• Notch refuses to help certify Minecraft for Windows 8
by refusing to help put Minecraft on the OS.
uh why does the author think Minecraft won't work on Windows 8? Like does he think that every time a new Windows version comes out, every single piece of software ever made ceases to work and must be patched?
Once you install classicshell windows 8 becomes a perfect OS, the appstore in w8 is designed for the tablet market and not many of the apps uploaded will be specifically designed for the home desktop
Has nothing to do with the app store.
Oh but it does, this article doesn't hold the whole story. They offered to help with the certification so he could publish minecraft in the win8 store.
I like how you guys call Notch a child when even Gabe Newell said "Windows 8 is a catastrophe", and you don't go around hating on Gabe.
Well okay, I wouldn't call GN a child, but he has a staked interest in W8 not gaining traction. As he'd prefer one of the few functional marketplaces on the windows platform to remain steam. As opposed to getting pretty stiff competition in small scale and indie game distribution from microsoft directly. Notch has similar reasons actually. He likes to keep updates within his control and update a lot. Updating the win 8 store might nto be as simple. It's the same reason he doesn't have a steam version of mincraft.
Wait. Minesweeper has achievements now? Shit man. I need Windows 8.
i hate notch because he made a popular game and hates windows 8 all hail gaben
But, you see, notch isn't saying he won't support win8, he's saying he won't bring minecraft to the win8 store. Big difference.
Okey, his quotes are still dumb and I think he's a fool for saying something like that.
Hm. Interesting. Personally, I'm of the opinion that this doesn't matter. Wouldn't Minecraft have to be re-written in .NET to be certified anyway?
Notch trying to stay relevant again by acting like a child at a big name company.
What a dumb piece of shit. Certifying an application for Windows 8 is like having drivers WHQL certified, it ensures that an application has a certain quality level and respects Windows application guidelines. Some of these are: - Apps must support a clean, reversible installation - Apps must install to the correct folders by default - Apps must support x64 versions of Windows - The app must launch in 5 seconds or less - Your app must obtain opt-in or equivalent consent to share personal information - Your app must not stop responding, end unexpectedly, or contain programming errors - Updates must not decrease your app’s functionality in a way that would be unexpected to a reasonable customer - Your app must not jeopardize or compromise the security or functionality of the Windows system There's nothing about supporting closed software anywhere in this story, but Notch just felt the need to release controversial thoughts on Twitter once again and not knowing any better, the press picks it up. HP also feels the need to completely ignore these guidelines (their drivers are actually refused by Microsoft quality testing) and continues releasing shitty printer drivers. Finally, there's the irony that Notch is fine with releasing his application on iOS and Xbox, which are as closed as a platform can possibly get.
Not really. Stuff like,"I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform." He followed up saying he'd "rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along," and hoping that it will keep some users from switching to Windows 8. Is pure idiotic. Why would he want Minecraft not to run on W8 because he doesn't like it? Why would he want W8 to fail massively because he doesn't like it? Only selfish fucks would say something like this, how can you let your personal opinion get in the way of stuff like this anyway. Why wouldn't he want as much people as possible to be able to play his game. But instead, he cries like a fool about how bad W8 is and no one should play on it/use it.
I said "understandable," this doesn't necessarily equate to "wholly acceptable." v:v:v Mobrockers2 covered everything else.
This is fucking embarrassing: Gabe goes out against Win 8, gets standing applause. Notch goes out against Win 8, "Notch is fucking retarded" It's like people are just regurgitating what the bandwagon tells them. Also before the Notch fanboy posts, I really don't give a fuck about if Notch is stupid or not I really don't, but this is getting stupid. You give no reason for saying he is an idiot, you just say it like it's some kind of fact. At least come up with some kind of argument, jeez.
I said "understandable," this doesn't necessarily equate to "wholly acceptable." v:v:v Mobrockers2 covered everything else.
Only the article got cleared up, the quotes are still there with Notch saying how he don't want people to use Windows 8.
This is fucking embarrassing: Gabe goes out against Win 8, gets standing applause. Notch goes out against Win 8, "Notch is fucking retarded" It's like people are just regurgitating what the bandwagon tells them.
Maybe because Gabe acts mature while Notch acts like a fool and think everything he says is godlike?

It's all in the delivery
I'm just looking forward to the following months after Windows 8 releases and everyone realizes there is nothing catastrophic about Windows 8 at all and people stop being such babies about Windows 8, hating it for no real reason other than "Waah, they made their own store and changed the start menu". I hate the way they made the start-menu a start-screen, but that doesn't ruin it, especially not with all the improvements all around the whole fucking thing, and the store? Wow, big deal, Microsoft wants to try and earn money on selling games as well, how does this hurt you again? It's not something that will be up in your face.

Notch does all this shit and just comes off as a big baby
Persson's refusal to help doesn't necessarily mean Minecraft will be unavailable on Windows 8 machines, mind you. It could run just fine, but it will do it without its creator's involvement.
lole when was the last time notch even touched minecraft, Jeb and the rest of Mojang have been doing all the work lately
Oh but it does, this article doesn't hold the whole story. They offered to help with the certification so he could publish minecraft in the win8 store.
Please show me where you found out that Microsoft wanted to get Minecraft certified just to put it in the store. As Overv said, it's just Notch being dramatic.
This is fucking embarrassing: Gabe goes out against Win 8, gets standing applause.
Well, Gabe had at least a decent argument. Notch is just arguing against something that makes sense.
My only issue with Windows 8 is that it's designed for tablets but being released for general PC use. So its interface is completely unsuitable for the majority of PC users. I like what they tried to do with it, but maybe they'll learn from this and make Windows 9 better.

Does someone really use the "apps" in windows 8? The first thing I did was to uninstall every single one of them. Excluding the weather app.

Just because the start menu isn't there doesn't mean it's "completely unsuitable." Honestly, how much do you even use the start menu? I use icons on my desktop/taskbar myself.

It's annoying and very difficult to find things that would normally take me just a couple of seconds. In metro you have to use keyboard shortcuts and open up 2 or 3 apps to get to where you want to go. It's not optimized for anything. It truly is catastrophic.
Am I the only one who thinks that the windows store is not there to replace desktop apps anyway? It's for apps that work across desktop use, tablets and phones, not an alternative way to sell your desktop only game.
Simply not true, using Windows 8 on a PC is more efficient than Windows 7.
Nope.

I have the RTM installed on my laptop, silly.
Nope.
Yup. It's one of the things they were aiming for when designing Windows 8, to be less resource intensive.

Yeah, you can't just type "network connections" to the search box and open up your network adapter settings, but that's like 2 or 3 extra clicks to get there without it. Win8 is cool and you really don't even need to use the metro interface that much. I only use it as a start menu for easy access to my commonly used programs, just like in Win7.

And your statement is simply false.
