for Steam, so the price should be much cheaper. How can you not understand that?
I'm not talking about slight fluctuations between prices of retailers. Every retailer charges slightly different prices. This is why normal retailers selling EA games might be a bit cheaper or a bit more expensive than buying games bought on Origin. Steam, however, charges usually double or even triple the cost of buying from my local retailers. I'm not making these things up. Feel free to look up any games on Steam (their normal non-sale prices) and the same games on Amazon.co.uk. Most of the games will be around half the price on Amazon. You might find a few games that are slightly cheaper on Steam but that's about it.

Steam doesn't get the same offer from publishers that retailers get, obviously. Publishers don't want retailers to all go bankrupt, retailers have to have low prices to compete with steam, retailers get to buy the games for lower prices from publishers than steam does.

Steam sure doesn't have that problem! Guess maybe EA should get the fuck out of the digital store business if they have server issues.

Overload with unused accounts? Uhhhh
Overload with unused accounts? Uhhhh
oh shit you're right, everybody's rushing to origin
if ME3/BF3 isnt on steam i won't buy them.
Fuck I have to make another account ontop of Steam and download a small program that doesn't do anything except download the game! Fuck this I'm not getting no good games because I'm a lazy fuck.
Most of us will be using Origin since some of EA's titles are going to be exclusive
That's right. We'll be USING origin. Not because we want to, but because we'll briefly have to. That's the difference right there between Steam and Origin
Seriously Origin just started...
God damn, I can't picture Origin lasting too long. EA may be arrogant and greedy, but they're not retarded. They know when to stop if they start losing money.

You know it grew from EADM right?
Yeah, but with EADM you could still use Steam to buy and play the games. With Origin, there's no chance for big EA titles on Steam.
if ME3/BF3 isnt on steam i won't buy them.
Lucky for me I have other games to distract me from BF3 and ME3. Skyrim and Saint's Row The Third.

You need Origin/EADM for updates. That's how it is for Crysis 2, so I'm assuming this will be the problem with ME3 and BF3.
