Sad that the modding community has all but abandoned this game. Pretty much every mod out there stopped at V 1.6.
I like _jeb and Dinnerbone, but they really need to step it up. Java isn't complex, and it's not hard to make blocky textures for objects. Their primary focus should be optimization, something any coder worth his salt can do. This game has the ability to run on a mid range tablet as is without trimming any fat, provided that the code were optimized effectively. I'd prefer a rewrite to a different language than java for modding reasons, but i guess the main advantage is that Java works with pretty much everything out of the box, no porting required( i think).
Vacations.
Notch walks out the door, bags perpetually packed. He looks back sadly at the Mojang office, knowing he won't, if ever, be back there again. He tips his fedora in respect and wanders into the sunset, looking for a new resort to vacation at. The remainder of the Mojang crew follow suit.
Is everyone really whining about the content in a snapshot update?
These come out once a week and are optional. Ofcourse they aren't gonna be super major.

uh
this one took a month since last update
and two and a half months since the last update that was anything substantial and not just bug fixes

I'd rather have bug fixes than major features being added, although some new shit wouldn't hurt to breathe a little more life into the game. Some more wildlife wouldn't hurt to add to the game. If that's too much work for the guys at Mojang, just spend some of those millions and pay the dev of Mo' Creatures to let them use his mod.

The bug fixes are usually for bugs they caused in the preceding update lol
I remember talking to a friend about the lack of updates, and it was brought up that with those millions, each update Mojang could contact a popular mod developer and attempt to add their work to the game, such as bibliocraft, however only one or two an update, to try and not overcomplicate things.
It's not the answer, but it's a much better system than only adding a small selection of things (albeit, new stone is a good addition).
For people saying that this update will have more things and that snapshots will add more soon, remember that when 1.5 came out, a majority of additions were in the first snapshot.
They also updated the teleporting/transitioning code so it's pretty seamless. Considering everything in minecraft now runs on a psuedo-server, I'd say that's fairly major, considering how shit and janky it was before.
the theory goes that if you place an infinite number of monkeys in front of an infinite number of computers eventually one of them will program a better update for Minecraft than Mojang could
(and probably faster than mojang too)

there are no mods for 1.7 because MCP hasn't been able to get a release for 1.7 yet. The 1.6 MCP came out around when the offical 1.7 update came out.
I've got something to confess.
I've never played minecraft before.

The only way to win is not to play
To be honest I feel like I got my $15 out of Minecraft before it ever left Alpha so I've never felt ripped off, only disappointed. It seems like they lost track of what the game could have been.

It seems they went from the enjoyable "survival" and the whole building aspect to more of an RPG game.

are you guys not educated on how mojang gets shit done
Also the only reason minecraft is still popular is because of the modding community. And whenever an update happens, every lets player creates a new series called "1.x Minecraft Survival Ep 1 Fucking Shit".
I think the major reason I, along with probably everyone in this thread, is so sick of minecraft is because we all burnt ourselves on it super hardcore since alpha and beta. I've already gotten my 15-20 dollars worth as I've played like, what, 300 hours worth of it? Now I just can't play it anymore because it's just not that interesting.
For me it's not a problem with the lack of content, it's just that the base game has gotten utterly and completely boring. No amount of furniture, better combat, more blocks, or horses could fix that for me.
But "PvP" in Minecraft is such a fucking joke. One of my friend's little brother was addicted to this "Hardcore PvP" server and actually bought a Visa giftcard for $20 to buy a stack of diamonds. Needless to say he was killed shortly after and lost everything.
My point is, "PvP" in Minecraft is shit. It's just whoever has diamond wins, or whoever clicks on the enemy fastest wins.
People have come up with some interesting gamemodes though. Race for the Wool is fun.
I remember being excited for the nether update and then being disappointed about just how pointless the whole update was.
There were only 3 actual new blocks, a reskinned stone, lightstone, and pumpkins all pretty pointless and/or boring.
The zombie pigmen and ghasts added nothing in terms of loot and almost nothing in terms of combat.
The fast travel was buggy, and also pointless in an infinite world.
The nether looked kinda cool, but that's all it was, the nether update was probably when I started to realize that the content updates were pretty much only going to add only pointless stuff from that point on.
lol!! DAE mod api? xD
It's a legitimate complaint. They announced that it was coming 'within the major update after next', what, like two years ago?
Here's an idea that was pitched on reddit a while back. IMO it's very feasible, and should have been implemented a while back. It would have done wonders for minecraft, way more than most of the updates in the last year.
You guys love to rag on this game and people defending it without actually addressing the arguments. They release updates fairly often, and are always working on bug fixes and mechanics changes. Re-read the changelog, without skipping the backstage parts.
Reorganizing code can be a monstrous thing if you (which they did) code it poorly originally. A small team has been totally scrapping the code for new work. For example, the MCP (a sort of API for mods made by the modding community), has been rendered totally incompatible with the game. These glorified modders you praise are putting in just as much work as the devs in this regard.
You are not programmers, or at least not good ones, to so underestimate the work it takes to make a game, even one so seemingly simple; much less do you understand the development process.
You're unhappy with the game, and Notch is not a good programmer. Why do you have to be such dicks to the people working hard to fix the game for future improvements? Despite all of the work going on that you ignore (because it isn't the super duper update you wanted), you shit on them for the small content they add just to appease the community while the bulk of the work remains unseen.
There have been legitimately good updates, for they do try. Take for the strongest example, a total revamping of the terrain generator. The game world looks better than I've ever seen it (sans the fantastical environments of the old beta, but those limited the possibilities at the same time). Transitions are smoother, the lands more varied.
Right now they, as mentioned in this thread but ignored, are working on improving rendering (everyone complains about the poor fps, where modders have doubled it), and mechanics such as enchanting items. They've added content constantly to aid the community in fantasy map creations (for they are quite popular).
What they've not done is added AAA content, or been 50 modders at once (two), and they've not allocated their time into huge content updates (opting for allowing the game to be better in the future now that Notch is out of the way). And that isn't good enough for you guys.
I don't give a fuck how shitty his code-base is, or what these people do in their free time, or how hard they work.
We are all end-users, we throw money and them and not much comes out, its not weird we are disappointed.
People still play vanilla Minecraft? The one time I touch the thing is with FTB or Tekkit etc that makes the game actually fun.
The last time I played Minecraft was with some kind of faction PVP mod, and every board on 4chan got their own island and faction. Hundreds of people were playing it and it was a lot of fun.
