Political Correctness. In Video Games. Let that sink in for a moment.
This is such a pointless discussion I can't even fathom how anybody could care about something like this. Do people really have nothing better to do than complain about how their minority is being "opressed" in a video game? Wether it be race or sexuality or gender.
Games are art they can do whatever the fuck they want you don't go around asking why the Mona Lisa wasn't black or why the Eiffel Tower was built by privileged males. If they go for a sissy clichee gay character like Mass Effect they can do that and not give a damn about what other people think about it and if the another studio wants to introduce a gay character which is extremely flamboyant and shoves it in your face every fucking second they can do just that.
It all comes down to what crowd you want to appeal to. I want strong characters that support the story of the game overall and not shoehorned characters that are just there because it's the new cool thing to do.
What is the Video Game Industry coming to, where did all the nerds go and why are there so many whiny bitches talking about stuff they have no fucking idea about?
The nerds had to hire people to do jobs that they couldn't do. And this people began to figure that they push their bullshit. In the end it's good that these companies are ruled by good executives that look at the sales projections and say "hm, that social agenta thing isn't selling well" and start cutting heads. Social bullshit people are not the main consumers, doesn't matter how much you catter to them, so you might as well stop.
you frame it as insecure little boys lashing out because of hurt feelings.
again with the defensiveness. people are naturally guided by certain defences and we all act predictably to an extent, even in social situations. that's just my view on the matter.
With the tumblr crowd being more and more present in gaming spreading their ";__; muh opression" shit everywhere I just grew very very sick of hearing about it especially when it's about Video Games. I'm all for equal rights and no opression of minorities but this has literally nothing to do with it. This is attention whoring to a specific group of people. People writing this read so much between the lines that whatever they decide to release is so fucking delusional it has nothing to with what they were originally talking about. Take Mass Effect. The goddamn universe is being destroyed by sentient machines but people would rather focus on that one part where gays are stereotyped. Let alone that these people don't give a shit about gameplay, atmosphere or you know the stuff that makes games good.
Let alone the fact that they are making it worse for people that are actually opressed. They aren't helping anybody they are doing the exact opposite which makes them hard to ignore.

How's that Introduction to Psychology course going?

I don't really see this and I play way too much video games.
The only time I hear about Tumblr is people whining about it on FP.

One of the casino owners in Freeside was really excited the player got him that robot!
Still, it's nothing compared to Beatrix, the ghoul cowgirl, who makes you glad the screen goes to black when you hire her for her services. (didn't earn a damn achievement for that!)

It was a loaded question. It's fallacy. It's intentionally offensive so that you either side with the person making, confront who makes the question(which you would call, defensive) or be indiferent.

You're right, these people don't consume video games, they just talk shit about it.

I'm talking about news sites, articles and blogs and it's very common there.

Yeah I still don't see it that much. Kotaku has one or two contributors and RPS has John Walker but the vast majority of news sites I see don't really deal with that stuff. As far as blogs? Yeah, sure, if you go out of your way you can find a lot of dumb blogs on the internet :v:

Except these people are doing nothing but whining about it and hoping it changes to suit them, not so that it suits anyone else. They're a loud and annoying minority because they're young, dumb and full of angst. They're also easily ignored.

Anita "Mirror's Edge is sexist because it's too hard" Sarkeesian is apparently working on ME2.

I cannot find a single official source for something like this outside of the fact that she apparently did some kind of presentation for DICE (maybe it was at D.I.C.E. Summit and not for DICE the company?).

And I'm not even talking about her when I talk about stupid people from Tumblr.
Why don't we just have Sexism, Homophobia and Racism in our stories to create what would be a realistic world filled with interesting characters with vices and virtues rather then a fucking political correct utopia filled with someone's agenda of equality.
As I'm reading this article I can tell it's by one of those losers who thinks that any form of sexuality is bad. I can also tell he's a retard because he compliments Mass Effect 3's implementation of gay character's which was basically "abloo abloo my Husband is dead, hey listen to how I'm gay!" if he was comparing that writing to Dragon Age 2 then it would be totally justified because that boiled down to: "Hey Anders good job on the healing!" "I love you hawk let's make out". You may think that's a joke but you can stumble into a relationship with Anders (A womanizer who was turned gay for no reason what-so-ever other then to appeal to the LGBT crowd or fill Hepler's fantasies) by just being nice to him once or twice.
Oh and they bring up The Last of Us DLC which is great because I would sure love to spend 15$ to watch some underage girls make out and and the implications of spending money on that is totally not weird at all.
Reading articles like this reminds me why I started drinking.
I think that some writers opt for a "utopia" route because they have the concern of offending people. They have good intentions, but it's unfortunately not appealing. It feels way more empowering to play as characters who are initially disadvantaged by the lack of finance, respect, and conformity. As a bonus, it enables people to see the perspective of minorities. It's almost always interesting to start from the bottom instead of the top.
Gone Home wasn't well-received by the gaming populace was because it didn't "show" those difficulties through an interactive medium, it only told you what the characters suffered from. I greatly appreciated the three dimensional aspect of the characters, but increased interactivity can present a story coherently.
