WARNING! If you love MGS games like me that's cool but if you're expecting this to be a full length game it really isn't.
and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the first reported case of time travel
I hope they update the companion app to support the PC version, it sounds rad.
They won't because of the development schedule
Thank you Kojima. Now get the whole Metal Gear Collection on PC before part 5 arrives. Thanks.
But if MGS4 gets ported a lot of the playstation jokes will be lost in translation. [editline]19th December 2014[/editline]
and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the first reported case of time travel
... you are aware the game's been out on console for like four months already right
... you are aware the game's been out on console for like four months already right
Nine months, it was released in March.
For the $14 (Canadian) I definitely think it's worth the price. Especially if you have something like Steam family sharing like I do, so basically my brothers get to play it too. Also it's amazing how much of a difference control makes, first time I played this on the PS3 I got a C rank. Going through it again on PC since I was able to aim I got an A rank on my first try. This is definitely the best version of the game.
But if MGS4 gets ported a lot of the playstation jokes will be lost in translation.
Unfortunately, but then the same would happen if they ever port the collections to PS4 (which I doubt they will MGS4-wise, since that would require an extensive reworking of the game TLoU-style for different hardware).

[editline]19th December 2014[/editline] ... you are aware the game's been out on console for like four months already right
I made a joke about it because it's a well known fact. Ground Zeroes was one of top controversies this year. [sp]he went to the future to warn us of the past guys cmon it was a little bit funny[/sp]
Big Boss will now literally sound older than like, 80 year old Snake in MGS4
I don't understand why everyone is going apeshit over how good the port actually is. It is well optimized but it is overall an below average port. (from the given functionalities) Lots of settings like Anti Alias, Bloom or Depth of Field are all bundled under ONE setting option that goes from "low" to "extra high" I cannot active just the Bloom and the Anti Alias, since the Anti Alias is getting activated on High and so does the DoF... what if I don't even like DoF? Some keys used in the game are NOT in the key binding and cannot be changed at all. Why is there a way to manouver around in the weapon selection with the mouse wheel but NOT during interrogations??? I cannot change the speed of looking around and the zoom independently in mouse control, however, it does work when I'm using a controler. At higher mouse speeds, it becomes impossible to snipe since the mouse just skips 200 pixels with every nm I move my mouse around. It can be fixed by turning down the mouse speed down and your DPI up, however, then only sniping will feel natural and just looking around usually is way way WAY too slow. My mouse cursor always keeps appearing after every cutscene, in the menu where the mouse cursor is not even used, I have the typical "windows loading" cursor. I had a lot of fun with it, I played it for 8 hours and I sure will play it some more, but why does all the hype take people away the ability too look at things from an objective standpoint? I just don't get it, it's nothing that special aside from being well optimized but that doesn't make a good overall port, it's just a lazy but well optimized port.
I'm guessing it's due to contrast to other recent ports, and also MGS was until now seen as a PS3 exclusive, which kind of sets bad expectations for a PC version - though I know there were previous MGS games on the PC. And purely performance wise, I think it does a really, really good job, and in the end that's what matter the most. The issues you're taking about are true, but it's mostly fairly trivial stuff that you can justify with the dev being fairly inexperienced with those little design differences between PC and Console games, and I'm guessing they can and might get fixed with patches.
So, is it worth it for the price?
First metal gear I've played and I'm not complaining.
It's pretty annoying how my mouse cursor doesn't disappear at any point in the game, despite it being completely useless even in menus.

I spent ages trying to work out how to turn off my light and eventually found that despite the fact that there are separate bindings for toggle lights and toggle lights in vehicle, it seems to use the toggle lights in vehicle key for the light on foot.

They really do need to fix this mouse sensitivity shit though. [editline]20th December 2014[/editline]
I found there's some really weird issues with the key bindings. The UI in general needs a lot of cleaning up.
It's a prologue epiosode. Your mileage may vary - there are several side-ops and multiple playstyles to go through, but the main mission is a couple of hours long.
I actually finished the main mission in 58 minutes, with multiple fuckups and alerts, so it's way shorter than that.
Hmm... bought and downloaded it but it won't even launch for me. No error or anything, just launching the game does absolutely nothing.

Worked. Cheers.
Have you tried double clicking? It helped me.
Only makes it go away for about 30 seconds.
How do you threaten, so the enemy puts his hands up?
sneak behind dude with gun aimed at his back
How do I play the DLC's.
How do I play the DLC's.
If by DLC you mean Special Ops, then you need to collect all the XOF patches in the main mission in order to unlock Jamais Vu and Deja Vu.
Sorry, but is anyone else having control issues with the game? I'm using and XBOX controller and instead of A and B being select and deselect its B and X. Additionally, my view gets tilted up to the sky whenever I enter the game. My keyboard apparently works fine, but it feels kinda gross to play it on keyboard.
I remember that the Metal Gear controller controls were always a little backwards on consoles, it probably has something to do with that
that cant be the case, as it advertises A as the select button in some menus, not B. That also wouldn't explain why my view gets pointed towards the sky when I enter game-play.
I remember that the Metal Gear controller controls were always a little backwards on consoles, it probably has something to do with that
You're probably thinking about how on PS, X was always "Cancel" and O "Confirm" whereas pretty much every other PS title was the other way around.

Your controller input isn't recognized properly, it's not supposed to be that way. I haven't tried x360ce on Ground Zeroes, but it has helped a lot of times before. You just have to remember that it takes time to figure the settings out (e.g. setting hook support to all in the program itself and then adding hookcom=1 to the config).
