I said in the first Duke Nukem Forever thread that it looks good, but my greatest fear is that it isn't going to be much fun, and only used nudity to attract people.
Scripted to hell and back? Thanks but no thanks, time to find something else to play.
Why are people annoyed with scripted sequences, again?

Because they can't pway it out like Half Life..!
Seriously... I really do hate how people bitch, and complain about ss's they make the game fun if used correctly, they make the game boring if used incorrectly. Don't use them? The game is the biggest snorefest in existence.
I wish the demo was at least longer. I may have enjoyed it more if it had allowed me time to get into it.
I liked the whole Duke Nukem feeling, I liked the weapons, I liked how the game looked...
But why only two weapons? Why no kick to the nuts for a melee attack? It's Duke, sure, but it's not the same Duke I played as all those years ago.
Still going to get the game of course, and I'm going to enjoy it like I enjoyed the demo.
the game should've been released back in 2001, go see the old trailer (which is gameplay, not rendered unlike some people believe) and you'll agree.
I did enjoy the demo, or at least the part I could play. In fullscreen the graphics bugged out and left me looking at the toilet seat whilst it smeared itself against the tiled wall. After changing it to the very annoying windowed mode I managed to get a bit further, but not much. I managed to defeat the cyclops thing but as I triumphantly went to yank it's wires out for the good of humanity, the game decided my fevered smashing of the spacebar was of no importance to it, leaving me in an endless cycle of: chip off final points of health, run up to monster, stare at it's back then get thrown onto the ground like in so many a tantrum. The game itself was good but if these gamebreaking bugs aren't ironed out then there will be absolutely no point in even having the rest of it.

Holy shit looks awesome, I'd rather play that.
I liked the first level, I thought the drawing on the whiteboard and some other things were pretty cool, shows that they put some real effort in to the game that there are silly distractions like that.
The second level was mediocre though, and I can't kill the gunship. I've shot five rockets and two bombs at it one after the other and it won't go down. What am I doing wrong?

There is an ammo box where you replenish your rockets. Just keep shooting rockets at it.

Oh, it looks like there's a shield when you hit it so I thought I was missing a weak spot or something
I *loved* the driving section, but it was much too short.
Everything else was just... underwhelming. :/ The graphics are serviceable... and the gun-play is bland.
You're not alone. I guess it's the same with Bulletstorm. Apparently every game is being taken 100% serious these days.
That's a silly way of avoiding the issue. The game is just dated and, like another user said, hollow. Some parts are funny but overall it's insanely forgettable. No one is prejudiced against it because it's silly. It's Duke Nukem after all, that's the whole appeal. The gameplay is just really drab.
People expect the perfect game, even though half of the time waited was it just not being worked on at all.
A good demo is one you can play over and over, and yet still leaves you wanting the full game.
Examples of this are the demos for Silent Storm and FEAR.
I uninstalled the DNF demo immediately after finishing all 15 minutes of it.

Apparently it was 100 percent scripted according to an ex-3D Realms Employee. 3D Realms denied it however.
Point about this is that Gearbox are in the position where they could release a steaming hot turd and label it "DNF IS FINALLY HERE" and people would shit themselves
Well, I'm downloading the demo to give it a try.
I think perhaps it'd be better if it never was released, and we'd be able to tell our jokes.
We'd tell our grandchildren about the game that never was forever.
So, I take it that the game isn't worth picking up?

Perhaps if you're a fan of the series.
So I watched the demo, and it looks like well... a solid FPS with linear progression but set in more open environments. One thing I would criticise is the lack of enemies, it would have been much cooler if there were say 3 times as more then I saw - it felt very... desolate?
it was funny how all of you hardcore duke nukem fans kept saying how this game would be awesome etc.
yet you forgot that this game wasn't developed by 3drealms anymore.

If that video was actually real gameplay, I fucking want that released. Gearbox or something that they also got all the older builds of DNF, I want them to release that one. That trailer looked fucking amazing, I don't care that it has 2001 looking graphics, I fucking want that game.
it's exactly how a modern duke nukem should play

it was entirely pre-rendered

Why, when games like HL1 look better and ran fine in real-time. Plus it was 2001...
Serious Sam is the new Duke Nukem. I actually like Sam more so that isn't a bad thing for me. Cancelling my preorder due to this piece of shit boring demo and I'm going to place it on Serious Sam.
The demo left a very bad impression on me, although I never really had any high expectations going in to it. It's a darn shame that this could be the last Duke Nukem game and if it's anything like this demo, it probably will be.
