Valve games also have free drops, and also allow you to trade items you don't want with others, again for free.
And they are close to non existant. And when they do drop, its always shit.

How is that different to 95% of all lootboxes in OW being 3 whites and 1 blue?
How is that different to 95% of all lootboxes in OW being 3 whites and 1 blue?
The difference is I didn't pay $2.50 or more to get ONE skin worth 3 cents, and I didn't either wait an unknown ammout of time, or buy the lootbox itself. I just played without really caring about it, as one should, and got the box a while after, then opened it, got whatever came out of it, and went back to playing. All for free.
Valve's loot boxes are honestly the least worst on the market, because there's a way for you to go specifically after any loot box item that you really want, with no gambling required, even if it will be marked up if it's a rare item.
What? Valve's lootboxes are what allowed real gambling (CSGOLotto & Co.) in the first place, because they added monetary value to the items. Sure, you can just buy the rare item, but the majority of people won't buy a $200 knife and instead try their luck with the boxes. I don't know how you can think the lootboxes of Overwatch are worse, especially since you can also get all items without gambling or spending money at all (besides the initial cost of the game obviously and the two BlizzCon skins).

"All for free", you paid $60 for the game.

I literally gave the reason for why I think the Valve loot boxes aren't as bad in the post you quoted. They aren't as bad because you can, if you so desire, purchase any item from a lootbox from another player and receive it guaranteed. It doesn't matter that said knife might be $200.
In contrast, for Overwatch and others, gambling with loot boxes is the only way to receive items, and with Overwatch's plethora of timed events, this is especially insidious. This means that, if time is running out and you really want a certain skin, you have to spend money on a bunch of crates with no guarantee that any of them will even hold the item you're after. I haven't even mentioned how loot boxes in Valve games don't do that, either, at least not in Dota 2, that game will prevent you from receiving duplicates until you've received one of everything, and you're guaranteed to receive whatever that box's "super rare" item is after a certain number of boxes.

As one should, yes, however you missed the part where every human being on this rock is a completely different person and has different desires, impulses and levels of self-control, something which loot-crate systems rely on at a fundamental level.
So great on you for resisting the temptation. Some of us have fallen for the trap and are standing up to say "no more".

So you're excusing Valve with yhe equivalent of skin microtransactions which used to be made for free by the community?
I payed 40 euros actually, roughly 50 dollars, and I'm talking about just the lootboxes.

I think theres bigger problems than a game having lootboxes there...

True as that may be, this is by no means a legitimate defense of lootboxes. They are purposefully designed to prey on people's desire for instant gratification. I don't think that's necessarily bad by itself, but combining it with something that is only technically not gambling is deceitful and immoral at best.

Also true. Ow "saving grace" is that you don't really need to buy them or spend money to open them, but the shop still stands there.
I still think Valve shouldn't get off free though.

1. My wording was "least worst".
2. Using skins is still possible in Valve games, you're just the only one who's able to see them, like it has always been. Contrast to Overwatch where even the recolours are lootbox restricted.
