there where all crap at least RE5 had Wesker
Killing Wesker was the biggest mistake they made in RE5. I'm also curious how he found the time in between being a supervillain and prepping for worldwide genocide/domination to bang a chick (who would even touch that egomaniac) so we could get Jake in RE6. Re5 should have ended inspector gadget style. With Chris foiling Wesker's plans and Wesker promising "NEXT TIME REDFIELD! NEXT TIME!" Would have at least been worth a good laugh. It also would have been the perfect setup for RE6 since the whole game was about the global infection with the C-virus. Wesker would made a great end boss too. Have the different campaigns come together to stop Wesker. Surely would have been a better grand finale than [sp]those losers Simmons and Carla, they were pathetic villains.[/sp] Ok I'm done flaunting my boner for Wesker. Carry on.
The Evil Within is a true successor to RE4, but it's also really janky and has that weird psuedo-low-budget Japanese game feeling to the actual gameplay.
The Evil Within spent all its time trying to recreate scenes and setpieces from RE4. It missed the point of what RE4 was doing and it squandered its own story by trying to be vague and mysterious. The further the game goes on the more it's torn between trying to mimic RE4 and trying to do its own thing, to the point where it just starts to fall apart. I don't RE4 can ever have a true successor. It was pretty much a perfect game. The story was concise, well paced, and self contained. The level design was fantastic with a shocking amount of diversity in environments. The gameplay was superb, being possibly the only game to make tank controls feel good. And the cast was filled with likeable characters with strong personalities. It was an absolute masterpiece, and I say this as someone who first played it last year. The Evil Within didn't fulfil any of those things, neither did RE5, they're both good games and wear their 'inspiration' on their sleeves but they're no RE4. That's a good thing I think, would RE4 have been as good as it is if the developers were trying to make another RE2? Probably not.
Sadly, though, it doesn't sound like there'll be remastered versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 to follow this year's excellent Resi 1 remake in the foreseeable future, though he's not ruling them out. "The hurdle is high, but we’d like to respond to as much demand as possible." Shout loud enough, and it might happen.
Seriously, your site even did a fucking article on it like two months ago.
Different writers, probably somehow overlooked it.
Still pretty pathetic. There's a reason PCgamesN has the reputation they have on this site. It's not unwarranted.
Different writers, probably somehow overlooked it.
Point is somebody at fucking PCGamesN knew and they still fucked it up, not to mention if you google "Resident Evil 2 remake" there's fucking pages of news sites confirming it.

His motives and goals are largely a mystery to us; but we know that's he's more than capable. I always liked to think that he was just just in it for himself, but at least he was subtle. Cunning. Smart. It was intriguing to speculate what he was up to. Then RE5 comes along and we learn that Wesker's grand plan all along was to make everyone into tentacle monsters and be king tentacle monster... That's not all either. Wesker's powers are amplified to ridiculous levels but he acts like a moron. Also the final battle takes place in the middle of an active volcano.
I find killing him with a rail gun (ala resi3) is more feasible than the whole latter half of the final boss. Plus I fucking lost it when he started calling himself a god. [sp]"Everyday, humans bring themselves one step closer to self destruction. I'm not destroying the world I'm saving it. A new Genesis is at hand, and I will be the creator!"[/sp] I mean Jesus he's that full of himself. You don't get to Wesker's position of power by being an arrogant twat. Makes me wonder why Chris couldn't kill Wesker in code veronica. All that strength and power won't mean shit if you lack the intelligence to utilize it effectively.

I'm so fucking conflicted on RE5 Wesker because D.C. Douglas probably gives the best Wesker performance ever and his powers were really cool, but they characterized him as an arrogant moron and revealed his plan throughout the whole series was fucking dumb.
Why don't they make Resident Evil 7 an open world game like The Phantom Pain? Like going around a zombie infested town and jungles. doing errants and side quest. Fight monsters and mutants as well as rebel enemy humans that is out to get you. Like the Witcher 3.

Like the Witcher 3.
No. The Phantom Pain basically demonstrated the evils of Open World game design; completely boring world that has nothing that actually makes it notable or alive, combined with filler and reused missions that are all basically the same thing over and over and over again. Technically previous Resident Evil games have given you large facilities and locations with numerous paths compared to the linearity of 4 and beyond, i'd rather a survival horror game follow earlier examples than jump in the pointless bandwagon of boring open world design for the sake of a trend.
I could see an open world-ish Resident Evil working better if they make it a Raccoon City kinda setting, go with a Dying Light style open world rather than a Phantom Pain one. Though I'd prefer that kinda thing as a spinoff title, not a main series thing.

[editline]14th October 2015[/editline]
You could say that the original REs took place in very small open worlds, but each path was fairly linear and there wasn't much to do aside from your main goal.
There was still extra ammo and shit and it gave the places a sense of actual depth. The RE1 mansion feels big, even more so in REmake. I wouldn't really say the same for RE6 or even RE5, personally.

On the flip side that's a huge risk. Metal Gear Solid 5 demonstrated the good and evil of open world design. From a gameplay perspective it's likely the best game in the series yet (that's obviously up for debate.) From a story/world building perspective it's the weakest title yet. Good gameplay is obviously important but a truly great game is judged by the sum of its parts. Not just one part.
