hell yes. i absolutely love heavy rain and indigo prophecy. this is amazing news
This video has so much uncanny valley.
I hope this is the topic for a future game of theirs and not just a tech demo, if they get some decent writers it could be something great. I kinda want a "Ghost in the shell" or "I, Robot" type story in a game.
I can't fathom that that's running in real time. I mean jeez.
I'm still hope to see the Omikron sequel.
Why hello there, uncanny valley.
actually i think this does a really good job at not hitting the uncanny valley. it looks fantastic.

I agree. Although, to be fair, the eyes could have moved a bit more. In real life, people's eyes dart around a surprising amount even when they're looking straight at something.
Damn I really wish that was their next project, that small video alone leaves me wanting a whole 8 hour experience.
Press X to 'Kara'
The graphics aren't revolutionary, but the animations are. The level of detail on the facial muscles is boggling, the tiny shaking of strained muscles and micromovements of the eyes, something I rarely see in games. Very impressive.
Give him a chance, Fahrenheit was great and Nomad Soul wasn't that bad either.
Heavy Rain... well...
Wait, are you saying Heavy Rain wasnt great?
Heavy rain is the best game i have ever played, no other game has given me emotions like that.
In other news, Kara will be having so much 34.
That was amazing.
I hope they decide to make this a game. I want to see more boobage ;)
The eye animations are amazing, all the muscles moving around it etc.
Cant wait to see the whole lot in game, shame they aren't taking this concept's story further though.
I'm already sold on their next game. Have been since I finished Heavy Rain, but this just sells it 100% for me.
I have to say that was extremely well done.
Also, for those calling out Uncanny valley, that's becoming less and less of an issue now.
It only applied during the early days of animation technology because it was VERY VERY VERY obvious. Now that line is getting blurred.
You can still see it. The uncanny valey is the lack of imperfections. If it's faulty. If it's obviously CGI then then uncanny valley problem isn't that strong.

We all knew it was CGI from the start.
The subject itself is also uncanny as well.
So people will know its fake from the beginning, you want to test if someone thinks its real or not, ask your parents to watch.
We're trained to point out these faults.

every single post you have ever made has been dumb
it's stylized and definitely not photorealism, but it's realistic enough to be really identifiable as a character and stylized enough to not hit the uncanny valley. It's a very artistically well done human, too.
basically

Pretty much this.
Impressive but didn't quite overcome the uncanny valley to me. The mouth animations in particular seemed very unnatural at times. The eye motion pattern wasn't that convincing either. To the above; it doesn't matter whether we knew in advance if it was real or not, Uncanny valley is not about uncertainty. If it was intentionally stylized it was badly done; the body proportions and the art details were clearly aimed at being ultra-realistic but the animations didn't match up.
It's pretty impressive for what it is, though.

Its about what we perceive and how knowlede/experienced we are pertaining to quality graphics in videogames.
You ask your parents what they think and they'll most likely say that's really awesome/realistic, unless they go off about back in my day :v:
The point is that the only people who notice uncanny valley, are those who've been around CGI/Videogames enough to notice this shit.

That definitely isn't true. Everyone will recognize the uncanny valley at some point, just at different degrees of realism. Different people with different levels of experience will require a differing balance of perfection/imperfection to sense it.
Yes, I'm sure my parents wouldn't recognize this as uncanny, but they're not gonna play a game based off this tech either; I am!

Thank you David Cage for managing to make a tech demo creepy as all hell.
This guy seems like one of the few really smart game developers (like he actually understands story and atmosphere) but I'm still waiting for him to do something really impressive.
Have you ever seen Indigo prophecy?
He is not a good game developer nor a good story teller.
The implication is that that robot is being shipped off to be raped or some shit, over and over again, and all she can do is sort of pretend like she doesn't mind.
Eugh.

lmao. heavy rain was riddled with plot holes, one of them being absolutely story-breaking.
