All of you are way too picky with the quality of your music.
You don't know shit about quality.
I much prefer having the physical disc and case, especially digipacks.
All of you are way too picky with the quality of your music.
Give me even one valid reason to settle for anything less than the best we can manage when it comes to audio quality.
It's the attitude of "It's good enough" that allows publishers to give us less and less for our money, because they know people will accept it.
omg my tastes of music don't match up with the general public FUCK THE SYSTEM
lmao retard
If facepunch's general taste in music was all that was available on the market, record sales would hit an all time low of about 100 sales.
BPI: "Oh no, album sales are dropping! PIRACY! IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF PIRACY!"
Uuh, no, perhaps it's because of this. Biggest selling albums this year:
1. 21 - Adele
2. Christmas - Michael Buble
3. Doo-Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars
4. 19 - Adele
5. Mylo Xylo - Coldplay
6. Loud - Rihanna
7. Born This Way - Lady Gaga
8. Who You Are - Jessie J
9. + - Ed Sheeran
10. Talk That Talk - Rihanna
10 albums of complete and utter shite. Shite. Perhaps noone wants to buy this shit, and that's why your total album sales are dropping?
Fucking BPI man.
whoah whoah whoah. Michael Buble shite? Take that back or I'm calling the police
whoah whoah whoah. Michael Buble shite? Take that back or I'm calling the police
Fuck that I'm calling the opinion police, because his opinion is obviously wrong.
iTunes is fucking bollocks, don't understand why people use it.
Despite it having an account system, you have to rebuy something everytime you want to download it. Fuck, I was once in the middle of downloading a purchased album, when my internet cut out. No biggy, I'll continue the download later. 10 minutes later, open up iTunes, which has presumed that, since my internet cut out without warning, I wouldn't want the rest of the album, and thus wouldn't let me download it. Contacted support who said to rebuy it.
Fuck iTunes.
All the music I have comes from CDs. I prefer paying for something material rather than downloading.
And I don't like the way use the word "digital" as for "downloadable" because CDs are a digital support.

I didn't know iTunes sucked so much. An advantage of download should be the ability to access your music from everywhere and whenever you want.
I buy my music on disc except if it's a game soundtrack or whatever. Preordering signed albums fuck yeah

Grr grr, people like music that I don't, this infuriates me, grr grr.
You don't know shit about quality.
I know that anything over 350 kbit/s is useless.

You know you can go to your purchase history and then redownload any album that you've bought before without buying it again, right?
Maybe because people are tired of the filler they pack in with the good songs.
Good albums don't have fillers...
Where I live there aren't even any music stores left. I think I was the only one around who bought CD's. I don't buy many but when I find a band I like, I like to have the CD. The collector in me likes to have some kind of physical copy I guess.

Amazon's "Cloud Drive" is actually pretty damn good at this. I can access my music anywhere I have internet access, even on my Android phone. Hell, I can even download it straight to the phone and listen to it even when I'm in a dead zone.

You may not notice much difference (if any) on a portable player, but you will on a good set of headphones/speakers. I have the Adam Audio A5's sitting on my desk right now and the difference between mp3 and FLAC or WAV is remarkable.
CD's are just dying out. Why pay 20$ for a CD for maybe 4/12 good songs when you can buy the good things individually and immediately slap them on your ipod.

Well, as we've been discussing, mp3's are lower quality than what you find on a CD. That's where much of the debate lies.
I know that anything over 350 kbit/s is useless.
The only thing useless here is your sound equipment.
I might start buying digital music soon, but until then I'm still buying CDs for older music and bands I like.
The only digital song I've bought is 'Life Goes On' by Tupac on iTunes with some extra gift card money I had.
Wait..
The music industry body said that 26.6 million digital albums were sold, a 24% rise on the previous year.
However, CD album sales fell by 13% to 86.2 million discs. Overall, 6% fewer albums were sold than in 2010.
So in short thats:
24%-13%=11% profit extra for retail and digital albums combined?
Am i doing this wrong or what?
And if you take away that 6% from 13% they are making even more profit in comparison.

You're doing it wrong because the rise in sales on digital is relative to previous digital sales (which are much smaller than previous retail sales), and the fall in sales on retail is relative to the previous retail sales.

okay
I know that anything over 350 kbit/s is useless.
I've had and tested headsets of various types prices and quality, and I barely if ever notice a quality change once it hits 300-400+ kbit/s.
Anything above that is just a waste of space and unnecessary unless you're REALLY that picky with soundquality.

yeah well not everybody can churn out ten to fifteen good songs every year

I'm not one, but there isn't an audio engineer on the planet that's worth his/her salt that would tell you "Anything above 350kb/s is unnecessary."

Well gee sorry I have a decent sound system and yours literally sucks.
You did not just say coldplay are shit
No but. Adele,Bruno Mars,Rihanna,Lady Gaga,Jessie J and Ed Sheeran are shit.
Coldplay and Lady Gaga are pretty good.
Everything else is meh or worse.
That said it's not really that much of a surprise that purchases are on a decline.
