It could be in landscape mode.
They should make a smaller one and build a phone into it - that way you could carry it around in your pocket and get phone calls)
I remember when people were asking if the 3G allowed them to use it as a phone. :v:

Also I hope it's an iPad 2S, that way I won't have to worry about feeling outdated with my iPad 2 that I bought last year. That always sucks, and it leads to missing out on new games and apps that only work well on the newer device, like the iPad 1 owners who have to deal with buying an app only to find out that it doesn't work on theirs despite the store page saying it is supported.
My sister just got her iPad 2 for Christmas. She's going to be pissed. :v:
We just bought 15 ipads at work and they release a new one a month later :suicide:
Its in landscape mode so the home button is off to the left or right side.
Yeah cause apple decided to stop the os from increasing the space between dock icons when in landscape mode just to troll people on the internet.
quote from the IGN article:
"Beyond that, there is a small detail that reveals something that most weren't even expecting. It's easy to see that that there is no home button below the display. While some may think that this is because the tablet is in landscape mode, the spacing between the icons tell a different story.
When in landscape, the icons are spread out further to accommodate the extra width. In this instance, the icons are placed exactly how they would be if the iPad was in portrait mode.
As long as Apple isn't throwing a huge curve ball, it looks like physical home button is going the way of the dodo. As far as an alternative, the company will probably continue to use the space under the display to launch home button actions, but it will be done using capacitive technology, a move that closely resembles what Palm had done with its smartphones and HP's tablet."

Now, I'm not an expert, but as far as I am aware, that is massively illegal under UK law, as it's false advertising, and breaching the Sale of Goods Act. If a company says that this will work on your device, it must, or the product or service (I'd assume an app is a service) is unfit for purpose, and thus must be replaced with a working one or refunded. I'd imagine that it's illegal under most of the Eurozone, too.
Ipad 2s: now with 128 more megabytes of ram
dear apple
i dont have any money
why cant i steal from your stores
-snip-
I did a bit of digging and from what I can see they are not dropping the home button but I can see why you/IGN think they are.
My iPad2:

While the bubbles do get very close to matching they don't line up perfectly indicating that yes there has been a change in resolution. However, there is still quite a bit of proof that they kept the home button.

If ether of those pictures are legitimate it looks like the iPad3 is keeping the home button and that picture is in landscape. Nevertheless, I would not put it past apple to want to kill it off.
I can't wait to run out and buy this so I can use all the new features they've added.
Good, now I can throw my iPad 2 in the trash.
why can't they just upgrade the software and not come out with iwhatever 1234567890
why can't they just upgrade the software and not come out with iwhatever 1234567890
that won't make the investors happy!
Saw a bunch of people circlejerking over this on MacRumors because it's ~the new thing I must have else I'll hate my parents~
when asked for a good reason they mentioned the ~super high res retina display~
they of course have not a single clue what that means
why can't they just upgrade the software and not come out with iwhatever 1234567890
They do that too?
iOS 5 is available for the 1st Gen iPad. They leave some things out though, citing 'technical restraints', like for Siri.
'technical restraints'.
90% of which are bullshit, is the iPad 1 incapable of recording a wav and sending it off to the Siri server? Really?
90% of which are bullshit, is the iPad 1 incapable of recording a wav and sending it off to the Siri server? Really?
As far as I'm aware, the app that was bought out and modified into Siri was available on iOS, Andorid and Blackberry, so it's definitely not technical constraints.
Would be nice if it was illegal to give bullshit reasons for things, especially when it's not true.

Its obviously a case of "If it runs all the software the new model does, why the hell would they upgrade?" So they release unoptimized versions of iOS for their older hardware and cut out chunks of new functionality, when you know they COULD make it run better than it does.
I see no point in this, especially when tablets can't replace laptops.
New AppleTV too hopefully! I heard they were gonna rebrand it the iTV.. which is funny if you live in the UK :)
What exactly is AppleTV? (Or iTV)
