Yeah but I draw a line between bad and shit. Bad design decisions are what make an average game average. Totally shit decisions are what make shitty games shitty. A game can have redeeming qualities and be considered "bad" but a game without any redeeming qualities is shit.
Shit is just another word for bad.
Is it true that they are planning to do the same with the next resident evil game, reboot it? or is that what 6 is? If so then good tbh, I'd rather lay the games to rest then the games to go down the shitter although I hear revelations is good
Capcom is really bad at reboots regardless so if they actually try to reboot the franchise it's very likely that they put it in the hands of a widely incompetent devteam (probably even ninja theory) and ask them to do an action game anyway.
They just entirely lack the ability to listen to their fanbase and consider them any better than sources of income. Hence why RE6 was an action game rather than the survival horror people were asking for, why megaman has entirely disappeared from the scene apart from a few appearances in MVC where he is a fat useless slob, and why DmC was rebooted into that shitstain of a game with the main character turned into the most hateable piece of shit this side of the galaxy.
You can enjoy things you know aren't very good you know.
For example I really enjoy watching the Resident Evil films, but I know the acting is bad, the story is nonsensical and the special effects aren't very good. In a similar vein, DmC: Devil may Cry: DM: DmC: Dmm: fuck you (tm) edition is fun to abuse the fuck out of infinite combos and glitches in, but has no real lasting appeal to it since the combat is so insanely easy, the story is really childish and almost like it was written by a 12 year old, and the dialogue, though sometimes funny, is usually really poorly written too.
It's not awful, but it's not very good either. It's just mediocre in some areas and bad in others.
I guess it also depends on personal preference, while you enjoy the infinite combos and glitches, i wouldn't as i would want to do combos that make me feel like a bad ass rather than doing the same moves over and over.
Also on a side note did you enjoy the latest resident evil? i don't really mind the older ones (they were bad but in a enjoyable way) but the latest one is one of the worst films I've seen in a long time.
played through this yesterday.
It's not a terrible but it's not a great game either. Combos are weak, lacking bosses with any challenge and 6 hours to finish on nephilim. Extremely average at best and the highlight of the game is probably the environments for me. The game had no charm and nothing to make it stand out above other games in this genre. It felt weak compared to Bayonetta and God of War 3 for two examples as those games do things much better than this in both combat, fun and a nice balance of challenge.
The new Dante and his 'against the system' as some people call it attitude doesn't even bother me it could have been the original Dante and this still would be an average game in my eyes because the thing that makes this type of game good (combat) is not good at all.
I actually encountered zero bugs/glitches in my playthrough which I thought was either amazing or people just over exaggerate.
Try to compare DmC with :
- Any of the previous DMC games (especially 3 and 4)
- Bayonetta
- God of war (for the direction part, GoW is a really simple game but it's fucking impressive)
- Ninja Gaiden (apart from 3)
All these have extremely good pacing too which DmC lacks.
Facial animation on dante is so bad, his face like folds in when smurking
The facial animation is like opposite L.A. Noire, it's so bad.
The fact it's a reboot doesn't mean shit. Whatever happens the license may as well be fucked from now one, for many reasons :
- Ninja theory is developing it now. They are not good at balancing gameplay and really awful at writing. Their art direction is good but it's not enough to save the rest.
- Capcom is a horrible company that keeps making shitty mistakes and they will make more with the franchise
- If the game succeeds commercially, then Capcom will tell Ninja Theory to make more of the same crap
- If the game fails, Capcom will dig a big nice hole for the franchise next to Megaman and bury it deep underground never to be heard from again.
I don't want to say, but Ninja Theory has NEVER managed to make a single game worthy of a sequel. Heavenly Sword never got a sequel (apart from this one which gameplay wise is closer to heavenly sword than actual DMC) and Enslaved was supposed to get one, but the poor commercial success killed the franchise early on, which is understandable because even though the game was based on an interesting concept, it really lacked in a lot of ways and ended up being average.
You have to consider than these are games that are trying to compete with absolute colossi of the genre. If you are not going to put up a solid, above average title that has true strengths, then it's just going to sink because people will always prefer to play the all around better alternatives. Try to compare DmC with :
- Any of the previous DMC games (especially 3 and 4)
- Bayonetta
- God of war (for the direction part, GoW is a really simple game but it's fucking impressive)
- Ninja Gaiden (apart from 3)
It really doesn't surpass any of those titles in any way. The same thing happened when Dante's Inferno came out : it had to fight God Of War 3 on its own field and it lost massively, killing any chances of a sequel and sinking the game into the abysses of forgotten titles.
[editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
I know enough about DMC to know this reboot is a piece of badly designed shit that is not worth 50 bucks.
And you are not anyone's spokesman, so don't say "no one cares" like you actually know what people are thinking right now. If you didn't care then you would not be on this thread let alone be responding to posts you deem uninteresting.
lmao why would you play a devil may cry game for the story
lmao why would you post before reading
whatever the gameplay might be this game sure does look very pretty

You ever play DMC4? The story was damn amazing.
whatever the gameplay might be this game sure does look very pretty
That's the one thing I'll give Ninja Theory, the aesthetic and themes of the Limbo area is extremely cool. And very varied considering. It's a shame the story and gameplay have put me off buying it, the demo just didn't provide enough of a challenge compared to what I was expecting, and the story just seems pretty average.
I am getting SSS and im so fucking terrible.
Why is this possible, all you need to do is just overdrive and lunge+trillion stabs.
The one and I mean one thing putting me off this is when I heard the end of the trailer
DAUUNNtay
Why can't it be pronounced dan-tay
You ever play DMC4? The story was damn amazing.
I must be missing a crucial piece of story so far. I'm like 8 or 9 missions in and so far the story has literally been: Hey you're this random guy Nero, go kill demons, fight some bosses, oh wait for some reason you reconstructed the Yamato, even though you can't be Vergil's son because he'd have to have been 9 years old as a father but wait go chase Dante and kill some demons. Oh wait the Order wants you dead, go kill more demons and fight the order and chase Dante some more.
I cant remember much of the story, but isn't Vergil and Dante half demon? couldn't they just age differently, which would then explain why Nero could be Vergil's son.
