Are we really going to call every class and team-based multiplayer shooter a TF2 clone now? Because that's ridiculously stupid.
I don't get the harsh criticism this game seems to be receiving. It looks like fun. I have faith in Blizzard to make it fun and unique.
The dwarf is the engineer, obviously. And it obviously goes apeshit if you dare to destroy his guns. Pretty in-character. The robot-thing is a transforming mecha who trades firepower for mobility. Expected as much. The angel girl is the local doctor, because that's the sort of thing you can expect angels to do. Priority target The huge armored guy/thing with the hammer is obviously going to be slow and armored as fuck. He's a MMO tank. Gang up on him Totally-not-Gray-Fox is going to be all about stealth and ninja maneouvers. Calling it now. The archer guy is the Sniper with the Huntsman equipped 24/7. He's gonna be nerfed And so on and so on and so on...
But how easy it this to understand without watching the trailer or being told? Especially if you don't have a very large amount of video game knowledge to boot there seems to be just way too many classes for it to be all that balanced. Instead of having classes with a definite role it's a lot more open, Which is good and bad, but it leaves room for useless classes. It gives room for tactics but you could do that even easier with less classes. I feel like the pollution of classes is going to lead to REALLY bad team communication too. That guy that turns into a turret, a character with teleporters and a guy that build turrets, they literally turned the engineer into 3 different classes. What is even the point in that? I'm usually pyro or medic and healing EVERYONE or defending engies. It's very simple. But for people that like going engineer there are 3 classes, and that leaves for... in my opinion, less options, because you need to play a totally different class just to do things 1 could.
Man, I remember when Blizzard was teasing their new game to be "a whole new franchise" and then it turned out to be Hearthstone and everyone was like "THAT ISN'T NEW IT'S STILL WARCRAFT YOU CLODS." Nice to see Blizzard has an original game to show this time around, and not even a tease for it. People have already said it, but it reminds me of Monday Night Combat way more than Team Fortress 2, and I'm ok with that as long as it's as fun as MNC.
4 years away from 20 years of the same 3 franchises
I'm pretty sure they're less classes and more characters as in, max one per team
At least they actually showed gameplay instead of just a CGI trailer.
Yeah there are some obvious similarities to TF2 specifically, but it is mostly another team based shooter, not a clone. It actually looks like a ton of fun. The class that can turn into a turret seems especially cool
But how easy it this to understand without watching the trailer or being told? Especially if you don't have a very large amount of video game knowledge to boot
You don't need to play videogames to know that all dwarfes are engineers, most combat robots transform, all angels are related to health and that space ninjas wear futuristic armor and carry katanas in bright colors. Granted, not all of them are obvious (Like the overweight Raider or the space cowboy), but most of them are playing on character tropes that have been around for so long that everyone's familiar with them (Especially the dwarf and the angel)
I feel like the pollution of classes is going to lead to REALLY bad team communication too. Think of it in the same way dota hon or whatever other action rts does... a lot of heroes accomplish the same purpose but in many different ways and that will be the same case with this game, too. action rtses have tons of characters with multiple different purposes too and that doesn't cause any communicational error, it's just getting used to the capabilities of your team mates and playing around it. This game clearly isn't directed to casual gamers and you're acting like it is, tbh.
It looks pretty fun Imo
Well in it's defense, they literally took payload from Tf2. [t]http://i.imgur.com/h2gs0I6.png[/t]
You mean an escort mission with an invulnerable object? Because that's been done before, hundreds of times. None of TF2's earlier gamemodes, or really any of TF2's stock gamemodes in general, are original to TF2.
I saw someone complaining about Blizzard's art style getting old, and to be honest I think this is the best looking game they'll put out if it stays looking as good as the trailer. Diablo III and Starcraft II have always been the more "real" looking games while Warcraft has always been more cartoony and silly, but because Warcraft is so big people kinda put the other two by the wayside when they talk about Blizzard's art. Overwatch looks better than Warcraft's style imo, and the trailer doesn't look insanely pre-rendered either.
TF2 meets Firefall, with a pinch of Monday Night Combat. Still interesting to play, at least for a beta test...
I guess it's one to keep an eye out for. I expect its model to be closer to TF2 than DOTA though, and that's not something I'd like.
Looks like it might be fun.
Well in it's defense, they literally took payload from Tf2. [t]http://i.imgur.com/h2gs0I6.png[/t]
There are tons of games which have Capture the Flag game mode and nobody is accusing anyone of copying the idea.

Stop thinking of it as "oh look at all the classes". There are two factions with a set of unique characters that fit similar roles. It's a very easy to understand system if you stop thinking it's like TF2 (it has very few similarities). Widowmaker and Hanzo for example are very clearly cross faction rivals. They're both 'the sniper', but they have different utility, enough to be different characters with their own playstyles. Reinhardt and Winston are also very clear examples of this. They both fill the role of 'the tank', much like the heavy does, but they do it in different fashions. One seems to be a rather mobile smash and grab type character, while the other is very clearly designed for being in the center of shit 24/7. Bastion and Pharah are your 'assault' class, with Bastion being high rate of fire low mobility, and Pharah being quite the opposite. You need to start thinking outside of the mechanics of Team Fortress because you're not helping yourself at all by staying misinformed.
So what? instead of all classes on 1 team its 2 teams with 2 types of classes? I guess I was just being super biased then, that makes a LOT more sense. even if that isn't true though I'm mostly basing this off my opinion of games and such and experience with the like, 1 class based game I've played outside of NS.
oh lord the comments on the trailer

Maybe in the fluff, but I don't think there are going to be team restrictions for specific characters.
I don't think there are two factions. Seems like a huge clusterfuck with all those classes. It's also not really apparent if any of them is a counter to another.
Valve took Dota Blizzard takes TF2 Well it looks okay, I am signed up for the beta.
nice to see that the robot monk is as useless as the monk is in Diablo 3
The artstyle looks like a mess imo.
gibe de beta b0ss
It's a team fortress 2 clone that looks like a Pixar movie
i can't really think of any reason why this is bad
