Notch refuses to help certify Minecraft for Windows 8

Windows 8 better be the last OS to support 32-bit. I'm sick of retarded family members and friends going to the local Best Buy and getting Windows 7 X86.

Because it totally concerns you what other people decide to buy.

It does when they all come to you and ask "why doesnt all my ram show up, derp"

Truth be told though, if 32-bit is no longer sold and supported, I'd be very happy. Consumer tech support can be quite an annoyance if the user doesn't know how to check which version he has.
Plus, it may spark development into a new bit-system, just like how it went with FAT16 and FAT32.
Start 8 basically turns Windows 8 into a super fast windows 7 now.
I disagree. I tried Start 8 and it felt very different to the W7 start menu. A lot of the small things I use a lot in the W7 start menu also didn't work in it.

When I'm fixing their computers, you're goddamn right it does.

Try the newest version. Did you use the really early beta version with the "Metro box"?
When I'm fixing their computers, you're goddamn right it does.
If you get paid, why do you complain? If you don't get paid, what the fuck are you doing fixing computers for free?

notch spends barely a fraction of his money on vacations

Neither does Notch.
Neither does Notch.
That's what I'm saying. They're not all that different
I like how whenever notch is mentioned facepunch collectively shits its pants in rage.
Are we honestly doing this again? Really, when will we just fucking realize that notch's opinion has not been or will ever be relevant.
As for the Win8 bashing, It's a good OS, get over the start menu issue, personally I think it's stupid too but Jesus there are alternatives to replace that ALREADY. There is not a single reason that makes Win8 a terrible os but the start menu, and to be honest that's a pretty shitty excuse to disregard an entire OS.
I disagree. I tried Start 8 and it felt very different to the W7 start menu. A lot of the small things I use a lot in the W7 start menu also didn't work in it.
The latest version turned it into what I said.
I literally had a friend say this to me after I said "Windows 8 is like an Xbox 360 on PC" -
Him: "That's what it's supposed to be."
Seriously are people retarded these days about OS's?
Wow, if anything, the stereotype I'd go with is that Windows 8 is like a tablet on PC. But even that's not entirely correct.
(Although Metro did obviously inherit partially from the XBox interface, which inherited partially from Zune. But XBox is an entirely different use case; there aren't any touch controls.)
Not really. Stuff like,"I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform." He followed up saying he'd "rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along," and hoping that it will keep some users from switching to Windows 8.
Is pure idiotic. Why would he want Minecraft not to run on W8 because he doesn't like it? Why would he want W8 to fail massively because he doesn't like it? Only selfish fucks would say something like this, how can you let your personal opinion get in the way of stuff like this anyway. Why wouldn't he want as much people as possible to be able to play his game. But instead, he cries like a fool about how bad W8 is and no one should play on it/use it.
I don't understand this, is Microsoft trying to regulate Windows like iOS okay to FP, or have I been misinformed?
I don't understand this, is Microsoft trying to regulate Windows like iOS okay to FP, or have I been misinformed?
It's not really the same thing; Windows Store is an optional service; you don't need to jailbreak Windows to install non-Windows-Store apps.
It's more like Android; you can use the Google Play Store, or the Amazon App Store, or any store, or install APKs from anywhere (as long as you tick a checkbox, which is like SmartScreen).
Two short tweets are enough to cause a shit storm spanning multiple news articles and a six page thread of FP arguing about Windows 8 nowadays?
I'm currently running Win 8 Pro (Final release), and all this stupid hurts my brain
I've used it for over a month and I have to say Windows 8 is not that great, the start screen if you're not careful and install a lot of stuff like me rapidly becomes a cluttered mess, getting to the search is slightly slower and I hate the fact it takes you away from the desktop.
The integration between metro and on desktop apps like IE is just terrible, it feels like metro is just a half finished desktop addon rather than a part of the operating system.
The boot performance is somewhat better particularly on a SSD however this is not really that important on the whole, after all you'd have to be very impatient to consider 5-10 extra seconds long.
The File Explorer is one of the best improvements I've encountered, it certainly makes things a lot easier so I can't complain there.
The task manager is on the other hand rather annoying, while the added information is useful it also opens very slow, and really when something stops working you want it to end as quick as possible.
Any actual performance improvement is marginal, a clean install of windows always feels fast at first but it's mostly in your head, there is practically zero FPS gain in games.
Aside from the above I've also encountered some software compatibility problems, the odd driver related crash and a major bug that forced me to go back to 7.
I'm not really impressed, considering the amount of time they spent on it more important issues should have been tackled like the decrepit old file system rather than giving it a coat of paint and a few moderately useful improvements, to me it seems the entire goal of Windows 8 is to get it into the tablet market rather than being focused towards PC users.
I suppose it's ok once you get Metro out of the way but no way is it worth even $40.
Becomes cluttered? there's such thing as organization, put icons into groups, and label them, honestly, it's not that hard
[thumb]http://puu.sh/19II5[/thumb]
personally I like having both Metro!IE and a desktop browser, metro!IE is great for that quick search or browse, or showing something to someone, nice clear and clean
Boot performance over win 7 for me is ludicriously better, and this was upgrading, not a fresh install
any bit of performance improvement is nice...
fucking idiot
(notch)
He is not an idiot.
He just sees what microsoft is doing.
They are slowly getting rid of the desktop.
Later they will try to force people to use their "store" to get games.
Since their store doesn't allow anything over PEGI 18 it would ruin alot of game developers.
TL;DR:
Windows is slowly is becoming a closed system that will be used on phones/computers/tablets and that gets rid of the best thing of having a PC: Freedom.

Doubt it.
Now why would they do that? "Because they're idiots?" Clearly they aren't. Don't you think it makes more sense for them to use freedom as a selling point, and keep developing the app store on the side as an option in order to get best of both worlds?

Yes, because optional features in windows 8 = the death of PC, forcing us to use their optional apps, and forcing us to abandon PC gaming for mobile devoces and tablet. Uhhhhh, you can't be serious. Microsoft has made some bad moves in the past, but they are not stupid, nor attempting to destroy the PC. Expand the PC to mobile markets perhaps, nothing more.
Good on him. Isn't Gaben doing the same?
Good on him. Isn't Gaben doing the same?
Edit:
What I mean is, I don't think that this new windows is good for game devs. I hope other devs will follow suite.
I like how you guys call Notch a child when even Gabe Newell said "Windows 8 is a catastrophe", and you don't go around hating on Gabe.
I swear, Gabe has dementia because he said the same thing about the Playstation 3 and then suddenly.
Also, since when are we paying attention to a man who can't program for shit as we've seen from the twitter sent into CLEAN UP EVERYTHING NOTCH DID.

So because he isn't the best programmer in the world his opinion doesn't matter?
You know the best thing about Windows 8?
right click > Mount
Totally. I don't have to install any clunky Daemon Tools anymore. But it kinda sucks that it can't mount bin/cue files.
