The last time I checked the Windows 8 dev license was free (could have changed though). If anything the store makes it easier for you to make money, just like Google play and the Apple app store. Also it's only for metro apps, they don't even sell desktop apps.
You're assuming rather incorrectly that the current platform and policies will be static. They aren't, and won't.
I don't see why, all it being fullscreen does is make it do the same thing but faster.
But what if I'm watching a video, a smaller start menu wouldn't interrupt my viewing of the video (like with windows 7) [t]http://i.imgur.com/jjz5h.png[/t]
You're assuming rather incorrectly that the current platform and policies will be static. They aren't, and won't.
There's the paranoia again. Why do you have ANY reason to believe that they won't be?
So then you use the compact start menu, and problem solved.
Why is this not documented anywhere?
You're assuming rather incorrectly that the current platform and policies will be static. They aren't, and won't.
Yeah, they could suddenly make it so renewing your license costs 5000 bucks and they take 80% of your profits. Will they? No. The last thing Microsoft needs is less people making apps on their platform. Windows phone is already doing poorly because of the lack of apps, even though the actual OS is really nice. And yeah, of course your app has to pass some certifications. Why would they let people sell apps that don't even work. I'm sure Valve has loads of certifications the games have to pass to be on Steam too, are they evil and trying to make everything harder for developers? No, they are making it so the users have a better experience. Like l337k1ll4 said, you're just paranoid about what COULD happen.
wow the amount of Knee jerking in this thread is hysterical on both sides. Yes, notch should have been a little more professional about this but W8 supporters, do you ever have the realization that People hate Windows 8 on a very base level and nothing you say, nor no matter how many alternatives to the Start menu you find to wave around will ever change that? I like Windows 7 and no I don't want my PC to be an Xbox, so I won't be buying windows 8.
Why is this not documented anywhere?
It's not exactly complicated, you right click in the corner, it's pretty easy to find actually, a simple Google search will show you.
Windows 8 + Start 8= Super fast windows 7. It takes 28 seconds to boot up windows 7 for me. It takes 9 seconds to boot up windows 8.
While faster boot is good, I am not sure why it's so hyped. I restart my computer once a week or more, sleep mode is where it's at.
While faster boot is good, I am not sure why it's so hyped. I restart my computer once a week or less, sleep mode is where it's at.
Depends on the person. My PC is too bright for me to sleep when it's on, so I have to turn it off every night, because Sleep doesn't turn off the LEDs, hell, even turning it off doesn't turn off the LEDs on my headset, so I have to cover that shit up with a shirt or something.
Depends on the person. My PC is too bright for me to sleep when it's on, so I have to turn it off every night, because Sleep doesn't turn off the LEDs.
I find them comforting :neckbeard:
While faster boot is good, I am not sure why it's so hyped. I restart my computer once a week or more, sleep mode is where it's at.
Well boot time isn't the only thing that's faster. Everything is pretty much faster for me.
Well boot time isn't the only thing that's faster. Everything is pretty much faster for me.
Yeah the OS itself runs significantly faster as well.
I don't want my PC to be an Xbox, so I won't be buying windows 8.
It's stuff like this that makes this bandwagon so ridiculous, you've clearly never even tried Win 8 or seen anyone actually use it.

Some people are just completely unwilling to embrace any changes to something familiar and will ignore or deny the existence of any advantages provided by the new thing in a rabid defense of status-quo while circle-jerking about how everything was better in the past. These people are reactionary un-satisfiable idiots who should just stay out of the discussion completely.
Jesus Christ Blackbird fuck off with your disagree ratings, you can't dismiss the fact that Windows 8 is much faster than Windows 7 and that's one of hell of an accomplishment.
Good. I hope all of his fanbase switches to win8
Good. I hope all of his fanbase switches to win8
They will.
Facepunch your so wierd. First its like "Good for notch Win8 sucks" then its like "Notch your a big baby" then "Win8 isnt that bad". Make up your mind!
Facepunch your so wierd. First its like "Good for notch Win8 sucks" then its like "Notch your a big baby" then "Win8 isnt that bad". Make up your mind!
Bandwagon mentality.
Facepunch your so wierd. First its like "Good for notch Win8 sucks" then its like "Notch your a big baby" then "Win8 isnt that bad". Make up your mind!
Because all of Facepunch is one being.
It's stuff like this that makes this bandwagon so ridiculous, you've clearly never even tried Win 8 or seen anyone actually use it.
No I've see that Yes in a few clicks you can get back the good ol desk top. But why the fuck would I want to deal with all this extraneous metro shit tacked on if that's all I wanted? [editline]27th September 2012[/editline]
Facepunch your so wierd. I'm glad he is not, Windows 8 in my opinion looks like shit.
Oh wow! I don't like Windows 8 either and I won't be upgrading to that but what Notch did is just childish and retarded. Always Online DRM levels of retarded. NOBODY wins on what he's doing, not even Notch himself.

It's friendlier there. But yes, personally for me I find it much faster.
