Their service sucks and most of the time their computers are poorly put together such as loose hard drives.
I have a friend who has one and it's terrible.
Well it does matter if the HDD disconnects during use and you lose data due to their total incompetence to secure a SATA cable. Service is a big part for expensive luxury items, you expect them to respond in a timely, and reasonable manner to requests for help or information. Saying service isn't important is ridiculous.
Well the SATA cable being loose is different from it being unsecured, hard drives are typically on a rail, are they not? Service is important, but it really doesn't affect my opinion of a company too much, as long as you get what you are entitled (warranty n shit) then it's fine. It's only relevant to me when it's notably good, otherwise, as long as I get what I deserve, I'm good.

Not to mention how completely overpriced it is.. and if they give you anything free it will be something worth like $10. "Here for all the trouble you've had, have a free mouse pad no charge!"

Unless the majority of computers ibp creates are fucked up, then I'll just chalk it up to generic errors in manufacturing [editline]25th November 2013[/editline] free stuff is free stuff
i actually had a "custom" machine put together by ibuypower, i don't use it because it fucking died. liquid cooling was absolutely fucked and ruined everything. i wouldn't recommend them. [editline]26th November 2013[/editline] i mean before that it was a pretty decent machine so if you do still go with them just don't get any of their liquid cooling, put it in your self

Work 2. Put together properly. There is no reason that a custom built computer shouldn't be put together right and work when they send it to you. I can understand damage during shipping, but anything else is unacceptable.
I prefer my boxes under my TV to be black. It matches better together with the TV and accessories and the shelf.
I got an iBuyPower and the only problem I had with it was the liquid cpu cooler died and I had to buy a new cooler, other than that it is a great machine.
Wow, I have an iBuypower and I'm having what is potentially the same problem. I get random shutdowns but I don't ever really notice any overheating issues. It has shut down while playing LoL and Minecraft but not games like BF4 and AC4.

I can see people buying this instead of one of the next gen systems. [editline]26th November 2013[/editline]
Currently the company has two prototypes: Gordon and Freeman. Both are identical save for the light bar around the middle. More specifically, Gordon has a blacked out area where the lighting is, and it's totally black when turned off, whereas Freeman is translucent/milky in that area.
"Gordon and Freeman" Now they are just taunting us.

Which for the masses is still pretty "lole nerds" because there is some effort. And if you were to explain it it's likely they'd just reply with something like "well, sounds like a PS4/ XBOne". And they'd be fairly right to say that really.
I doubt many uninformed would see it as a PC, since they don't understand what a PC is. They'll think they're some kind of console.
Pretty sure most people know what a PC is, it's a general computer, most people know what computers are. However, as it doesn't accept discs, is from some company they may never have heard of, and doesn't have the advertising behind it the major consoles do, their perception of it might well be "it's a computer that I can't do much on", rather than "it's a console I can computer on". Especially due to SteamOS being quite trim. And you do have the issue of support on Linux, until most games have linux support it's not the most useful console, as you'd be relying on a stronger PC and streaming otherwise.
A friend bought an ibuypower a few years ago and it was well put together without costing much more than buying the parts themselves. Wire work in particular was great. The only issue was a couple of years later the liquid cooler for the CPU shorted out. As it turns out iBuyPower is somewhat known for skimping on the cooling with most of their systems coming with off-brand liquid cooling. [editline]25th November 2013[/editline] See? :v:
I've bought an iBuyPower machine only once. It was given a no-name PSU that died within a year, so I had to buy a replacement. Since then, I've been buying my parts from Newegg and doing the labor myself because I'm wary about buying most "gaming-centric" premades.

Since it's aimed at the living room, I don't think people will really be thinking about the fact that "it's a PC" more "It isn't awful to use", that would require some kind of demonstration like the console demo units they have around though.

But people don't know that, there is almost no advertising campaign for this console. And things such as emulation? Most people won't know what they are doing to set it up. As for the game library, yeah it has more games than the consoles, because Steam is older than the consoles. But will all the big, AAA releases work on the Steam Machine? Probably not, Linux is barely supported by the developers of the games that make or break a device.
As it turns out iBuyPower is somewhat known for skimping on the cooling with most of their systems coming with off-brand liquid cooling.
I bought an iBuyPower PC once and it's great except for the CPU cooling. It was stock AMD, IE a jet engine in all aspects.
I've bought an iBuyPower machine only once. It was given a no-name PSU that died within a year, so I had to buy a replacement.
Pretty much same thing happened to me, PSU failed about half a year in, and that's after the GPU was pretty much bricked, it was a GT 9600, it worked fine for small stuff, but the second you tried to play a game on it, artifacting everywhere, and then it would bluescreen or something, this was a long time ago though.
