DMC4 ran at 300 + FPS on a toaster. And it looked way better.

Can already be had for that price

Facial animation on dante is so bad, his face like folds in when smurking
Long Read:
To FINALLY get things out of the way:
DmC is a bad Devil May Cry Game.
But gameplay and (partially) presentationw wise its a very nice Hack n' Slash Game.
Also the PC Port is very good.
If you have played Heavenly Sword (also from Ninja Theory) and liked it you should consider getting this game aswell. DmC is pretty similar from the gameplay mechanics.
The game has a nice presentation:
The graphic is nice.
I'm not very much into Dubstep, and sometimes it really lowers the presentation for me, mostly in the boss fights. But there are also nice metal songs and of course the Combi Christ Part of the Soundtrack. But if you're a Dubstep fan, well good for you.
The Story is... well it's a story. It's not bad, but as a DMC Fan you'll notice its quite a different approach from the original series. It is a different story, of a different Dante in a different Universe, NOT a prequel. It is a reboot.
The gameplay:
It is different from DMC, it is basically Heavenly Sword 2. So don't expect to play it like DMC. It's not worse, it's different
Personally I think it's more accessible for newcomers (as they are part of the target audience). You have the same 3 Weapon System like in Heavenly Sword. Personally I would have prefered the 4 Style System from DMC4-s Dante Part.
A problem with this is, if you expect to play this as an experienced DMC player, you'll hit the "speed limit" quite fast, the game is lower, slow weapon animations don't allow improvised Cancel Combos.
People call it broken, but to be fair, this is because the gameplay is designed differently. It's simply different.
And yes I find this disappointing, too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2vz5CJU8DM
This video is a good example of "hitting the speed limit". Of course this saddens me, but this doesn't make the implented system broken.
Now to the "hard" part. The Main Character Dante.
As a DMC fan this would be the most off-putting thing. He's a different interpretation of Dante, another character. The problem with him is not his haircolor, but his whole presentation. He's a prick, similar to the old Dante. But Old Dante well... he at least has proven himself, he deserved to be like that. But New Dante just has a big mouth and also swears a lot to deliver some lines more funnily.
I'm not a fan of New Dante, but I had to laugh at some moments, maybe because I'm childish, but yeah.
So:
The game is NOT broken. It's a solid game. It's not a DMC Sequel. It calls itself a reboot, and I advise all fans of DMC not to see this as a DMC game, but as a new series.
If you're a Hardline DMC fan, pass on this
If you're a Hack n' Slash fan in general, get it in a sale, or if you have the money, get it,
If you liked Heavenly Sword, you should get this.
Just watch this.

It's okay, but if you want devil may cry, play dmc 3. If you're not that hardcore, play dmc 4.
Yeah, I'm halfway though DMC3 and I started playing this.
It's a lot of fun, but it's too easy to get a SSS combo, just demon dodge and use an Arbiter combo.
Story's fine, it does the job, the characterization is the bad part.
The game makes me laugh at times and it kind of gives me an Evil Dead vibe like it's not taking itself seriously.
Yeah, it's not... bad. It's average. And different.
I would not call it a DmC game, but it is a hack'n'slash worthy of the genre name.

that's DMC with capitals that is.
This this game really called Devil May Cry Devil May Cry? Who thought it would be a good idea to put the acronym and THEN the title?

Welcome to DmC: DmC.
I like the art design and how it plays, but the story and and obvious reboot do it no good. It would've worked a lot better if it was a new IP instead of reboot.
Imagine in 10 years time they're gonna do another reboot and they'll call it DmC DmC: Devil May Cry
Then 10 years after that they'll make DmC DmC DmC: Devil May Cry

And then they'll make a licensed game where you play as run-dmc.

Now imagine Run DMC was the director of the game.
Run DMC's DmC DmC Devil May Cry starring Run DMC
Havent played any other DMC and im playing DMC:DMC right now.
The story is awful, the characters blow, shit just apparently can happen with no explanation.
Like the girl throws a moltov cocktail at the boss at the start, and because of that, apparently you can now hurt him?
The gameplay is fun, but im using Mouse and Keyboard and not doing any real good combos yet I can seem to get S extremely easy, 3 missions in a row, all S and I blow.
The game is fun, but that doesnt mean its not shit, its pretty bad except from being fun.

"This game brings me enjoyment, but that doesn't mean it's not shit."
If you want to see some real shit, go play a game that is actual shit you won't even have fun with it.
So if world changes from limbo transfer into real world, how do they explain all the destruction? Terrorist attack bs, even for a fiction.

