interesting news, thanks for sharing
i would take replaceable battery over water resistance any day. never dropped a phone in water, but every fucking phone ive ever had has battery issues after 2 years. Fucking bullshit
https://i.imgur.com/VjZ2xnJ.jpg I really want a modern N97. The keyboard was so nice and it was surprisingly sturdy. Somebody make the same design just with modern hardware and android and I take it. I actually used it a lot during class because I could type blind and just wasted minimal time to click stuff. Unless we invent holograms or just transparent planes that magically interact with everything I don't think we will ever go away from how a phone looks nowadays. Its either the all screen rectangles, smaller rectangles with classic phone T9 keyboard or some random flip phone here and there.
Small phones would be nice. My dad offered to upgrade my iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6S when it had just come out, and he really wanted to do something nice for me so I said yes, but I really miss the one-thumb usability of my 4S. Also I never used a case on it and it lasted the entire time through many many drops. That phone was skookum as frig. I never had a single problem with it. I've busted the screen on my 6S 3 times so far, and the Lightning port is always dirty. If I hadn't upgraded to this 6S I'd probably still have my 4S now. In my opinion, as far as touchscreen keyboardless phones go, I think the 4/4S is the best industrial design ever made. 2 screws to take it apart, easy to service, perfect size for one-thumb usage.
People in this thread talking that today's phones are shit quality and breaking all the time, yet here I am, nearly 2 years later with my ZTE Axon 7, and it's still in great shape. Screen isn't damaged, all the ports still work, hasn't slowed a beat (especially with LineageOS on it). Battery is still good too. Never put a case or screen protector on this thing either. The Nexus 4 I had before that lasted me even longer. Same case. Only damage to it was some scratches on its non gorilla glass back. Basically, just take care of your phones, people. I know "accidents happen", but people must be really goddamn clumsy if they're happening so often that I see so many iPhones with cracked screens everywhere.
Battery issues are common with the Axon 7, but much like you, I haven't had any ridiculous issues that can't be attributed to the fact that its 2 years old. I mean, mine survived being submerged in ditch water when I was thrown from my motorcycle. 6 months later, no issues.
You'll pay more than an S9 for an N950 too!
Honestly, the only reason i have a case on my LG V20 is the camera glass. If it even gets a small scratch it cracks, and usally right through where the cameras are. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't use a case, just a screen protector. I have so little money that my phones have to last a VERY long time, so I will never use a non-removable battery phone.
i think the v20 did the whole "notch" thing correctly and before its time. also, the quad dac really lives up to its name and is fantastic, and the battery is replacable, and has an sd card slot. it has everything you want in a phone
Most tech becomes very similar as it matures and an optimal design is used, tanks are a prime example.
Yep, pretty much. Plus the secondary screen is handy. It makes me sad they killed the secondary screen on the V30 (as well as the removable battery, otherwise I would of gone for that one!). Sure it's not water proof but it's an exceptionally powerful phone and I can just chuck worn out batteries and slap a new one in.
That Nokia would be 10/10 if the screen filled the entire black area, and they moved the front camera down into the body.
All the technology in the world, and the best example you could think of was tanks?
tanks are dank
phones
I don't understand why my phone has a glass back. All it does is make the phone randomly slide off my desk because it provides no friction, pick up fingerprints and makes my photos look shit because there is a crack going over the camera after my phone fell about an inch out of my pocket when I was sat down.

Because it's the most important thread in the section?
You think that's bad? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/133314/5df325c7-a5f6-4443-8448-58f35da3aaf1/image.png
All y'all with white ass backgrounds are giving me flashbacks of css being broken.
Generally I settle for every 3 years - I got the Huawei P8 in July 2015 and I bought the Huawei P20 Lite in July 2018. The phone was still functional, but noticably slower than when I first got it. That, combined with the cracked screen, was enough of a reason to just get a new phone.
ctrl+f5
The Galaxy S5 managed both water resistance and exchangeable battery, it even had a Arm64 variant, great times. Still only goes to show that it is possible and feasible to do. If it weren't a decision based off design and cost cutting.
Its almost as if we've been developing cellphones for about 20-30 years now. And we have passed the awkward years of design development and honed its design to what it is today.
Oh god this thread is showing up twice on sensational headlines now
