Still waiting on that FFX remake. [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] best ff game imo
i can totally prove that wrong, cus every thread in the news node gets filled with 'shit game /10' or w/e [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] unless it's made by valve or rockstar
I tend to find that people who see FF7 for the emofest it is, isn't going too hard on FFXIII at all since it's the only game besides x to only have one character that could be considered mildly emo and is still massively badass and reasonable. That and superior everything. Mostly the criticism from these "old timers" is that Square Enix needs to stop resting on their laurels and start making remakes (resting on their laurels big time lol). Which is the stupid shit only a momentously entitled idiot would say. So no. Not everyone hates FFXIII, just as not everyone hates X and XII. it's only the people who never recovered any quality of life after falling in love with VII. They're sad existences, but there you are...
sorry i wasn't specifically attacking ff13, i meant that people DO click on threads to say 'this game is bad' in response to jackald [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] personally i wasn't fond of it, but i disliked ff8 and 12 more

And quite frankly, I don't really get all the hate towards a character for being depressed or hesitating at times. If it fits within his story (I mean, Cloud took on the identity of his friend after that friend died in his arms, while forgetting his own past), why hate it? It's boring to always have a mentally solid protagonist. For me the FF series is sort of a guilty pleasure, I know it has its bad sides but that doesn't stop me from getting completely immersed into it.
Is XIII-2 any good? I finished XIII for the second time last night and I still absolutely love the ending, hopefully XIII-2 and 3 don't ruin it for me.

You're just a hypocrite if you use the points i just drew attention to, as a reason to hate XIII since it's exactly the same with VII. If you dislike XIII for other reasons, then you're just a misguided cunt since it's still a more solid game than the PSX era games were. [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline]
Is XIII-2 any good? I finished XIII for the second time last night and I still absolutely love the ending, hopefully XIII-2 and 3 don't ruin it for me.
XIII-2 has its moments. I can't really tell if it's because "desu". But it sometimes seems way more juvenile (Serah berating a pack of monsters as if they're kids.) But it also goes and brings a villain that would leave Sephiroth fighting a solid battle to stay the best villain in the series. [sp]At first he seems totally two dimensional, but in the final 5 hours, he reveals his motivation and you're suddenly wondering wether you're the actual villain for a few seconds[/sp] That and he does something that hasn't happened in FF since 7... [sp] he outright murders one of the main characters[/sp] The game is pretty much riding on a ton of sidequests and many of then you'll have to do to beat the main story bosses. They all fluctuate between very emotional, funny and just pathetically japanese... The game is propably the most solid Final Fantasy spin-off ever and they could easily have transplanted the main story, removed the protagonists and called it FF15 with a bit of elaboration. It actually feels a bit like waste to have it in a sequel, but it's still very well used where it is. So yeah. If you get used to the whole time-dancing thing and if you can deal with the few silly moments and that they constantly repeat themselves more than they should because the writers didn't trust the audience to be able to follow the story, then i bet you'll love it. The MAIN story is fucking strong, Caius and Noel steal the show. But then again. I'm also the one freak fan who actually likes snow. Mostly because i seem to be the only person in the world who can see that all his "badass" is tacked on to hid his vulnerabilities. My recommendation is to play it, but be ready to tackle side quests. Something i've never had to do in Final Fantasy. This aspect really reminded me that FF sorely needs a quest log/Journal. [editline]2nd September 2012[/editline] In short. FFXIII-2 brings some goddamn realistic maturity to the series but it also brings cartoony silliness to it. God i hope they drop the latter.
Words
You definitely nailed it. FF XIII-2 was a good game in terms of gameplay and exploration. The story was a downright mess. I found it funny how Noel and Caius, with all the worlds you travel through, they fit the least in the world they actually came from. I do hope they bring more maturity to the series presentation. I want to see something like FF VII's Midgar again. Or that scene in Shinra headquarters where you're following a trail of blood while fighting all sorts of abominations along the way. That scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I was looking forward to Versus XIII for that reason but who knows whatever happened to that game.
I really wish these fucks would sort themselves out, I miss the old games so much. They just spew out shit and shitty sequels to shitty games nowadays when it comes to final fantasy.
It may be cool to see Sazh in it again, we always need a black guy companion

Anyway, I pray Sazh is in FF13-3.
They need to bring back the open area's and the villages, this game is going to be shit.

I've played a portion of VII because that seems to be what people freak out over. I have to say that as I expected I loved the hell out of the setting, at least at the beginning. Midgar is almost cyberpunk in its dystopian, high-tech nature, and is still visually interesting even if the graphics are outdated now. It was nice when things opened up, but nothing else in the game really got me hooked as much as that place did and since it seemed that I would never be going back and the plot had turned into "Chase Sepheroth wherever" I got bored before I finished disc 1. The golden saucer was kinda' cool though. Emo-Ness and similar issues never really bothered me because I find it impossible to be annoyed by embarrassing dialogue so long as it's not voiced for some reason so eh.

Le's all get RMK's of all deh oldies lolololo........ Go away.
I didn't even finish XIII because of the corridor simulator.
all that milk man
I didn't even finish XIII because of the corridor simulator.
Well that was a shallow reason if any ever was.
I'm still hoping that they'll make a game like Final Fantasy 6 again, with a great story, and a great villian. I'm really put off by all the titles going all dark and angsty. 6 had a lot of good humor along with the drama. Not to say Final Fantasy 13 was a bad game, it wasn't, it was pretty good story wise and all, but characters like Hope are just a bore, and uninteresting. It needs more characters like Sazh.
I didn't finish XIII because of how hard it was because I ran past enemies and didn't grind. Starting a new run right now though.
I didn't finish XIII because of how hard it was because I ran past enemies and didn't grind. Starting a new run right now though.
Know that feeling. but when you get to the Archylte steppe, you get control of your party AND more liberal chance to level with a ton of bland sidequests. But it's still the most solid pacing of story in any FF. In FFX, i was in love with the game up until those open plains, about 2/3rds of the way. Then i found out i had to grind as fuck to pass Gagazet each step onwards from there had another steep level-barrier that i was too far below. But eventually, i didn't shit a give and just ran for Braska's final aeon and spent two months tactically mastering it with a horribly underleveled party and when i finally got the final cutscenes... I'd lost the thread. So i'm pretty happy with the more tight pacing in FFXIII. Keeps the story going.
