Not even the best music from that game imo.

you know what would be better than a FF7 remake? A FF6 remake.
Yeah, Terra's theme is awesome.
I picked that one because it's the most memorable for me. It plays when you fly around in the world of ruin, and I spent a fuckload of time there
I like Gogo's theme too

I can't say much for the FF soundtrack, but I've heard enough of the Skyrim OST to have some thoughts on it
Considering a good deal of the exploration and town music (IE a great deal of the game) is either directly from, or slightly changed from previous games, there's not a whole lot of alteration as far as that half of the music goes, and whilst the previous soundtracks aren't to be written off, they certainly do pale in comparison to the freshly written music. But they can't go writing a new piece for every square mile of the game now, can they.
The fighting and action music really isn't what I'd hoped for though, like Oblivion where the fighting tracks begin with a high volume sting rather than easing in or intensifying, all the tracks quickly become less background music for the action and more just the cue to get your sword out. It becomes tedious and you pretty much ignore it after a while. If there's one thing I'm hoping for in the next Elder scrolls, it's situational music. So you don't fight a single spider to the same music as a horde of nord zombies who just woke up for the first time in god knows how long.
First time I fought a dragon and a version of the main theme came on was amazing, like I was actually playing the trailer. Then it happened for every dragon. If they saved it for the end it would've been truly awesome.
Of course, the jewels of the show are the main menu and trailer music, plus songs for places like Sovengarde. They're absolutely brilliant, mostly because of the singing voices of the male vocalists. The last few seconds of the Dragonborn trailer was worth replaying a few times, just because it shows off just how good they are without any music. That and how, If you look at what's being said in the language, it's an actual song that rhymes and makes musical sense, in a language that has never existed.
And in the case of sovengarde, I stayed there for quite a while just to listen and take in the (literally) heavenly atmosphere, It's quite something. Few games offer something like that, with music being absolutely key.
To help demolish this wall, how about a composite song:

I feel like games should have to be at least 5 years old to be considered for the classic hall of fame.
Skyrim JUST came out, there's still hype for it because it's the newest elder scrolls and it's very popular. When the next one comes out, will Skyrim still be popular, like Morrowind is? Would people still vote it in? I doubt it.
edit:I'm an idiot this is for classical music not classic music
FF7 is definitely deserving, that music will never be forgotton. I've played a little of skyrim and the music's just extra noise that's not unique at all to me.

God yes. All the music in that game was great, every track. One of my favourite games, too.
Final Fantasy VIII had a pretty amazing soundtrack too.

If there is anything good to be said about FFVIII, it's the music. It's one of the few good things I remember about it.

Ah, thank you!
Something I just remembered... By the time they remake FF7 (if they actually get to do it...) the ingame graphics will probably be the same as the video sequences in the game :v:

We've been able to match the pre-rendered FMVs for a while. :v:

Even the PS2 could give a decent accept tbh.

I have no idea where my edit button went.
I have a feeling that they were chosen because of "Dragonborn" and "One Winged Angel".
In my opinion, there's nothing too special about FF7 soundtrack. Of course, they're INCREDIBLY immersive IN THE GAME.
But I don't think It the bests of the bests to be considered a classic, I'd rather FF6 soundtrack or FF8.
Fuck, FF8 soundtrack kills every fucking thing with the exception of FF6.
Plus, Skyrim?
My eardrums didn't catch anything special aside from the main theme.
But It's their decision, what the hell could we do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Final Fantasy 7 yes, Skyrim no.

attempt?
PS2 could easily trump the FMVs, no problem.
They don't really fit in to the "classical" category, but if you ask me the Metroid Prime games have some of the best soundtracks around.
The only two that matter.

Nah, the PS2 couldn't do this. When we get to FF9 it's completely out of reach.
