I think this is a step in the right direction for nintendo.
Downloadable content for nintendo games are one of the things i wanted for a long time because it gives them the reason to add new content when otherwise you would get nothing at all. I hope Nintendo are successful enough with the dlc model, I would love them to release levels with unique themes especially if there's a level editor, They could very well release level prop packs for games like the Super Smash Bros and any other Nintendo game with a level editor they could allow anyone to play on custom level editor levels with those props by adding the resources in a patch.
They just need to make a level editor for this game and include online co-op. Imagine god like hard levels with other players.
NSMB is literally a flash game, a level editor was made for it within a WEEK of its release

They should totally make a Mario game in the vein of Little Big Planet, with an fully customizable editor where you can build levels and share them with people online. Doing all kinds of cool levels and crazy designs. That would spice up the franchise a bit.
I don't see anything wrong with this.
i have to be honest i never expected something like this
Ah shit, not you too Nintendo
so their first foray into paid dlc is for a forgettable tacked-on gamemode that will be entertaining for about 10 minutes tops. good start.
in what world do we live in where the mannco store isn't paid dlc
There is a difference: You can still get 95% of the items with just playing the game. People who contribute items in the store get money. There have been a shitload of free DLCs for the game.
in what world do we live in where the mannco store, crates and keys isn't the worst thing Valve has ever done? seriously, if even valve manage to totally fuck up paid for DLC, I'll be interested to see how well nintendo manage it
The items have no affect on the gameplay anyway. You can trade everything. So no one forces you to buy anything. The content with new levels, new maps, new modes and new weapons is completely free.
NSMB is literally a flash game, a level editor was made for it within a WEEK of its release
It's literally a flash game? Where's the Flash compiler for 3DS? It sounds a lot cheaper than a Nintendo devkit.

And grinding for weeks to get just a few of them sounds just as unappealing as paying money for them. TF2's updates aren't designed to get former players back into the game. You basically have to want to play the game as it was the last time you played it to get new stuff, otherwise it's just grinding. That's TF2's weakness.
Oh no, Nintendo continues to make games that sell incredibly much, boo hoo! Seriously, this is just what CoD is doing, if people buy it then keep making it.

Looks like valvedrones arrived early This isn't Nintendo's first experiment with DLC, either. But either way, I don't think I would pay for this gamemode, it was boring enough the first time :x
I thought games (like TF2) were about having fun and not about grinding items.
That is provided you can have fun playing TF2. If you can't then the only thing the game has to offer is the slight chance that you might have fun later, if you're willing to not have fun now (AKA grind).
You don't have to grind. The stock weapons are pretty much better than the unlockables, minus a select few which people barely use.
