But the subtlety of the story is what made Dark Souls so much more appealing to me, damn it. I'm not fond of this approach at all.
I think they mean better explained combat and stats. Starting out Dark Souls I had no idea what did what.
They said the same thing with demon souls and it meant a less shit ui and less clunky gameplay. Everyone interprets this as "we want the call of dooty audience".
Hopefully the story and gameplay will remain more or less the same.
Hidden subplots and confusing motives.
As if the people in the story have been doing more-or-less the same thing for a long time, and don't bother explaining it.
Like they were in Dark Souls.
Well, the subplots and characters were really interesting. They seemed strange and confusing first but after a while their story and motivation unfolds, which made it even more interesting to me. The mysterious atmosphere made me replay the game a lot more. Some things are really clear and other tidbits a bit obscure.
I am not sure if your comment is positive or negative.
If they mean this just in regards to the story I think it'll be a good change
Dark Souls "figure it out yourself" way of storytelling is cool in its own way, but it left me feeling confused or directionless for most of the game

I could totally agree with that, no doubt. I'm just trying to brace myself just in case the worst does happen and they fuck with how the story is told.

I a lot of people would disagree with you. We have enough games that spill out the story in your face.
God why is nobody ever happy just appealing to their niche.
Let's just hope they don't cock it up.

There are hints that this COULD be a prequel, so Solaire could pop up.
and there could be other Sunbros out there too.
Good, Dark Souls' RPG system was too complex for it's own good and required you to look up a wiki or FAQ guide in order for the game to not kick your fucking ass. I rather prefer it to be more based around your gameplay skills rather than your knowledge.

I don't mean they need to hold your hand, but maybe make it more like Demon's Souls where things are more clearly explained from the beginning and you can find a lot more detail as you progress.

Well that would not hurt anyone I guess, I was quite confused when I started the game.
I seriously hope the level design isn't made more straitforward. Exploring levels is my favorite part. Take the explore out and you just have an action game with more weighted combat.

For some reason him being alive in a prequel completely escaped my mind. I'll actually be disappointed if it is a prequel and they don't include him now. :v:

Highly disagree. The gameplay was actually very simple. It's just that most people don't understand that they need to keep their shield raised and they shouldn't start swinging blindly at enemies.
I learned the hard way in Demon's Souls and I'm satisfied with how it came out.

Only if you fail to act.

I had to look up some info as well because I knew I was at the crossroads of fucking up my character development.. (Read: resistance, etc.)
All they need are a few basic/advanced tooltips for stats & gear and ba bing.
Who would have guessed that "S" was better than "A" in the bonus stat rating?
Who would have guessed resistance is useless?
Who would have guessed that the pendant starting gift unlocked [sp]absolutely nothing at all[/sp].
Dark Souls has given me an excellent experience that would have been flawless if only one NPC shouted out "avoid the graveyard for the life of you"

I agree that Dark Souls doesn't really explain that much, but you're not really giving the right examples. S ranks are common in a lot of games as the 'best rank'. You can see the effect of any stat the moment you raise your level (so seeing how resistance only had negligible effect should be a clear indicator). And the starting pendant was just to troll the players.
Personally I enjoy googling certain aspects of the game, it made me get more involved and it was more rewarding. Reading about it and discussing the effects of certain things.
I doubt they will dumb down the game. Why would they've made their games super hard to begin with then?
I just love how both in Demon's and Dark Souls you end up in a boss fight during the tutorial. :v:
In Demon's you just had to get your ass killed and the game would continue but in Dark Souls you actually have to beat a boss in the tutorial. It is brilliant.

[sp]Solaire doesn't go hollow, he just gets driven insane by the sunlight maggot.[/sp]

The entire point of the difficulty system is knowledge. If you take on a black night and don't know how to fight them they'll wreck you, once you know their moves they're easy as shit. Most of the challenge in Dark Souls comes from not knowing what's ahead and what to do.
I think that maybe a more in depth tutorial would be good, but the rest of the game as hard as usual. The tutorial has been extremely brief in both games.

The entire reason why Dark Souls is hard is due to the lack of knowledge. As negative as it sounds, Dark Souls, PvE, is the definition of a trial and error game. Once you understand the timings and movesets of all of the enemies, the difficulty has been almost entirely removed. Dark Souls is fun, but it's fun in the Nintendo Hard ideology.
