It's retarded as fuck that ISPs still have capped connections, I managed to get one of these newer connections and I have a 60gb cap on, it's like giving someone a really fast sports car and saying you'll pay for fuel and insurance but it's limited to 60mph.
I get 10 mbits here in florida, I coul upgrade, but is too expensive. The internet drops like once a day. In new hampshire I get 3mbits, but I cannot upgrade. Internet must be advanced.
I head that BE is pretty good if you can get it.
They're great, but they're still only using the current BT lines, so the same problem applies, I'm paying for 8Mb and only getting around 3-4Mb.
Luckily BT have just installed fibre optics in my area so now switching over. Be are looking to start offering fibre, but it'll probably be some time before that's available.
im supposedly meant to have virgin 50mb but i get like 3mb if im lucky and it goes down all the time
virgin suck ass get bt infinity instead
That's fifty MEGA-BITS not MEGA-BYTES.
There's a GINORMOUS difference between them.

Lucky fuck, I don't even get over half that.
However we're paying for a 8mbit package and we get just over half that.
Our upload however is bloody pathetic for the package, they keep saying we'll get 2mbit but nope, not even 1mbit.

ISPs need to stop with this "up to" bullshit and just tell us what we will get for the packages in the area.

You need to stop looking for ISPs which are well known. It's usually the smaller ones that have a lower contention ratio. At my house we get around 15Mbps DL, that's not even on cable. Generally stay away from TalkTalk, BT, SKY etc. The ISP I'm with now requires you to sign up for all utilities, such as electricity and gas, but it's all so cheap and the connection speed is great.

And the pathetic part is that ISP's pay about £3-£4 for 1TB of bandwidth.
I'm paying my ISP £40 a month to use 150GB.
Notice how badly they are ripping us off?

I would if I had the say on things, but as its my parents they just go "oh we can get tv, phone and internet on this".
And so the cycle begins.
It would be nice if we got any where near the speeds we are promised by the ISPs.
saying 'up to' isn't a promise

Try 10% of that price, at least nowadays. Maybe not in the UK but in places like china or the states I presume it's much lower due to the amount of people they're actually serving.
