They seem to have missed the point. Duke is more of a satire of the genre, rather than a game that should be taken seriously
I liked it. I thought it had that old school game feel to it. Which I like.
it was funny how all of you hardcore duke nukem fans kept saying how this game would be awesome etc. yet you forgot that this game wasn't developed by 3drealms anymore.
From what I understand from a EGM interview with the CEO/Founder of Gearbox, most of the development team consists of ex-3D Realms employees. So you could consider that 3D Realms is still working on it in the spiritual sense.
They seem to have missed the point. Duke is more of a satire of the genre, rather than a game that should be taken seriously
Uh, no. Duke as a game is 100% serious. Just because it's a comedical "I AM KICKASS" game doesn't make it satire. At no point does it actually make fun of other games, gameplay mechanics or similar, because it is fully serious on that part of the game. It's comedy, not satire or parody.
You know what would still make this game playable? Mod ability. We then could have someone mod the game so we can have unlimited weapons and other tweaks.
The first level was good, the second one sucked dick. However, i didn't have high expectations and i knew it was going to be shit.
At no point does it actually make fun of other games...
"I aint afraid of no Quake!" "That's one Doomed space marine!"
I canceled my pre-order purely because I need to hold back as much money as possible for a new car. I thought it was quite good. May have been in development for 13 years, but I've only been waiting for the last 2. It sets out what it wants to: it's loud, brash and very silly.
"I aint afraid of no Quake!" "That's one Doomed space marine!"
That's not Duke Nukem Forever. Also that's references. That's not it making fun of the games.
I liked the first level, I thought the drawing on the whiteboard and some other things were pretty cool, shows that they put some real effort in to the game that there are silly distractions like that. The second level was mediocre though, and I can't kill the gunship. I've shot five rockets and two bombs at it one after the other and it won't go down. What am I doing wrong?
Theres an ammo crate next to the heavy gun. Reload the rocket launcher with it to take the gunship out.
