Bandwagon would be just hating this game for the sake of it. We hate it because it's a bad game.
Did you play the game to know it's a bad game? I didn't and i'm not planing to, i'm not a fan of MMO games, but i don't think the game is bad. It's just bugged (a lot). [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] From what i can see, that is.
Bandwagon would be just hating this game for the sake of it. We hate it because it's a bad game.
To be entirely fair, most of Elspin's post are "it's not a bad game because x, y and z" and the rebuttals are all "it's just a bad game. shut up." It's not a bad game. It's just way overpriced.

Wouldn't you be buying an immense ammount of bad games?
No, most of his posts are "The game is good because I like it" and "You think the game is bad because bandwaggon"
In this thread I've mostly laid off posting the same things over again but 5 seconds in my post history proves you're objectively wrong. Common defense points are more interactive and varied quests right from the start that are voiced by in some cases amazing people, a massive variety of models for weapons and armor due to a neat style system, highly customizable characters, a solid crafting system, good pvp, and a dev team that's listened to their customers and made several massive changes at their request.
You need to play the game to know it's bad? Then what's the point of reviews? Wouldn't you be buying an immense ammount of bad games?
Reviews are generally unreliable - sometimes they're paid, sometimes they're influenced by friends (see the massive gone home fiasco), etc. Everyone agrees with this unless the review is bashing a game commonly disliked, ie here. Here's a better idea - watch gameplay videos, try it during beta when it's free or at a friend's house, etc.
So you have nothing going on for this game? Because voice acting is irrelevant, customization is laughable, the weapon models are unimaginative, the quests and crafting are the same ol', the devs don't listen to players requests(otherwise you'd have a freakign AH by now) and the PvP is just a bad Tera.
Reviews are generally unreliable - sometimes they're paid, sometimes they're influenced by friends (see the massive gone home fiasco), etc. Everyone agrees with this unless the review is bashing a game commonly disliked, ie here. Please, I've seen been watching this game from day one, like everyone else, I saw how bad it was beckoming as they were developing.
So you have nothing going on for this game? Because voice acting is irrelevant,
This statement literally makes me question your sanity, although it's certainly revealing. Remake half-life where all facial animation and dialogue is removed and replaced with text boxes and TRY and tell me that the changes were "irrelevant".
So watching someone's else play and giving you their impressions is not a review? What does it matter that they have voiced npcs? In the end most people will end up skipping the dialog because the vanity wears off.
I'm saying that watching the gameplay without other's impressions is better so you can do this crazy thing others are capable of called "forming your own opinion"
Does that change the fact that I watched how the game is played? If one were to just parrot what the player said, one would not have any opinion, unless it always watched the same player, in which case one would not be well informed about the game.
We're not talking about a single player game here, are we? What does it matter that they have voiced npcs? Hell, there are a lot of "bad" things about ESO that are apparently excusable in other Elder Scrolls games...
You could say the same about Skyrim. Hell, there are a lot of "bad" things about ESO that are apparently excusable in other Elder Scrolls games...
Still talking about two different genres. In a MMO you're meant to be interacting with players, so enriching the interaction with NPCs adds very little to the game.
We're not talking about a single player game here, are we? What does it matter that they have voiced npcs? In the end most people will end up skipping the dialog because the vanity wears off.
This is the fundamental difference in opinion we have on what makes a quality game - MMOs have been shit in a lot of ways for a long time because a huge portion of their players just want to zone out and grind rather than go on quests, explore, etc. I do skip some dialogue of course if the quest is a bit mundane but overall it's really improved the game for me. You're still doing the same thing Protocol7 said though, I give x reason I like the game you just go "no it's shit" with no reasoning as to why. Why is the customization bad, exactly? What's wrong with voice acting (especially when many of them are fantastic)? What's wrong with an MMO putting effort into making the content BEFORE the end game fun? Come up with some actual reasons
Does that change the fact that I watched how the game is played? Everyone, calm your tits.
