Lots of pointless flashy bullshit. No thanks.
Really doesn't look all that good. Typical PhysX though; add shit just for the sake of adding shit. And even then they'll probably find a way to bugger it up and make it run terrible anyway. Arkham Asylum did it pretty good, but like everything else, this is just more of the same I think.
PhysX was created by Ageia. Basically, they were creating a physics engine that was capable of all those things. The end goal of such an engine was to sell their own hardware. It was basically a PCI slot processing card dedicated to processing the physics stuff. Nvidia bought them out, and offloaded the processing onto their GPUs. The problem is that instead of using PhysX for something useful, they just use it as a marketing gimmick. It's why all the particle effects are so ridiculously overdone. There's no way you could justify the gimmick unless it's so obscene and in your face all the time.
the shit people really want to see like fluid dynamics is way too hardware intensive right now, even in very small, very low fidelity implementations (like in Borderlands 2), it absolutely demolishes framerates, so they just stick to this tacked on particle spam shit games that were built with PhysX in mind like the Arkham games and Borderlands 2 utilize it extremely well and it does add a lot to those games
I read the thread first and thought that you guys were overreacting with "too much particles, can't see" Then I watched the video

PhysX is literally just a physics library like Havok or Bullet :v:
Would be great with adjustable settings
You can turn off physx in the options menu. I don't get why everyone is complaining. If you don't like it, turn it off.
floating glowing dots: the game fire looks ridiculously better with physx off [editline]20th March 2013[/editline]
You can turn off physx in the options menu.
It would look much cooler if they toned it down a lot.
but then it wouldn't be as noticeable, and nvidia wants to sell this concept
Mirrors Edge was one of the best implimentations.
Just some plastic bits and glass shattering. No actual gameplay altering features use PhysX. Like Battlefield 3 would never be able to use PhysX since then only nvidia users could run it. Since the destruction is well.. gameplay altering. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline]
I'm still waiting for a game that implements all this stuff
That's an early video of Euphoria? Which Rockstar games have had for quite some time now. Also those star wars games. Shame the licencing is apparently expensive as hell and the team behind Euphoria are the ones who get to implement it into your engine of choice. I.e. you never get to actually touch anything other than setting it up for your models and stuff. If I remember correctly. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Wops, quoted myself.
Oh it's those 'glitter' particles that every physx game is using these days. When the heck are they going to use it for effects other than those and fire? Other than the destruction that it was originally intended for when it came about.
That game looks stiff and awful, effects aside
No idea why they were so slow in that trailer, it's usually very fast and fluid, here's a video I made in a drunken stupor of some melee gameplay on a boss :v:
