Can't seem to cut people into pieces. What gives.
Just in case someone with a spotty internet connection wants to play, don't buy it.
The game won't run unless you're connected to the internet.

Jesus Christ.
Port runs pretty badly for me. Ran into a gamebreaking bug about 30-45 minutes in where I'd get slammed into an invisible clock tower, followed by Raiden lying in the air with an extremely low-res skybox and the game not progressing at all:

Also the game apparently has issues with certain monitors which locks it at 24fps once you go above 720p, while my rig should easily get 60 all around. Heard they were working on a patch for this, so I guess I'll wait for that to hit before I continue.

If your fuel cell gauge is yellow you can't. Invest in fuel cells early.
Went to the customization screen and when I went back in game it forced me to start the game again. Yeah. Bugs.

Oh god, seriously? Hopefully they'll fix that later on, that's rather despicable.

Thanks Kojima
The game doesn't have any graphical options besides "Low/Med/High," anti aliasing, texture filtering and resolution options. It runs at 60 on medium on my GTS 450 however at the beginning tutorial you get unlimited blade mode, so chopping a body into like 600 parts can make the game choppy until you disengage blade mode but in general it runs really well. Pre rendered cutscenes tho :|
Unless connectivity is an actual issue for you, I would say buy it. It's super good.

Oh so that's why it dropped me out without warning when my router shat itself for a second.

Seems to be a bug with the Steam API, not some sort of intended DRM. Hold yer horses before starting a crusade.

I really hope so. Having always online DRM on a port this fine is like taking a shit on a filet mignon.

well
I'm a big fan of the neo cold war thriller stuff MGS has going on, but I'm not a massive fan of hack n slash.
Is the story in this good enough for me to enjoy it?

It's Kojima.
Do you enjoy the other MGS stories?, it references MGS4 with regards to Patriots filter and SOP system war economy etc etc.
I think I'll just buy this for PS3. I know the always-online DRM is probably just a bug, but my PC probably won't run it and the PS3 version is a bit cheaper.
Plus I don't want to download 25 GB.
Does it matter I've not played any of the the other MG series other than the first MGS?

Not really.
Still waiting for MGS3 and 4 to come to PC before playing this. One of these days...

hahahahahaa
Mexican outfit + box / barrel = perfection
try it
I can't seem to fix the black borders I have around the screen on a 1920x1080 resolution.
Tried overscaling for every herz setting i could put on the monitor but it's still there.
Can't really play it like this, anyone else got that?

Well MGS3 you can already play on an emulator. Now MGS4 is a long time away.
All that is left is hope for a MGS5 pc release.

If you haven't bought the outfit yet, here's a gif of what happens
The game is amazing. Never had so much fun in an action game before.
The cutscenes and the choreography in the boss battles is impressive.

But it's not a hack n slash. It's a spectacle precision fighter like devil may cry, bayonetta, etc.

It was a bug and it has been fixed.
It's a character action game
I hope to god the good sales and reception of the port convince them to bring Vanquish or bayonetta to PC.
I already own both vanquish and bayonetta, but if they appear on pc I'd buy them again in a heartbeat, platinum deserves all my money.
Also, MGR is super hype
I still think spectacle fighter sounds better than character action game, that sounds silly vague, whereas fighting with a spectacle is pretty obvious.
I hope it's done well enough, I want MGS5 to come to PC too. And if that does well too we can hopefully expect previous titles too.
