• Time for an upgrade: DirectX 12 won't be available on Windows 7

Windows 10 looks to be fantastic, and significantly cheaper/easier to install as well so I don't mind as much. Keep in mind too, just like for DX10/11 after the LONG dominance DX9 had (and still has), it took 2-4 years after its launch before games seriously started using or requiring DX10/11. Especially since consoles were stuck on DX9 (and in this generation, they are stuck on DX11).
Wait, why are there people on 8 that haven't downloaded the free 8.1 update yet? It makes the whole thing much better.
probably why 8 is on the decline
At least the general tone from people who have used Windows 10 so far have been pretty positive, so upgrading will probably be a better option overall. Rather than Microsoft holding DX10 and Halo 2 hostage with Vista.
Wasn't the general tone of the Windows 8 beta fairly positive for the most part too but Microsoft removed like 90% of the stuff everyone was positive about? (I may be mistaken, this was awhile ago and I didn't pay it a ton of attention after all.)

But then M$ removed it completely. That got a lot of people mad.
It's quite bad considering Windows 7 is at 60% and Windows 8 is right at the end of its lifespan with Windows 10 coming.
Windows 7 was an outlier - Vista was a huge disappointment for most people, and XP was allowed to grow to a very high market share. Windows 7 was a great OS, and Windows 8 didn't offer much for people on desktop (I personally think it's an improvement, but the focus was definitely on convertibles and 2-in-1's), so it's only natural that it didn't have the same uptake. 30% is pretty good, especially compared to the overall market.
WHY. Just leave us alone with Windows 7 for a few more years. It is a perfectly acceptable operating system. I don't like the whole cloud/account integration in windows 8 and 10. I like the traditional format of Windows 7.
"ur dumb"
