While I agree with John Walker in that it's dumb that trans is filtered but gay isn't, I think this article demonstrates that the problem is less "social justice" and more that Walker is a terrible journalist with a complete lack of integrity.

Yeah that interview was awful. He just jumps the guy out of nowhere at end with something about scantly clad fantasy wisdom, which isn't something does particularly egregiously compared to the average for the genre, and acts like it's the next Frost/Nixon.
This is a near perfect example of a good point being absolutely dashed against the rocks by terrible handling and wording. The concept of "Trans isn't a bad word and should not be flagged" is relatively straightforward and agreeable, but he somehow worded it to make it seem like some sort of petition straight to Blizzard about installing specialized segregation functions. Thus many people drop the article before the real issue gets discussed, and the writer kills his own movement.

Not defending RPS but they do have two women on staff.
Someone is going to get offended no matter what they do. If they keep it this way, Trans people bet butthurt, if they allow it after this and Trans people flood it with all this Trans-whatever stuff, people are going to get offended by it. There's no winning. Don't get me wrong, i support pretty much everything on that end of the spectrum but one side can be just as volatile as the other so most times it's just best to stay out of it.

"Tumblrism" really only started getting out in the open sometime last year.
Why is CIS white male always used in a negative connotation? Also I'm pretty sure blizzard added a blanket word filter that had this in it, not some fight against trans people - most game companies are filled with the most progressive people on the planet.

honestly, ive never seen guilds that are gender-exclusive in WoW anyways, i bet they do exist but since its you know A GAME nobody cares other than talking to each other over stuff, i doubt people really do that because thats not what people talk about in guilds.
