I actually don't like the downvote system. I was browsing and noticed a common trend among commenters.
"X game looks similar to Y game of a completely different genre and budget but X game looks worse. Downvoted."
It was particularly striking with some niche indie games that I think would be absolutely brilliant for budget titles, but then people keep comparing it to a slightly similar setting AAA title. I'd rather it be just a thumbs up system. That way you can vote something up, and if you aren't interested you can just ignore the game. It'd be a shame to see potentially great games not come out on Steam because people downvote games on a whim.
"Downvoting" just removes the game from your queue, doesn't affect the game's rating.

Personally, I think $100 is fine for a commercial game, but free mods should be more like $10 or $25. Ideally it would be free, but it is an unfortunately necessary cost to get rid of the majority of spam.

Although I suppose you could argue that the cost is a lot less than the mod maker would probably be paying for server hosting (which if it gets on steam is no longer an issue).
Do big published games have to submit to greenlight as well?
Games like CoD, BF...

No, a lot of games will still go through the old submission system.

Ohh so you can still submit the game directly to valve?
In that case I see no problem with the $100 fee

Only AAA guys can. Or indies with a lot of rep.
Anyone who says "if your game can't make $100, it's not worth it", you're missing the point that unless you're well established person there's a high change your game won't even get noticed. I do hope the approval process is not purely community based and valve staff also browse some good less known games.
Before valve would reject many good games, now many good games simply don't get accepted. Not much of a difference in the system.
For example right now frontpage shows games that already have many votes. This does not help less noticed games.
Who knows if anything will change, I hope it will.
That's already how it works
Huh, the more you know. Thanks, I had no idea.