Pretty much this. Morrowind on the Xbox took about 5 years to load areas, when I first bought Oblivion on the PC I didn't get very far before the game crashed. And Skyrim was promised to run a different engine and that the game wouldn't be nearly as buggy, but although it didn't crash, there were loads of glitches with the quests. Then an update was released and my game crashed every time I entered water, the only way I could get rid of the crashing was to reinstall my game and lose my save. Next time I buy a bethesda game I'm waiting a year after it comes out to buy it
Except it's still not Bethesda.
Still talking about two different genres. In a MMO you're meant to be interacting with players, so enriching the interaction with NPCs adds very little to the game.
This may be the case for WoW, but ESO is still "Elder Scrolls" in that it rewards those who pay attention to the world and explore every nook and cranny. When I think of interacting with people in an MMO and actually enjoying the player interaction, I'm usually playing with friends, and that's no less possible in ESO. For example, the most fun I've had with ESO is getting in a small squad of goons and ambushing players in Cyrodiil - this is just as fun as getting together with a group of buddies and running a dungeon in WoW or anything else.
I thought this was just another feature since you could do the same thing in Oblivion.
This is the fundamental difference in opinion we have on what makes a quality game - MMOs have been shit in a lot of ways for a long time because a huge portion of their players just want to zone out and grind rather than go on quests, explore, etc.
Yes that's MMO players for you, you know the BULK of people that play MMOs and isn't just playing for the vanity of Elder Scrolls? The people that are around AFTER the initial hype? It's THESE people you want to please if you want to make money. Try to please to other players and you'll just burn 200mil dollaridos.
I do skip some dialogue of course if the quest is a bit mundane but overall it's really improved the game for me. As in "you'd better expend your resources making other parts of the game better".
Why is the customization bad, exactly?
Customization isn't bad, the customization of this game is bad. The races are just different skin textures and heads. And the part that you get to customize is either facing away of the camera or hidden under gear.
What's wrong with voice acting (especially when many of them are fantastic)? What's wrong with an MMO putting effort into making the content BEFORE the end game fun? Come up with some actual reasons
Because that's not where you expend most of your time. You want to have a HUGE deal of endgame on launch because the players that REALLY bring you the money are going to blaze through the game to get there. And if when they get there they get bored, they're going to quit the game. And the people that take their time exploring will eventually get to max level and also quit because there's nothing else to do.
But anything is fun with friends. Using that as your point is a fallacy.
And ESO focuses on making the game enjoyable when you're flying solo. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
And ESO focuses on making the game enjoyable when you're flying solo. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Making MMOs enjoyable when you're alone never result into anything good.
Making MMOs enjoyable when you're alone never result into anything good.
And you said "MMOs are fun with friends" is a fallacy. So the game's crime is being enjoyable when you're playing alone, but hey, anything is fun with friends. Do you not see the problem? Unless you're implying MMOs are fun with pubbies, which is never true.
And you said "MMOs are fun with friends" is a fallacy. So the game's crime is being enjoyable when you're playing alone, but hey, anything is fun with friends.
another hole in the hull of the ESOtanic
Its actually called the Scrollocaust.
The game's crime is charging you monthly for a single player experience.
Riiiiiight, it doesn't advertise a gigantic PvP battleground, or public dungeons, guild functionality or anything. The game is not played exclusively singleplayer, it just turns the quest hub model into something a little more engaging.
But anything is fun with friends. Using that as your point is a fallacy.
Anything is fun with friends sure but a game putting special attention into encouraging and making teamwork more enjoyable is always good
Yes that's MMO players for you, you know the BULK of people that play MMOs and isn't just playing for the vanity of Elder Scrolls? The people that are around AFTER the initial hype? It's THESE people you want to please if you want to make money. Try to please to other players and you'll just burn 200mil dollaridos.
Or maybe there's a lot of people turned off of other MMOs who would like a game with more depth to it and that's the market they're going for?