Why are you whiteknighting so hard on this game holy shit
You are like constantly defending this game trying to make it sound not as bad as what everyone says, even discarding the opinions of people who have played the previous games and have genuine arguments to explain why this one is bad in comparison

Lol because to say a game is shit but say it's fun in the same sentence doesn't make sense. I have played some real shit in my time, if anything it's average. To compare it to something in recent times as bad as Operation Raccoon City, Ninja Gaiden 3, Orion Dino Beatdown, those games are "shit", I can't even have fun with them at all. It's all subjective either way. I'm not trying to "whiteknight" this game specifically I'm just saying everyone that says it's shit hasn't played an actual shit game.
Lol because to say a game is shit but say it's fun in the same sentence doesn't make sense.
Yes it does. You can have fun with a lot of very stupid games that are certainly not worth 50€. Call of duty is fun to a certain extent, but every iteration of the license after CoD4 has been going terribly downhill and the game is really not worthy of its price tag anymore. But you can still get some fun out of it.
Some games are fun if you play them with a friend, but you have fun because of how awful it is, not because it's well designed or anything.
I have played some real shit in my time, if anything it's average.
This is something a lot of people say and to an extent it's true. The problem is, the game is attached to the DMC license which is way superior to this game, and the fact it's trying so hard to stick to a good license while lacking every single thing that made the previous titles good makes it earn easily its title of shitty game, because of the context surrounding it. If it was its own IP or even a sequel to, say, Heavenly sword (because this game plays exactly like a Heavenly Sword sequel would), it would just be considered a rather average beat them all. But the fact it's trying so hard to be part of DMC just makes it bad.
To compare it to something in recent times as bad as Operation Raccoon City, Ninja Gaiden 3, Orion Dino Beatdown, those games are "shit", I can't even have fun with them at all. Because there are worse games out there doesn't mean any game above them are instantly good. There are things like E.T the game or Big Rigs: Over the road racing out there, yet we still consider games like Operation Raccoon City, Ninja Gaiden 3 and RE6 to be absolute crap anyway.

No it actually makes sense.
Fucking around in a game like Street Sweeper simulator is fun, but its a shit game and a shit simulator.
DMC is sort of fun, but its a fucking awful game.
I have played actual shit games, you act like 90% of the nes/snes/n64 library wasnt complete garbage.
Or that Brink wasnt a thing.
Pretty sure everyone here has played a shit game, and pretty sure most people talking about the game have played the game.
Its garbage dude.
this game is average as a dmc game but an excellent hack n slash game so i dont see why everyone is bashing on it

I can see where diehard fans are coming from, and I don't think I would have paid $60 for it. To some extent saying it's good without the license is true as well but it's meant to be a reboot of the series it was going to change, I'm sure if it continues the sequel will see changes based on the current feedback. I just feel like some people are complaining for the sake of complaining though. I don't normally agree with reviews, but I felt like Angry Joe hit the nail on the head for this game.
this game is average as a dmc game but an excellent hack n slash game so i dont see why everyone is bashing on it
It's too easy, filled with glitches and exploits, the story is awful, the characters are hateful and childish, the gameplay mechanics are either broken, unbalanced or both, the platforming is dull, the voice acting is abysmal.
The only thing sort of helping the game is the good art direction. The rest is just shit considering you can get insanely better games in the same category.

Can you recommend some good Hack and Slash? I'm new to the genre I used to think they were boring.

The fact it's a reboot doesn't mean shit. Whatever happens the license may as well be fucked from now one, for many reasons :
- Ninja theory is developing it now. They are not good at balancing gameplay and really awful at writing. Their art direction is good but it's not enough to save the rest.
- Capcom is a horrible company that keeps making shitty mistakes and they will make more with the franchise
- If the game succeeds commercially, then Capcom will tell Ninja Theory to make more of the same crap
- If the game fails, Capcom will dig a big nice hole for the franchise next to Megaman and bury it deep underground never to be heard from again.
I don't want to say, but Ninja Theory has NEVER managed to make a single game worthy of a sequel. Heavenly Sword never got a sequel (apart from this one which gameplay wise is closer to heavenly sword than actual DMC) and Enslaved was supposed to get one, but the poor commercial success killed the franchise early on, which is understandable because even though the game was based on an interesting concept, it really lacked in a lot of ways and ended up being average.
You have to consider than these are games that are trying to compete with absolute colossi of the genre. If you are not going to put up a solid, above average title that has true strengths, then it's just going to sink because people will always prefer to play the all around better alternatives. Try to compare DmC with :
- Any of the previous DMC games (especially 3 and 4)
- Bayonetta
- God of war (for the direction part, GoW is a really simple game but it's fucking impressive)
- Ninja Gaiden (apart from 3)
It really doesn't surpass any of those titles in any way. The same thing happened when Dante's Inferno came out : it had to fight God Of War 3 on its own field and it lost massively, killing any chances of a sequel and sinking the game into the abysses of forgotten titles.

And you are not anyone's spokesman, so don't say "no one cares" like you actually know what people are thinking right now. If you didn't care then you would not be on this thread let alone be responding to posts you deem uninteresting.

Is it true that they are planning to do the same with the next resident evil game, reboot it? or is that what 6 is? If so then good tbh, I'd rather lay the games to rest then the games to go down the shitter although I hear revelations is good
i enjoy swtor, but i understand it is a badly designed bad business practice game

Yeah but I draw a line between bad and shit. Bad design decisions are what make an average game average. Totally shit decisions are what make shitty games shitty. A game can have redeeming qualities and be considered "bad" but a game without any redeeming qualities is shit.
