Technically the combat was the same between DA2 and DA: O. It looked flashier but it played out pretty much the same. Really the only difference was that rogues could jump into combat instead of waddling into it. It catered to hack and slash fans with the animations, but if you stripped it away it was still the Origins system, especially on the PC since the pause feature was still available. There are a lot of things DA2 did wrong such as bland but colorful environments, lack of unique environments, lack of realistic dialogue/personalities of characters other than angst, etc. the actual combat mechanics wasn't one of them.
Didn't the faster animations make it so your dealt more damage in the same amount of time as you would in origins. Like say in DA2 in 10 seconds you hit 10 times while in DA:O in 10 seconds you hit 5 times. Also the cool downs regenerating instantly and the ones with their cool down at like 5 seconds kind of ruined it. In Origins it was like "ok so if I use this spell now it may not be back up for when I need it again so instead I'll use my companions spell which is almost the same and combined with another and then the second time I'll use that other spell after" In DA2 that didn't matter it was just "ok I used it, now I can use it again" and the pause feature become annoying because of these, in Origins you paused, thought out what you would do, un pause then watch as it happened then pause again. In DA2 you pause, click an attack for your team mates, un pause they do it instantly, pause again. It was just smashing space bar in DA2 and was like "oh they already used their spell and I have to click space AGAIN, so I barely used it later on in the game. The expedition boss fight kind of gave me a Origins feel but after that it went completely down hill. It essentially was a hack and slash and a (shitty) romance simulator.
The main problem i had with DA2 was that the compainions did not really feel as, i dont know "real" as like origins.
Dragon Age 2 was just made to set the background for Dragon Age 3. It's obvious because nothing happens which is very interesting to do, but is very interesting to hear about. As backstory: The Qunari invasion of Kirkwall sounds epic! As gameplay: So when does the invasion start? Oh, I just killed the Arishok? Okay. As backstory: Flemeth Voldemorted her way out of death and is pissed at Morrigan, can't wait to see what happens. As gameplay: So all I have to do is activate an alter? Okay I guess. As backstory: The Templars went nuts and started killing off the mages ho were forced to result to bloodmagic to survive. As gameplay: WHY IS EVERY MAGE A BLOODMAGE. Meredith is a bitch. Oh the game's over. WTH?

Okay I guess.
Yeah, the whole thing with Flemeth in DA2 was retarded. Once you activate the alter near the beginning of the game, she is never mentioned again. What was the point other than "foreshadowing" DA3? It didn't do anything for the plot at all.
As backstory: The Templars went nuts and started killing off the mages ho were forced to result to bloodmagic to survive. As gameplay: WHY IS EVERY MAGE A BLOODMAGE. Meredith is a bitch. Oh the game's over. WTH?
I didn't like how it just throws you into the final battle. I wanted to do some side quests, but I walked into an area where the mage dude and Meredith were fighting and then BAM! The End.
I never brought it because after I played the first game, I was sort of expecting a fairly in depth RPG with a decent story line. Not a shitty hack and slash which resembles a wankstain on a bed sheet.
They had Eyefinity setups with Dragon Age 2 on them at an AMD event in Dallas. People were bored with it to the point of closing it and playing solitaire across 3 monitors.
Is Hamburger Helper no longer a part of making Dragon Age? That might solve a lot of problems.
The only thing I liked about DA2 was some of the updated visuals, different companion characters and hawks voice. Other then that they managed to strip out everything that made DA epic. The story of DA2 was shit, the recycled environments where shit, no real exploration just a few shitty cities, combat was pretty much ruined as well, made it a button smash fest. I remember in DA:O spending a good amount of time developing a plan so i can defeat bosses or other hard enemies..not in this one. This game should be completely abandoned and swept under the rug. DA2 is like that red headed stepchild that no one likes and wants to go away.
