No-one plays it, sadly, all the servers that are up have ping-kick and are usually in russia. Vietnam was an amazing expansion, so much better than the main game.
It wasn't really an expansion. Sure, it was on the same engine, but wasn't an expansion.
There's really only a couple of games set in the Vietnam war.
As some others said BF2 and BF2142 had bots but they were rarely ever turned on by server owners, they usually had enough players.
I always played games by myself back then, so bots were my only option in the Battlefield series. It was a huge disappointment when 2142's Titan Mode was made multiplayer only. Shortly afterwards, I lost the manual to Battlefield 2, which meant I didn't have the CD Key - and I couldn't use the Special Forces expansion, either.

So I was never able to diagnose the problem. I was only able to start playing 2142 after the game was beginning to die.
Just digged through my closet and found this game. I know what I'm doing tonight! This is actually going to be pretty interesting since the last time I played this was on a CRT monitor and a really shit PC.
This was my first combat game.
Apparently, Japan still has an active 1942 community especially with the Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons mod man, I would love to play FHSW on a full server...
i still have the case and CDs. its still my favorite battlefield to date.
I still have the Battlefield 1942 Anthology, which includes BFV as well. I keep it around for nostalgic reasons.
holy shit, I just got the game at a thrift shop, like, 5 days ago...
I remember buying this not knowing a thing about it. First time I had a Huey fly by with the radio blasting I was in love.
this game is hella dope, if dice made another full fledged game based in vietnam i would probably play the shit out of it. the bc2 expansion was also really great, its just a shame that nobody plays it anymore
Project Reality mod actually has a Vietnam mode and I tell you is ungodly fun. The only bad thing is no helicopter music, but then again I usually just play it constantly over local chat for everyone's enjoyment.
Yeah, it's a pity they don't get played as much as they used to, especially since Ia Drang is bugged, and all I see put on is Hill 488 anyway. Tad Sae should be quite interesting with the new muzzle flashes though.
It was also the last one with bots. Was pretty fun going 16 on 64 with bots fucking everywhere.
Battlefield 2 had bots.
While we're on this nostalgia-y topic, does anyone remember a BF1942: Secret Weapons demo server where the vehicles spawned near instantly and there was low gravity?
I hope they make a 1942 / vietnam expansion for battlefield 4
You'll never get the kind of fun/quality like the old battlefields. The new one just doesn't match up.
I was so hyped for this game it hurt. I wasn't disappointed when it came out, I played it for YEARS. I still dip into it occasionally because it's just ridiculous amounts of fun to napalm bots on the la Drang Valley. The soundtrack introduced me to so many great artists and every single track fills me with nostalgia listening to them now. I knew every map, and every vehicle, and every bullshit respawn point the bots used to 'win' on certain maps... so many hours joyfully spent in this game, and I don't regret a single one of them. I used to go by the moniker 'Heli Pilot' because of the my love of the whirlybirds in this game.
hopefully this will have a free release on origin like 1942 please ea???? i just want to play the 1942 redux but it's nigh impossible without old install discs and unused CD keys (hard to buy new)
Such great memories with battlefield vietnam, I remember my father bought it for me at best buy when I was 11, and I was so frusturated when I got home because I didnt know how to update my game to play online. After 3 months of offline play and hours of reading on gamespy I figured it out haha.
