I wonder if I can trade any of my TF2 hats for Dota2 hats.
I guess it's a matter of perspective more than anything else, but I'd expect a remake of a mod that is how many years old now to be pretty fucking major if it was something I would pay money for.
It's as major as HON is, isn't that enough? Also we don't know for sure if it will actually cost money. Given that both HON and LOL are F2P I think it would be odd of F2P-Hat-Simulator-Makers Valve to release an otherwise freely accessible (except for WC3 requirement for the original) game for money.
I'm not sure how that proves anything, and both dev teams of HoN and LoL had people who worked on the original DoTA, Ice wasn't the only dude working on it.
Because it has the core mindset of the game. Ice is, if I recall correctly, the last person that kept updating DOTA after the others stopped. [editline]16th August 2011[/editline]
DotA 2 Gamescom Trailer is indeed epic...I wonder how the gameplay will be.. still waiting :/
You sound like a bot posting like that. The video is in the OP, no need to quote it.
Did that guy morph into a fucking dragon?
I'm not sure how that proves anything, and both dev teams of HoN and LoL had people who worked on the original DoTA, Ice wasn't the only dude working on it.
I don't think the fact that Icefrot is working on Dota 2 is all that impressive anyway. The rules of Dota are well understood and anyone who cared to could make a Dota game like LoL or HoN. The people who think Dota 2 will be better because of Icefrog is like claiming that Tetris 2 would be better than any possible Tetris clone because the original Tetris dude is making it.

Get him to eat a bunch of Mcdonalds and he'll look like the guy in the trailer to the note!

While it's true that valve has taken the F2P route very recently, they've made some rather surprising choices before (not the least of which being the F2P shenanigans in the first place). It is likely that it will be F2P though, given the now completely free competition (besides dota itself due to WC3). Money or no money I'd like to think my point about modern remakes of really old things still stands.
Because it has the core mindset of the game. Ice is, if I recall correctly, the last person that kept updating DOTA after the others stopped.
If the only thing they do is move the gameplay to the source engine and add some new stuff to do aside from just playing the game I wouldn't say the core mindset would be mandatory or really necessary but I digress. While true, the fact that Ice stuck around the longest doesn't really discredit the others, and didn't ice get into some shit with them for something a while back? I forget.
also the Red guy with the axe looks soo much like Hellboy
It's funny because half of you are bashing a game that isn't even out yet, and that same half didn't even realize that DOTA existed before LoL. :v: edit: With that being said, I'm extremely hyped about this game. I have a feeling it's gonna be a lot more fast paced than LoL or SoTIS.
SoTIS.
Oh god please no SHADOW GEMINUSSSSS NOOOOOOONOOOONOOOOOO

But everyone else hyped it up to be DOTA just re-vamped with new interface, looks of heroes and shinier graphics. I completely agree that anything that is plainly just labeled as a sequel needs to improve and add new different things. But this isn't labeled as a sequel in that way, it never advertised itself as a new innovative DOTA game, but rather an improved one.
While true, the fact that Ice stuck around the longest doesn't really discredit the others, and didn't ice get into some shit with them for something a while back? I forget.
That was just some fake shit or whatever about leaked mails" about how much of a cunt Icefrog was to the rest of the team. But I think it was clearly labeled as fake or just washed away (and if it get's washed away it has to be fake, otherwise it would of been brought up again)
Oh god please no SHADOW GEMINUSSSSS NOOOOOOONOOOONOOOOOO
Why did you edit out this comment where you stated Icefrogs experience coming in very handy when they will (most likely since Valve loves free DLC) release new characters? Because that's exactly what I'm talking about.
Half of the shown weapons (and hats) would make decent TF2 promos.
It's CGI I'm going to laugh when they use Source.
Have you seen the leaked screenshots?
I don't really know. But everyone else hyped it up to be DOTA just re-vamped with new interface, looks of heroes and shinier graphics.
True enough.
I completely agree that anything that is plainly just labeled as a sequel needs to improve and add new different things. But this isn't labeled as a sequel in that way, it never advertised itself as a new innovative DOTA game, but rather an improved one.
Yeah, I suppose you are correct, it is being hyped up as more of a remake than a sequel, it's just having a name that sounds exactly like a sequel seems odd to me in this way.
That was just some fake shit or whatever about leaked mails" about how much of a cunt Icefrog was to the rest of the team.
Why did you edit out this comment where you stated Icefrogs experience coming in very handy when they will (most likely since Valve loves free DLC) release new characters? No but seriously what the fuck SotIS devs there's being a fed carry which is totally excusable, and then there's designing a hero that completely new players can 1v5 with.
After playing HoN and LoL for awhile, I'm not all that excited about this. Unless they really pull out some decent champions (And, if that was a guy turning into a dragon then I'll shut the hell up) I'll pass.

(by Robert) A: Significant changes would not necessarily make it a better game. There are countless features we are building around the game that will make the experience a much better one. The gameplay itself, though, has always evolved step by step, and it will continue with that methodology. We consider this a long term project, in the same way DotA has always been. We want to provide a quality experience and not just change for the sake of change. You’ll naturally see additions and improvements to the game as time passes, but it would be a natural progression aimed at improving the game for the players and not for other arbitrary reasons. Valve and I strongly believe that the player focused development process the game has gone through is what will allow us to continue making the best decisions with regards to where we spend our development time.

just a FYI, this is from the FAQ after the game was announced
While true, updating, rebalancing, and adding new content is a mainstay in all valve games and usually most multiplayer games in general, and certainly in all Action RTS's. And while big stuff can come through patches, most of the main gameplay gets put in on launch. Anyways, I have full confidence that dota 2 will be awesome, just felt like sharing my opinion on some minor aspects.
Just like IW did it. Game screenshots are leaked, scramble to release trailer to overshadow leak. Stay classy Valve.
Valve already said they are showing off DOTA2 at Gamescom and what starts in 8 or so hours, Gamescom! So you really think they tossed together a full blown CGI trailer only because a few screenshots leaked out?
Ill be looking forward to the game. But the trailer felt..Cheesy.
Someone will make rule 34 of those two dragons and post it in the dragon thread
Someone will make rule 34 of those two dragons and post it in the dragon thread
How about no?
That frost archer is a total ripoff of Ashe..
MAXIMUM DERP INITIATE. "Every generic archer character is a ripoff of Ashe" [editline]16th August 2011[/editline] Also, that guy's face at the end is scary.
I bet you Pixar could be replaced by Valve and no one would know
I bet you Pixar could be replaced by Valve and no one would know
Except 'Pixar' would probably start making fucking awesome movie tie-in games.
Looks like they will be using a totally different graphics style than I thought they would.
Valve's animation dudes should make a film like Marvel's Avengers-- including all of valves games n stuff. For prettiness. They do surpass Pixar, afterall

I think Valve always makes beautiful trailers. Wow, just wow
Alien Swarm wasn't an FPS
Alien Swarm wasn't made by Valve.
