Firewatch, the walking simulator, is getting review-bombed on Steam

I feel like the Firewatch guys saw all this recent stuff about Stormfront getting shut down, etc. in the wake of the Charlottesville thing, and thought "hey we can have a part in this too".
But they picked a very dumb fight that doesn't have anything to do with them and that they didn't have the authority to do anything about.
Firewatch is legitimately one of the worst games I have ever played.
It's only redeemable factor is that sometimes, the visuals are nice.
It is the epitome of a "non-game" experience.
Here we go again. "Walking simulators are not real games." You've already been proven wrong so many times before.
Firewatch isn't that bad but it's not that great either. There was a nice aura of mystery that they built up pretty well but amounted to one of the worst anti-climaxes I've ever seen. But the relationship and dialogues between the two main characters is well-written and well acted.

I think the subtext to calling walking simulators not games is that while technically they meet the criteria of a game, they don't make for very fun games.

Well yeah, that's correct. Doesn't mean they're not games though.

calling them games actively hinders such experiences because it attaches, in many people's minds, and expectation of challenge or play on some level
Firewatch is a fantastic gane.
Dunno if I'd say that, it was a huge let down for me. To keep spoilers to a minimum, the entire plot twist was something I guessed about half an hour into the game and anything interesting that you might think is unrelated is just red herrings. Red herrings can be a good part of any mystery, but when I got to the ending all I could really think was "that was it????"

And yet it's what every stereotypical games "journalist" fawns over.

They're games in the same way that a kinetic visual novel is really. They may not adhere to most people's definition of a game but they're still a game. The issue comes with walking simulators not being quite as obvious. It could be easy to mistake them for a proper game if things aren't made clear enough. People get way too heated over them though either way. If you don't like walking simulators then don't play them. Nobody is trying to force you to.
DMCA takes precedence over a line on your website saying "people in general can monetize videos of our game."

Funnily enough pewdiepie had an identical reaction to the end of firewatch in his video and I'm betting on this dev being vindictive over that and using this recent development as an excuse

that is fair to think but I like the quite a bit as an exploration of a well written character rather than a game
like it as a game or not it is pretty well written
I guess they got
Firebombed.
Because I care more about racism than I do about DMCAs; my mouth has never slipped and said that out loud, but then again I'm not a closet racist. Nobody accidentally says that word, especially a person with so much influence on a public stream, and if they do they need speech therapy or something.
It wasn't racism, though

I guess I'll put a pile of books on my hypothetical yard with a sign that says "free books" then a year later I'll sue everyone who took a book because one line on a sign doesn't take precedence over the law.
