After reading through this thread and a few others where Gone Home is mentioned, I still fail to see why this game causes a shit storm whenever it's mentioned. Is it really from just some awards they got or am I missing something?
Short game with effectively zero replayability that costs two to four times more than other indie games. Gone Home won awards over the comparable game, The Stanley Parable, and it won awards over other games with much more replyability and/or story, which many people feel Gone Home doesn't deserve.
They act like they're hot shit and Steve Gaynor somehow thinks working on a dlc for a subpar bioshock game has given him all the credit he needs forever in the gaming industry. It hasn't.
if you're talking about Minerva's Den that one was actually pretty damn good
Thats the main reason people should stay the fuck away, System Shock did a similar narrative back in 94 or whatever. That and the fact they charged like, $30 for 1 hour of game how the fuck is that acceptable in any way, shape or form.
Oh god system shock did something similar 20 years ago you guys better stay away from this It's 2 hours on average and costs $20 that totally mathematically works out to $30 an hour Ok
Oh god system shock did something similar 20 years ago you guys better stay away from this It's 2 hours on average and costs $20 that totally mathematically works out to $30 an hour Ok
20 bucks for 2 hours is still 10 buck per hour. There are much longer and better games you can get around that price
because it won "best PC game" undeserving award for a game that is ok
I still don't get it. How is it the game's fault that someone decided to call it the best PC game?
Thats the main reason people should stay the fuck away, System Shock did a similar narrative back in 94 or whatever.
I'm gonna stay the fuck away from first person shooters because Doom did it back in 1992.
the game does what it does, it doesn't rip people off
Hah, funny story about that, actually: My housemate bought this game as soon as it came out (slightly discounted to $18 for pre-order) because he's a big indie game fan and had high expectations for Gone Home based on all the hype it was getting. As soon as he beat it, he came over to my room and told me he just had to rant about how ripped-off he felt and how shitty this game is for the money. He spent nearly $20 on a game that didn't even last two hours for him, and one that he felt was extremely boring, cliched, and anticlimactic. And he was saying all this before the 'hate storm' took off for the game. Not everyone complaining about the game are people who haven't played it. I looked at your Steam profile and you don't even own it. How can you say this game isn't a ripoff or a disappointment?
I'm gonna stay the fuck away from first person shooters because Doom did it back in 1992.
Doom revolutioniazed the game industry. Gone home was just boring
how could you miss the 90's the music was garbage and the fashion was scary bad
It was my childhood and I've always had a huge nostalgia for it. Life was easy, some music was good, but we had all the hits from previous decades to listen to. I never paid attention to fashion. I'm the type of guy who watches an episode of friends from the 90s and feels depressed because it doesn't look like the peaceful and perfect place it was in my childhood mind.
20 bucks for 2 hours is still 10 buck per hour. There are much longer and better games you can get around that price
Ok lol
It's ok to dislike a game. It's ok to hate a game. It's ok to voice your opinion on a game, joke about it like "gone homo" and "not a game".
Maybe I'm getting disproportionately angry, but this picture absolutely infuriates me. People gave you an award, you fucking fucks, look like you appreciate it. At least the cunt with the cock looks like he might possibly be trying to make a shitty faux-serious (but still deserving of a punch) joke face, but the cunt with the cunt (and the red star hat, nice) is LITERALLY LOOKING DOWN HER NOSE AT US. Fucking fuck fuck it's a good thing they wear glasses because if I ever saw them I think I'd spit in their eye. People thought enough of your fucking game to give it an award, at least try to smile, you shits. [editline]11th March 2014[/editline] Also, the very first Pokémon games from 1996 had an abandoned house where you pieced together the backstory from reading journal entries.
This is not ok. This is the point where you should start to consider what the hell you are doing with your life, getting angry at something as meaningless as this to the point where you are basically exploding with rage. Last time I checked, Facepunch(generally speaking, we are no hivemind) hated the generic military shooter and wanted Devs to try something new. They do and get made fun of or flamed to hell and back. It's not a game in the traditional sense but then, are Telltales Point & Clicks games? Some of the best ones I ever played IMO. It's ok to hate but please atleast be reasonable. I never played Gone Home simply because it didn't seem interesting but the amount of hate this game has gotten is pathetic. Go and throw your hate at Eutechnyx(Ride to Hell: Retribution) or the Bad Rats creators if you want to point and laugh at the "bad guys" of gaming.
Well, good for them. As a sort of exploratory artpiece it was good in my opinion, just good. The biggest problem I had with it is that if it was in any other medium of entertainment, for instance if it was an indie movie, then I don't think it would have been nearly as well-received. But since it's a "game" it ends up being innovative, controversial and hip and of course critics love that shit. I don't feel like Gone Home is a deserving of any awards though nor is deserving of it's hate.
maybe if i call them nerds people will ignore my lack of an argument
well, what's your argument???? that gone home doesn't deserve all this money and all these awards because... gglrufgghlgggelle.e blrrlrufgghkk... vomit?
well, what's your argument???? that gone home doesn't deserve all this money and all these awards because... gglrufgghlgggelle.e blrrlrufgghkk... vomit?
Nice putting words in my mouth, please continue to fight an imaginary argument it's entertaining.
Nice putting words in my mouth, please continue to fight an imaginary argument it's entertaining.
why are you so touchy about people pointing out that others are being overly weird and negative. then again, you seem to just go out on 'whoa hey don't critique people' tangents with people say stuff like that http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1360845&p=43835389&viewfull=1#post43835389 (oops i accidentally posted something comedic from tumblr at first what the poo)

If award show's are giving awards to those undeserving of it, it is the award show at fault.

I can remember pretty much my whole playthrough of Gone Home, but only a couple of the more interesting moments in Stanley Parable
the game is not very special but the game got awards and critical acclaim because its about gay girls which makes it a Very Special Game tm, its a fucking awesome idea and im upset that i didnt do it first
I don't get it, what's this game even about, exactly

It's more of a pointing out the dissonance in the argument because he's pretty much using the exact same tactics as the people he's detracting. I mean if I wanted to go out and say fuck you to people, I'd just do that instead of taking the time to make my posts look like part of the discussion.

[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
Hey bad rats is a good game!
except we're talking about a game that is objectively not broken thats only real flaws are subjective shit like the story, the gameplay-to-dollar worth, graphics, content, etc. nice hyperbole tho it totally blew up combine's argument!
You have the musical tastes of a dead fish.
Not saying you aren't allowed, just saying taking the precieved high ground while doing it is really funny on its own.
why do people get the impression i'm taking the high ground, i really don't get this. like, all i do is attempt to be funny. that's literally all i'm doing in these threads, but for some reason it's me taking the moral high ground because i'm joking at people instead of with them??? [editline]11th March 2014[/editline] why do i say i'm not taking the moral high ground? because it's fucking videogames, there's no moral high ground to take unless you're talking about consumer rights or something.

Find new material if it's a joke cos jeeeez
I'm honestly just sick of seeing every Gone Home thread go to five pages of people doing nothing but bitching. "Don't click the thread then." I don't need to click the thread to know what is going on, I've seen it in every other Gone Home thread already and I see it from the page count and the dozen of boxes in the subforum. Fucking get over it guys. We have a lot of vocal people who really don't like Gone Home. We get it. It's not going to stop news outlets from posting news or the developers from putting it on other platforms because they don't give a shit about a dozen or so angry kids on Facepunch.
