Yeah, I don't get it either - it looks like the 590 is better when looking only at those FPS benchmarks.
The 590 is a dual GPU card, while this is still only single GPU one. A more apt comparison would be against AMD's 7970.
That's fairly amazing but I doubt there are any games right now that really need that much power. I have a GTX 560 Ti and it's already able to run battlefield 3 at max settings.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-680-review/
Why do they even bother benchmarking Modern Warfare 2? My 4850 can max that game out easily.
Also [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfdKDyVo_P4[/hd] Sweet looking thing
I want that destruction physics demo
Welp, I know where my summer job money is going Who needs gas anyway when you can play on a GTX 690?
Yep I'm buying this.
Hot dang!
Yeah it costs around $679 here, a dollar more would be funny

Yay for being in Sweden, instead of $500 the GPU costs $740 here.
Still A LOT cheaper than here in Brazil. edit: Equivalent price here will be like 910 dollars or more.
man i'm still on a 260gtx and a core2duo and i haven't had a reason to upgrade maybe if games actually pushed hardware there would be reason to upgrade
My 560 Ti is good enough for me.
This card isn't much more powerful than the Radeon 7970, especially if you do overclocking. The 7970's stock frequencies are very low compared to what it's capable of.
I hope I have enough money to get this and an Ivy Bridge when it comes out. It'll be amazing.
my geforce 460 hawk is looking old D:
Still stuck with a $30 graphics card
man i'm still on a 260gtx and a core2duo and i haven't had a reason to upgrade maybe if games actually pushed hardware there would be reason to upgrade
Microsoft and to some extent, Sony.
Still stuck with a $30 graphics card
Holy hell. Why even bother getting something less than like $80? AMD has never been quite as strong in the firmware department.
By the looks of the specs the 680 is the new generation 8800GT?
When is the release and how much will it cost in europe?
Sure, but the TXAA and Physx and the supposed "GPU Boost" thing are what might make me buy this in the end though. AMD has never been quite as strong in the firmware department.
Yeah, currently the best card to buy is obviously the 680. But the GPU boost is just overclock so I don't really get the point of this. As a new 7970 owner I'm just happy that Nvidia didn't release a card twice as powerful for half the price :v: [editline]22nd March 2012[/editline]
By the looks of the specs the 680 is the new generation 8800GT?
The 8800GT was extremely expensive and really smashed ATI's current cards IIRC. The gap doesn't seem so big this time. That's a normal performance increase since the 7970 is out for nearly four months now.
Hot dang!
Selling my liver and banking the money to buy two 690's when they're released. [sp]Yes I realize I won't live very long without a liver but it'll be the most graphically efficient time of my short life[/sp]
Well if it works as advertised, it sort of dynamically overclocks the card to fit whatever conditions.
Unless your card tends to get very hot or your power supply is a bit to weak, keeping a permanent overclock has no downsides.
£420? Get fucked.
Wouldn't that technically mean you're running 4 GPUs in SLI? :psyduck:
Yup. My Corsair HX1000 could handle it. Probably.
Ever since I got my 5850 when it released, there really hasn't been a game that's pushed it to the point where I thought "damn, I wish I had a new card". Games seem to have stagnated while GPUs are getting improved far too quickly.
This still sounds skeptical to me. That Samaritan demo is just a pre-rendered video to me. Incoming boxes, but this is the kind of stuff that still needs more work on to be affordable.
My 560 Ti is good enough for me.
Yeah, and I just bought mine. Coming from a 8700M GT the 560 Ti is a fucking godsend.