They're putting a lot of time in something that you skip and I've never said that it's shit, I said that it's irrelevant. As in "you'd better expend your resources making other parts of the game better".
Already said I rarely skip it, bad reading.
Customization isn't bad, the customization of this game is bad. The races are just different skin textures and heads. And the part that you get to customize is either facing away of the camera or hidden under gear.
That's just visual customization of your character, you can hide your helmet if you wish, and your gear and character's attributes are highly customizable as well. You can play a tanky healer like a sort of paladin, you can play a more classic one in robes, you could even play a stealth healer if you really wanted to and I've seen that work pretty well in a couple raids. Being able to customize your character is really important to TES players and it's my favourite part of RPGs TES and otherwise.
Making your early game content enjoyable doesn't mean you can't have lots of awesome late game content, it just means your players won't get bored to death before hitting the max level. I'm 40/50 right now (though there's 10 veteran levels that take place in endgame content after that) and I'm not bored in the slightest, and have only been playing through 1/3 of the content (Daggerfall covenant specifically)
Its actually called the Scrollocaust.
I thought it was TESticular Cancer.
I guess you could say that the Elder Scrolls Online economy was falling into Oblivion.
I don't even care anymore, I just wanna enjoy the jokes.
Despite everyone bashing this, I just want to pipe in here; I bought the game a while ago and went into it with massive scepticism, most of my friends had moved to it from other MMOs, so I thought I would try it. My forethought of it was that (from news and forums) that it was awful and buggy shit. But going into it, I found it was a fun, great hack and slash with some awesome mechanics now and then. The only problem is, the more you play, the more you find unfinished, broken and buggy problems all throughout the game. Here are just a few things that I've experienced: - Falling through the world randomly (physics bugs?) and being shot into the skybox, forcing a restart of the game. - Picking up 'clutter' (cups etc) actually does nothing, only specific food objects does. - A lot of combat ranges are severely bugged, along with the auto targeting. You can be standing on top of targets and swinging like a madman, but completely missing (due to it using MMO targeting, not physical targeting) - "Phase worlds" as I call them, problems after doing certain things (dying in ways, the physics bugs), where you cannot see anyone, but they can see you, and you can't interact with anything. - Certain dungeons are phased when they shouldn't be (in my opinion), or bosses that are too powerful for their phase. Certain dungeons have bosses that use mechanics for a full group in a singleplayer phase. - EXTREMELY long conversations that cannot be skipped, even after seeing them once (looking at you, Prophet). - Resource nodes disappear, reappear, and sometimes have absolutely nothing on them (from other people harvesting maybe?) There is a tonne more problems I could list, and it doesn't surprise me this bug has persisted from beta, with the amount of gold spammers as well. It also explains how they went from selling 10k gold to 150k gold in under a week. Despite how much is wrong with it, I still play it because it's fun to waste time in, and has good gameplay (mostly, when you aren't getting shoved into shitty alternate dimensions). It's also definitely not worth it's price, and will most likely go F2P very fast if they don't fix shit like this.
Gonna be tough to narrow down my picks for Blunder of 2014 but ESO feels like it's a shoo-in. I mean, how incompetent do you have to be to leave something like this unpatched FROM BETA where it was no doubt reported endlessly by testers? This is EA levels of incompetence. [editline]18th April 2014[/editline]
I thought it was TESticular Cancer.
Mount TESuvius since it was agreed that the theme of disasters was fitting.
cannot wait for this game to crash and burn. maybe if it becomes f2p it'll be worth playing once in awhile, but right now, I'm not touching it with a 50 foot pole.
I wasn't even aware of this. It's buggy I give you that, but I'm enjoying it, my brother managed to get stuck in loading screens 4-5 times, and 2 of our quests bugged out, heck, even my main quest glitched. But it doesn't really halt our leveling, we just go somewhere else.
I thought it was TESticular Cancer.
More like TESaster. Or AtlanTES. But who cares, what matters is that the history repeats itself - first the sinking of HMS TORtanic, now this.
