Are you one of those idiots who have all that screen space but have nothing on their desktop?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zafr40bd4kdw5ad/Screenshot%202013-12-01%2022.03.28.png actually, all my files that are important are on the desktop, but on the start screen is secondary shit so I don't have to minimize whatever to start a program that and so the desktop don't look like total ass, looks nice in the metro menu to have games, and I minimize shit when I use folders anyways etc [editline]1st December 2013[/editline]
i dont want another anything i want something new [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] i dont get why people do this. why wouldnt you want quick easy access to files and folders
quick access to the files, instead of minimizing and moving shit, then maximizing, 1 button, 1 click, bam and isn't windows 8 "Something new?"
Maybe this will make my dipshit school stop buying computers with Windows 7 on them and replacing it with XP. My 8th grade art teacher had a brand new Windows 7 PC in her classroom, and the next day i saw it running XP.

My 8th grade art teacher had a brand new Windows 7 PC in her classroom, and the next day i saw it running XP.
Don't forget that unlike most people they can't pirate en masse. They are paying upwards of $100000 for a volume licensing contract. Also, the fuck are you doing in school that justifies a need for 7? You're either working on assignments, writing reports or browsing.
Because people feared the same thing for Windows 98 and by the time XP was all over the place nobody was trying to exploit 98 anymore.
Because everyone had moved from 98? XP still holds a massive market share, so to think people won't make viruses is very very naive.

My school would rather replace a currently existing OS on those computers with an outdated and soon to be unsupported OS that is inferior in most ways to 7 and 8. This is actually not the primary tactic they use, they'd rather keep us on 8-10 year old hardware that is CONSTANTLY being sent to their tech support guys to be repaired than buy new hardware. To add to the ass backwardness, they're spending over $100K to have a commercial fiber optic network installed next year due to complaints of slow computers, when it has more to do with the computers that are still running single core Celerons and have less than 1GB of ram. Doesn't help that my school is rated one of the best in this part of the state.
I feel really old because I remember when Windows XP was first released, and downloading it on my shotgunned 56k dialup connection
Reported for warez
Isn't XP still really widely used in East Asia?
Mostly in China, if i am not mistaken.
Because everyone had moved from 98? XP still holds a massive market share, so to think people won't make viruses is very very naive.
My highschool was running 98se until I graduated in 2008. Nobody ever complained that it was a problem.
My school would rather replace a currently existing OS on those computers with an outdated and soon to be unsupported OS that is inferior in most ways to 7 and 8.
Because they are under a license contract. They can't just scatter random Windows 7 or 8 machines around when the guy at the service bench isn't certified for servicing them. Microsoft could void the service contract. He could lose his job.

[t]http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/filepicker%2F2q229y86QF2niTayPpfa_padded-room.jpg[/t] seriously though, it's insanely obvious as to why 7 is better than xp, fuck, this thread alone is exactly why it shouldn't even be used any more.
Perhaps you should stop implying that I'm some spoiled fuck who can upgrade every six months if he wanted but can't be assed.
umm, a new windows isn't released every 6 months actually, more like years, it's only 80-100$ for an upgrade too and I'm a spoiled fuck because I have windows 8?
With what money, asshole?
if it makes you feel any better though, I will give you my windows 7 key, I'm not using it anyways, and it'll be a huge upgrade for you
Ok, I'm just going to stop replying if you're going to act like that then. but fuck sake, just because you have xp doesn't mean everyone else should.
You're the one who just called me a disconnect because I didn't have a new machine and use an OS that is still actively used. You are the one who is hardcore grinding your gears because the OS is still being used. If only you knew about the operating systems other than Windows that have not seen patches for decades but still hold up parts of the world's commerce. I'm done int his thread.
I'm done in this thread.
If only XP had drivers for that mic, maybe you could have dropped it.

Surem there are some exceptions like programming for X not existing, but jesus christ dude. and hey, you're the one who said "are you one of those idiots" you don't even know shit about windows 7 or 8 but you're going to berate it?
This is MIPS we're talking about, old is his thing.
I understand the fascination with outdated (different from old) technology but there's no way I would depend on any of it
With what money, asshole? Perhaps you should stop implying that I'm some spoiled fuck who can upgrade every six months if he wanted but can't be assed.
Won't update to make sure all his personal files is safe, but will gladly spend money on old shit no one cares about. (Also if you want a free windows 7 key pm ok, I'm never gonna use all these keys I have (Linux for life))
This is MIPS we're talking about, old is his thing.
dont knock it coal is just fine theres no need for this "solar" or "wind" and "nuclear" bullshit it all makes power just the same
dont knock it coal is just fine theres no need for this "solar" or "wind" and "nuclear" bullshit it all makes power just the same
we should totally go back to horsepower [t]http://cloverlandponiesandzoos.com/images/white_horses_with_wedding_carriage.jpg[/t] look at all that horse power lol get on my level NERDS
My highschool was running 98se until I graduated in 2008. Nobody ever complained that it was a problem.
Speaking of old OS'es. My high school shop class had a pc with '95 on it even though all the computers were xp. That computer though was user for precision plasma cutter.
Although Windows XP has been superseded by versions 7 and 8 of Microsoft's flagship operating system, the older software is still widely used. Market research figures suggests about one-third of PCs still run XP.
Even BBC pretends Vista never happened.
Also, the fuck are you doing in school that justifies a need for 7? You're either working on assignments, writing reports or browsing.
Ho ly Shit
Well I've got great news for you then

Security & Compliance Risks: Unsupported and unpatched environments are vulnerable to security risks. This may result in an officially recognized control failure by an internal or external audit body, leading to suspension of certifications, and/or public notification of the organization’s inability to maintain its systems and customer information.
Oh that's just dandy. So if you choose to not to move on their next product, they can outright publicly smear your business for that? That's not cool at all. I understand they will simply drop support but putting their customers under actual pressure is quite ugly.
Oh that's just dandy. So if you choose to not to move on their next product, they can outright publicly smear your business for that? That's not cool at all. I understand they will simply drop support but putting their customers under actual pressure is quite ugly.
Microsoft wants XP dead. They wanted it dead years ago. Those that are Microsoft Certified are already willing to move any systems they can control off XP as any vulnerability can be exploited and can not be stopped after the kill date.
Are you one of those idiots who have all that screen space but have nothing on their desktop?
People do this because on modern operating systems after hitting the windows key you can just type in the name of your application. Its like having a one button run prompt at your finger tips instead of having a cluttered desktop and having to remember where you left that icon. Much like having a large database you can make a query against instead of having a huge excel spreadsheet you cant do fuckall with.
Don't forget that unlike most people they can't pirate en masse. They are paying upwards of $100000 for a volume licensing contract. Also, the fuck are you doing in school that justifies a need for 7? You're either working on assignments, writing reports or browsing.
There are several other advantages to having a modern operating system, especially as a systems administrator. such as getting support for modern applications that interface with content that changes (see: easily installing web browsers with html5 support). Better hardware support, more efficient resource handling, better and less annoying security (see: integrated MSE/windows defender) and other quality of life benefits. Not to mention it is easier as an administrator to support a current product, being able to receive active support from a support line is a great benefit. Licensing for expansion is not near impossible, and you have higher network compatibility with unlike devices. Ontop of that, your end user experience increases as people can be familiar with what they have at home, and if they have an older system at home, they gain valuable experience and familiarity with current systems that can help them at another job, or at home when they finally decide to upgrade. All these benefits are certainly worth their license cost, even if they were close to your laughable $100,000 mark for any office that would have enough employees to find that a tough decision. Schools get a huge discount on volume licensing so they are out of the question for that price point. Your average midsize business would spend about $15,000 for client operating system license for about 80 users for a VLK. And maybe around $5,000 for their server operating system costs. VLKs in that range also include software assurance, meaning that they can upgrade for FREE when the next operating system version comes out.
XP will always be my favourite OS. It's the OS that I learned the most with and the OS I have the most memories with, rushing to get home to go online and chat with my friends on msn or having a late night gaming session. I even remember making my first program in visual basic. I switched from XP to 7 in late 2009, my 20th birthday being in january of 2010 means XP was with me all through my teenage years.
