I can't wait to follow my friends around with a shotgun when they're weaponless or injured and cry over the mic saying "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I never had a choice, I'm so sorry" before shooting them in the face.
Sadly this is just a pair of screens and there are no gameplay videos yet. So far Day Z is a buggy mod.
Fixed it for you. You can't say it isn't playable just because you haven't seen any gameplay videos yet, if it wasn't playable it would mean that all the screenshots were 3D renders made to scam us which so far doesn't seem to be the case, it isn't playable to the public, but it certainly is playable. [editline]22nd July 2012[/editline]
There is a very high chance of the community being pretty bad, at least in the CBT for sure.
There's always that chance, I probably won't be playing on any major servers anyways, what interests me most is the ability to create private servers, I have a pretty fast connection and I usually host a private Minecraft server for a few friends (around 16 of us) who are all fans of the zombie genre, so we will be having some fun by ourselves.
I will love this is there is no leveling, I hate jumping into a game instantly knowing that even if I shot a guy in the head with a low level pistol it would do little damage. Whereas the higher level can shoot my little toe and it does an overkill.
I'm pretty sure there is leveling, I just hope it's moddable or configurable enough to turn it off.
There's no leveling, but you do earn experience points which you use to learn new abilities or make them better, like make healing faster or have higher stamina.
There's no leveling, but you do earn experience points which you use to learn new abilities or make them better, like make healing faster or have higher stamina.
Yeah that's what I meant, I remember reading it somewhere, I only like leveling in this kind of games where it makes sense, like if you use your fists a lot you get better at it therefore dealing more damage with a punch up to a certain point, or if you shoot a lot the more you manage to shoot the enemy the less chance you have of missing later on, gradually getting better like that I'm ok with, I don't really like the whole "skill tree" system where you earn a certain number of XP and spend it on something and suddenly you can do something much better than before.
MMO with no subscription fees? Helloooo.
For slow zombies to work, ammo has to be scarce.
I think I would rather have scarce ammo than super fast zombies like dayz has. If there are fast zombies you should be able to shoot behind your back as a blind fire or something.
It doesn't really seem like an "MMO" in the traditional sense. Since each server seems to have 250 people its really just a game with a large map and a relatively medium population.
This sounds way to MMORPG for my taste. DayZ had it's immersion in it's realism. Sure it was buggy as hell, but it did away with leveling and shit. I mean, in real life, you don't bake bread and suddenly earn some more brain cells which you can use to make you better at math. You bake the bread and learn through trial and error how to make better bread. I never got why most games use a leveling system where you earn points to spend rather than a more realistic approach, like your skills getting better the more you use them. That also makes it easier for the game to adjust to player preferences. And stuff like "safe zones" and even pre-determined settlements sounds ridiculous. Why not give us the ability to sent up tents and camps like in DayZ and maybe hire NPC's to guard them, so we can set up our own settlements? In a game about survival, that seems like a good idea. All in all, I don't have high hopes for this. It looks like another online zombie shooter MMO that took a few pointers from DayZ during development.
It looks like another online zombie shooter MMO that took a few pointers from DayZ during development.
Alright so you're accusing it of being DayZ knockoff.
And stuff like "safe zones" and even pre-determined settlements sounds ridiculous. Not MMORPG There is no levels or any crap like that. You shouldn't bash the game for what it is at the moment. After all it's still in alpha - soon beta.
Cool idea. Shame it's another crappy MMO though...
Pointers like Eating Bandits Eating More bandits Eating Yeah so much stuff from DayZ that's ~so new~
No, what I was saying was that it seems like the game was in development as another zombie shooter MMORPG thing, and then DayZ came out and they found there was an actual market for "realistic" survival games, so they switched half-way through development to a more realistic style but left in some of those elements. And other things like safe zones are still kind of stupid in a game where human players could actually make settlements. The game doesn't look bad, but I it certainly doesn't seem like it captures it's full potential. Maybe I'm wrong though, I guess we'll see when the beta comes out.
For slow zombies to work, ammo has to be scarce.
Depends on the kinds of guns available and the number of zombies the game has to offer at a time. Even if ammo is not too scarce a high enough number of zombies could pose a threat to anyone. Think about what would happen in a city with a lot of zombies, if you get swarmed unless you have 6 people who can make a circle you'll probably die.
I don't like overall character leveling, but I think a proficiency based system would be great. You know, give some first aid, become quicker and more effective at giving first aid.
Urgh, no, that's what detracted from DayZ.
I didn't really like how DayZ turned into 'player vs. player while avoiding some zombies here and there'. It's always "are you friendly?" and "trust no one" going around in chat without any satisfying goals once you accomplish them, not anywhere near as satisfying as victory in a vanilla ARMA battle.

Honestly this seems like it will be a total bust 1. Comes out this fall, yet we've never ever heard about it at all and it was just announced 2. Developer that has zero pedigree to their name 3. Extremely ambitious pie-in-the-sky description and goals I can pretty much garuntee this'll come out and be a terribly balanced un-fun poorly designed PoS or that it'll be way too buggy/broken to work
Is this third or first person?
Is this third or first person?
Both, you can switch in-between

(in 2010) The Beta Signups have just begun.
The city portion looks amazing. Day Z used to be decent when people didn't shoot each other on sight all the time, but now its just ridiculous. Hopefully this game will be able to provide the ideal zombie survival experience.
Because if people can host their own servers, you could easily halt the RDM.
If the beta is fun and gets good reviews I think I would rather get this than play Dayz.
