Sleeping Dogs PC demo released; Square Enix 'incredibly supportive' of platform

For some reason the demo keeps crashing as soon as the ESRB rating comes up for me
Is the game optimized as good as Just Cause 2 for PC?

i5 2500k
8gb ram
EVGA GTX 670
Maxing out with high AA at constant 60 fps.
I don't understand how people are saying this is a good PC port. You have to navigate the menus by keyboard, you need both hands on the keyboard if you want to use the phone while walking or driving, getting in a vehicle is right click and you can't change it to E or F because they're both used for combat, and the keys are bundled together, made up example Space = Jump/Sprint/Punch and you can't bind them separately

Oh and it has really bad mouse support where the camera follows the direction, but not necessarily the speed of your mouse movement. I just don't understand where there is anything that could be considered good?
Controls are shit but the game itself performs fairly well.

That doesn't help at all.
That's a good computer, why would you even think that?
It's a pretty awesome but brief demo.
I turned down a job today in Hong Kong :C
It's really confusing me driving on the left in this game. I mean I live in the UK but I am so used to driving on the right in video games

Still not as high as my rig, on all counts. Quit the dick-waving.

That told us nothing, but thanks, I was dying to know about your rig.
It's like the camera doesn't want to be moved.
I really like the game's depiction of Hong Kong, having been there in April it's bringing back memories. It's pretty accurate, maybe a few too many neon signs though
what :v:
referring to german censorship of games, no blood, hence robot enemies or mutants with green blood

Yeah my dad lives in the Wan Chai (redlight) district so I've managed to spend a lot of time in Hong Kong. It really is an awesome city.
I went on a tour of locations featured in Deus Ex while I was there
You guys have to remember that Square Enix is really more of a publisher now, since Eidos has been making most of their games, while Square spends most of its resources on porting the early Final Fantasy titles and other snes rpgs to portables, and Final Fantasy 13 sequels.

I'm going to gamble and say that they only really went ahead with giving the developer resources to do a proper pc port, because of the massively positive reception to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Good to see a developer actually release a demo for their game. They're so few and far between these days.

In terms of getting used to the Western market and understanding customers, Square is doing some royal shit right now. First they deliver DXHR with some good advertising work and now this, I hope this trend continues.

AMD 5770, i7 860 and 4gb ram. Can run the game perfectly on all high at 1080p very surprising for a new game. I was really surprised at how well this runs.
This demo makes me wish I had money.
Just so people know, the demo's 2 missions, and no free roam. That said, I'm definitely getting this on sale.
So I was playing the demo and found a game breaking bug where all the UI disabled. I eventually failed the mission I was doing and I had to force exit the game because there were no buttons to press. This happen to anyone else?
That aside, fun game, will buy at Xmas I think.
I can't even get this demo to work, I've resintalled it twice and it keeps crashing on or after startup, the longest it went crashing was until I had to edit my sound settings.

The controls are just about the only thing thats really bad port-wise for the PC version - and even then its not like the consoles are perfect in this, they suffer the same bad control layouts.
Despite the bad controls though, they aren't terrible - the game is perfectly playable with M+K even if you have to work around its quirks.
Everything else in the game is pretty damn good port wise. They actually have anti-aliasing settings and a built in frame rate limiter, among stuff like HD texture packs, SSAO, etc. The game runs good, its generally bug-free, etc.
To be honest, the controls really aren't that great with a controller either: aiming feels very floaty and I constantly found myself bumping into stuff whilst sprinting.

Well fuck
5870, i7 950, 6GB RAM but if I max this out I get horrific mouse lag

Turn off v-sync.
This game is so well optimised, it runs at 30fps medium on my laptop.

Well. That's not really Square. It's mainly just a rebranded Eidos and they operate pretty much as they did, except with the head suits being guys in Japan.
Never heard of Sleeping Dogs (but then I haven't been keeping up really), but a publisher avoiding crappy outsourced console ports is always nice!
It's still a crappy port. It's just optimized extremely well. The Mouse camera controls are really shit, IMO, right now. Seeing as there isn't much gunplay in the game, though, I don't mind using a controller, and it works really well

Optimized extremely well = good port
