we need to come up with a new designation for you guys, because you are so abrasively defensive I don't think anything can describe you properly.
how's about "intelligent"
we need to come up with a new designation for you guys, because you are so abrasively defensive I don't think anything can describe you properly.
There's not much else to say when the intelligence displayed with that sentence in your original post set the bar so abysmally low.
we need to come up with a new designation for you guys, because you are so abrasively defensive I don't think anything can describe you properly.
I don't like Windows 8 and love Windows 7 as well but even I thought your post was dumb.
how's about "intelligent"
Hat8rs. That's what I'll call you.
"I don't like optional features and a UI that I can change. Windows 8 sucks"
Hat8rs. That's what I'll call you.
I'm not sure what to think of being called a "Hateightr", is it a bad thing? I used to dislike Windows 8 a lot, but then I actually tried it.
Windows 8 just doesn't ring with me. I don't like the separation of desktop and start screen, and it's clearly designed for tablets which is ass, in my opinion.
Hat8rs. That's what I'll call you.
Hateighters
Windows 8 just doesn't ring with me. If you're like me, you'll enter the start screen about 3 times a day, and that's to use the useful apps it has like weather and things.
Extreme paranoia in this thread
Windows 8 just doesn't ring with me. The start screen gives you so much more room to actually find things. It's like a desktop that's easier to pop into and out of (in fact, I never really used the start menu; I always used the desktop to launch things; but now I've cleared every single icon off of my desktop and use the start screen exclusively).
They are trying to turn the pc into a fucking xbox.
They are trying to turn the pc into a fucking xbox.
Have you even used it? It's nothing like XBox! Actually, they're trying to turn it into a Zune!! /s
They are trying to turn the pc into a fucking xbox.
Yeah I just screamed at this guy who killed me in Microsoft Office god damn MS!
They are trying to turn the pc into a fucking xbox.
Yes, because this completely optional APP in the metro UI, aswell the the optional Xbox Smartglass app you have to download yourself is turning my PC into an Xbox. [t]http://puu.sh/19g7J[/t]
I've used it for over a month and I have to say Windows 8 is not that great, the start screen if you're not careful and install a lot of stuff like me rapidly becomes a cluttered mess, getting to the search is slightly slower and I hate the fact it takes you away from the desktop. The integration between metro and on desktop apps like IE is just terrible, it feels like metro is just a half finished desktop addon rather than a part of the operating system. The boot performance is somewhat better particularly on a SSD however this is not really that important on the whole, after all you'd have to be very impatient to consider 5-10 extra seconds long. The File Explorer is one of the best improvements I've encountered, it certainly makes things a lot easier so I can't complain there. The task manager is on the other hand rather annoying, while the added information is useful it also opens very slow, and really when something stops working you want it to end as quick as possible. Any actual performance improvement is marginal, a clean install of windows always feels fast at first but it's mostly in your head, there is practically zero FPS gain in games. Aside from the above I've also encountered some software compatibility problems, the odd driver related crash and a major bug that forced me to go back to 7. I'm not really impressed, considering the amount of time they spent on it more important issues should have been tackled like the decrepit old file system rather than giving it a coat of paint and a few moderately useful improvements, to me it seems the entire goal of Windows 8 is to get it into the tablet market rather than being focused towards PC users. I suppose it's ok once you get Metro out of the way but no way is it worth even $40.
I tried W8 for a day, but the lack of a start menu (Or an program that mimics W7 exactly) was enough to make me get rid of it, among loads of other little things which annoyed me to no end.

- No search is not slower, it takes the same amount of time to get searching as it did in Windows 7, hit the Win key, type, search complete! And your clutter issue can be solved with some simple cleaning up, you know? Kind of like you had to do on your desktop and Start menu before? The integration between metro and on desktop apps like IE is just terrible, it feels like metro is just a half finished desktop addon rather than a part of the operating system. - Simple answer: don't use Metro apps, you don't have to. The boot performance is somewhat better particularly on a SSD however this is not really that important on the whole, after all you'd have to be very impatient to consider 5-10 extra seconds long. - For HDD users the hybrid boot makes a world of change, not everyone is an SSD user, so the 8 seconds it takes to boot on a HDD compared to the 2-3 minutes Windows 7 took is great. The File Explorer is one of the best improvements I've encountered, it certainly makes things a lot easier so I can't complain there. The task manager is on the other hand rather annoying, while the added information is useful it also opens very slow, and really when something stops working you want it to end as quick as possible. - Task Manager doesn't seem any slower to me, but I have heard people mention this. Any actual performance improvement is marginal, a clean install of windows always feels fast at first but it's mostly in your head, there is practically zero FPS gain in games. - Desktop performance on low end devices is massively improved. You can't really judge the improvements on a high end PC while playing games, it's the low end you need to try it on. Aside from the above I've also encountered some software compatibility problems, the odd driver related crash and a major bug that forced me to go back to 7. - Developers really need to get their asses into gear in terms of drivers. - Not worth $40? Are you high? Windows is normally $200+ for the decent editions, if you can get a copy of Windows 8 for $40 and actually use it rather than judging every single thing it does, that's totally worth the cost for things like laptops. Not so much powerful desktops.
All in all, your post was kinda half there half not. They really do need to dump NTFS, but half the things you mentioned are non-issues really for the majority of users.
Everything you listed as a negative is either not valid for most PC users, or no longer the case, as those problems existed in beta and preview builds, but not in release builds.
This was the release build. It's perfectly fine if your stuck on XP or Vista but other than that there is not enough improvement to make it a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Once Metro is out of the way it is quite decent, however I would hold off buying it until they iron out all the remaining problems.
wow the amount of Knee jerking in this thread is hysterical on both sides. Yes, notch should have been a little more professional about this but W8 supporters, do you ever have the realization that People hate Windows 8 on a very base level and nothing you say, nor no matter how many alternatives to the Start menu you find to wave around will ever change that? I like Windows 7 and no I don't want my PC to be an Xbox, so I won't be buying windows 8.
So yes, basically what you're saying is that people CHOOSE to not like Windows 8 without even trying it out. You're totally correct. "herp derp, i don wan my pc to be a xbawxk lol" Jeez, where do you people come up with such retarded statemets?
I agree with this: http://www.neowin.net/news/notch-dont-be-a-hypocrite-about-minecraft-and-windows-8
I agree with this: http://www.neowin.net/news/notch-dont-be-a-hypocrite-about-minecraft-and-windows-8
I don't. There is no alternative on iOS, android or the xbox, he has to use those stores to be able to sell the game on iOS, android (maybe not really on android) and xbox live. Those have always been closed platforms, the pc has not. He doesn't wants the pc to turn into a closed platform as well.

It's not like Microsoft is going to bend to Notch's opinions and reverse the whole Windows Store decision because he didn't put Minecraft on it.
The whole "stop trying to ruin the open platform" is bullshit. I, for one welcome our Microsoft overlords with open arms. I fucking hate going to Steam, Nvidia, RARLabs, Filezilla's source forge everytime I reformat a PC. It'd be really nice to have a "Android-like marketplace" and that is what they're doing. Developers can choose whether or not to use the appstore and just like Android and iOS, there are alternative markets such as Cydia and the Amazon store. It isn't like Microsoft closing down installations unless you go to the Metro App store. That's not how it works and honestly do people think that is how it is?
I'll wait for Windows Vista 2
All these things, they are terrible. Windows 8 is terrible. Ubuntu with "Unity" is terrible. Apple... yes indeed. I'll just stick with my Debian / Win7 dual-boot. Good that minecraft is multi-platform.
