the guilds in skyrim particularly were pretty fucking bad. in oblivion the mage questline was pretty awesome, you had to get recommendations from all the guilds in the land before you could begin the questline proper at the arcane university, you had perks and trinkets that you were given as you progressed and you unravelled a plot that was actually somewhat interesting. the final battle of that questline you actually knew was a final battle and despite being limited technically was fairly exciting. in skyrim my reaction to the ending of the mage questline was something along the lines of 'huh? oh, it's over. that's disappointing. I'm archmage now I guess, what do I get? a robe that boosts my magic slightly more than my current one? fuck this noise'
yea people have different tastes im shocked at this revelation as well
No, it's not that. It's just not true. You really just can't say just that it's "better at almost everything". You can easily say that Skyrim just has the things that you are looking for in a game, this making it better or more fun for you, though.
I'm moderately excited for skyblivion though because the skyrim engine is undoubtedly technically superior and fixes a lot of superficial issues that oblivion had. Unfortunately, recreating oblivion is a massive undertaking and will likely take years before it's ready, and Oblivion mods won't work with it which is a major draw for a lot of people at this stage in the game's lifecycle
No, it's not that. It's just not true. You really just can't say just that it's "better at almost everything".
you can if it's your opinion
you can if it's your opinion
This sentence was usually said in a objective manner though. It's hard to word what I have in mind. I think what I wanted to say is that a lot of things are watered down, or just straight up not present in Skyrim, but now that you mention it even it can be better in opinion.
I don't get it why everyone just loves Morrowind. Do some people just absolutely love giant mushrooms and a combat system that manages to be even more boring than Oblivion and Skyrim? Or is it just the nostalgia factor?
You really had to and could play any role.
If you buy this, make sure to level up your acrobatic skill. Then you'll be able to flip around like a ninja. One of coolest features of oblivion they took out of skyrim for some reason. Also get shivering isles dlc.
Oblivion + its expansions / dlcs is the only game I've completed out the lot
While I agree that Skyrim had pretty boring guild quests, Oblivion's Mage's Guild isn't the one I would use as my argument. Try something like Dark Brotherhood, it was just amazing. Nothing in Skyrim or Morrowind can top that.
mages guild was a fair to middling oblivion guild though, when even that is better than the cream of the skyrim questline crop you know something's up, probably something to do with them having no actual writers dark brotherhood is fucking gold and probably ranks as some of my top quests in any game [editline]2nd June 2013[/editline]
If you buy this, make sure to level up your acrobatic skill. Oblivion generally had a lot of good quests, the Amulet of Dreams quest, the Magic Painting quest, damn, that was creative.
Oh I'll agree Morrowind has great art direction, but I just can't get over the gameplay. But maybe it's just the fact that I didn't get into it when it was new.
The gameplay is shite, everyone's agreeing on that. There are plenty of mods that set the attack stat to 100 for everyone, effectively turning every hit into a successful one. Blocking is still automatic, I'm pretty sure dodging is negated. Depending on the mod enemies are not affected which makes for pitifully easy combat at first. But morrowind has been able to drag me in its universe more than skyrim and oblivion have ever been able to. The whole quest is more interesting than the MQ, and feels like you're actually accomplishing something. Not to mention the ending is pretty goddamn depressing. [sp]I never got to help out Teinaava. Oblivion gets a bunch of points for Whodunit alone god that quest was really fucking fun
this thread made me reinstall Oblivion brb spending more time looking for and installing mods than actually playing the game
I loved Oblivion's quest variety, but hated the character customization and animations, while combat was only just bearable. I never had the guts to break the law though, for fear of actual death by heart attack if the guards caught me (that fucking voice and the way the camera speeds around automatically to focus on their face as they talk to you) and the fact that killing someone without alerting the guards was really hard. Skyrim has some excellent looking and fun combat as well as gorgeous customization so that gives it massive points from me, but the quests are mostly pure shit. Crime is so easy its a pathetic joke and stops being fun after you've cut the throat and looted the shitty necklace from the hundreth civilian. Stealing is often a 90% chance even before level 20 with barely any skill points allocated to the tree. The game has little replayability without mods like 'Live another life', and completing quests you've already done feels dull compared to the enjoyment you had completing them the first time.

I once snuck into a house to steal something as part of a quest, and the guards came in from the upstairs bedroom to nab me... Stealth based gameplay that's challenging can be fun, but when the enemies don't behave in a logical or even consistent manner, it's frustrating.
I'm not sure about other quests, but I do believe some of the writers who worked on the thief series wrote the thieves guild quests in oblivion, which were pretty awesome.
I've tried playing this game many times and I never can get into it.
This game is the best RPG ever made, No exaggeration.
Really I think all 3 of the recent TES games have better things going for them than the others. You can't go wrong with any of them. I'm personally a filthy casual and like Skyrim the most, but I can see why people prefer the others over it. That said, I DO hope Beth steps it up a little for the next game. Namely in bug testing, writing, enemy variety, and more voice actors. And hopefully with the new generation we'll get a truly new engine.
yeah skyrim has a total of like, 10 voice actors.
i hope this game doesn't put the trademark symbol in the title on the library/profile list, it always bugs me when steam games do that
yeah skyrim has a total of like, 10 voice actors.
compared to oblivions 5 its an improvement
People always say it's worse than Skyrim/Morrowind. While it's true in some aspects, all the TES games have their negatives and positives equally.
One thing about Morrowind that I can't decide if I like or dislike is that to get to the interesting content, you have to REALLY WORK for it. In Skyrim and Oblivion you immediately start being a significant guy. In Morrowind you have to do a fuckton of grunt work/messenger boy shit before you get anywhere in any quest line. Oblivion actually kept some elements of that but Skyrim ditched it almost entirely.
compared to oblivions 5 its an improvement
They spent their entire voice actor budget to get Patrick Stewart to voice a character that dies ~5 minutes after you meet him.
In Morrowind you have to do a fuckton of grunt work/messenger boy shit before you get anywhere in any quest line.
Joining a guild at the bottom of the ranks shouldn't qualify you for serious business. I personally do not like games throwing me quests to save the day when I'm a no-body, completely immersion breaking and forgoes the pacing of writing. The glory isn't worth having if I haven't worked for it and have no emotional investment.
It'd be neat if you could port Oblivion into Skyrim's combat engine. Speaking of which, what's the best combat improving mod? Not monsters, not leveling, but raw combat.
yeah skyrim has a total of like, 10 voice actors.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Voice_Actors theres like 70
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Voice_Actors theres like 70
i sure as heck cant tell. they all still sound like the same 10 people
