Besides, someone at Valve said that HL2: EP3 would contain horror. If it's gonna contain Amnesia references I wouldn't be surprised if a Gatherer/Servant/Grunt would go "Boo!" from a vent
Amnesia didn't invent horror.
Gabe said they would make it more scarier, but you can take different ways how to make a game scary.
HL3/EP3 will be bad because they don't have Kelly Bailey on music or Viktor Antonov on art it's all gone to hell.
I think the Viktor shit holds some truth, but who knows, maybe people at Valve learned from him and know how to do his style.
But I think the music will still be amazing.

Viktor doesn't really matter anymore because his main purpose was to design City 17 and the Combine, which aren't really going to get changed. It's a shame Kelly left, tho.
OH FUCK I JUST REALIZED I BUMPED THIS
It would be best if Borealis turns into a gargantuan robot with legs that has a citadel on it and he will be final boss
It's obvious Valve is working on HL3.
And since they are taking their sweet time, its gonna be on a new engine.
Let's hope its a game changer just like HL2 was. Kind of doubt it, but we know nothing of Source 2. For all we know it has the meaning of life written somewhere in it.

Seeing as Valve has a real problem with bosses this could very well be it

Half Life 2 had some amazing tech when it came out
If 3 comes out with just as impressive surprises that would be beautiful
hl3 confirmed for dynamic water
why is this so popular

Because a company like Valve needs two people alone to achieve the effects of their flagship game, they know what they're doing.

I was wondering why this article was here, then I saw it was 3 weeks old :v:

See?
lol what if they actually release ricochet 2 but when you click on 'new game' in the ricochet menu it drops you into the beginning of half life 3
[sp]lol wont happen[/sp]
I want to believe.
It would be funny if they did go through with the ricochet 2 and hl3 but to play hl3 you had to play through ricochet 2 entirely before the game unlocked.
Lock the thread please
valve please stop publishing progressively lamer games

Dota 2 and progressively lame? Are you kidding me?
And CS: GO makes fun. Aren't games about having fun?
And what do you mean with "this"? Ricochet 2 is the codename for
Half Life 3, don't you want it?
Also, Team Fortress 2.1: Moar hats
no it doesn't
They have for HL2/EP1/EP2.
The final "Boss" in HL2 was just combine and some elevators and then some mechanic hitting shields away from breen.
I did that shit in crash bandicoot, some guy with crystals.

The Strider Battle was pretty boss.

Because Valve doesn't want to separate the game into obvious segments, having "Boss Fights" is highly artificial.

The Nihilanth didnt feel like an obvious segment, it felt like the final fight.
HL2 really just lacks a proper boss, its pretty much the only thing HL2 lacked.
Having a bossfight isn't a requirement for good gameplay.
What's wrong with Ricochet 2 anyway? I mean, just compare Team Fortress 2 with Team Fortress Classic, maybe they can pull out something amazing with this as well. Yeah it's probably a joke, but still, it's Valve, you can expect anything from them.

Their is nothing redeemable from Ricochet.

I was original. :v:
That's something.
IMO the bossfights of HL2 and EP2 are completely fine because of the Eleventh Hour Superpowers you get. It's like an inversion of the boss pooping out new abilities, so instead in HL2 you had to learn to aim a very slow moving projectile with the gravity gun, which in itself was a weapon with unique gameplay in your arsenal. Out of all parts of the HL2 family, it also had the most narrative buildup, with Breen trashtalking you until the very end and the Vance/Mossman family drama resolving.
In EP2 the only real way of taking down the Striders was the Magnusson, which not only had to be aimed with the Gravity Gun but also hit with the pistol or something afterwards while you're trying to maneuver through an alien horde with your car. That certainly was a very different segment from the usual gameplay as well. The open arena in an otherwise much more linear game probably helped, too.
EP1 probably had the most boring bossfight, but it was still distinguished as a type of enemy you haven't fought before, and you being powerless and running away for most of the time. That said, 80% of the bossfight was running away a linear path and then finally getting a bunch of rockets, so gameplay wise there wasn't that much to it; and the real big action end of Ep1 is seeing the citadel exploding in the distance. Story-wise there also wasn't a lot more to it than "get out of the city" either.
Personally I found HL2's boss battle most fun, EP2 just felt like a big pile of chaos to me.
Tho it certainly helped you could smuggle Breen's fine leather armchair to the top of the citadel and watch the explosion from there.
Why is this news still going on? It happened 3 weeks ago. Let it die already.
That feeling when you know you will never fly a Combine Gunship in some Resistance vs. Combine HL3 multiplayer, which will never happen.
Valve said that they will focus more on multiplayer so HL3 might get a multiplayer gamemode, just like HL1.
More specifically they said they would never release a game without a multiplayer component.
We'll probably get a HL3: Deathmatch.

And like HL2.
It was called deathmatch.
It wasnt until Sven Coop that made HL1 coop.
