Steam is like a retirement home for MMOs.
Ever since this went f2p, it's always been very active.
This game is never being criticized enough for adopting the most retarded F2P model. Basically, if you don't pay, normal gameplay ends around level 20. This is not the case with other MMORPGS, such as Runes of Magic or Everquest II, where you can basically get near end-game without grinding for item shop currency and without reaching for your wallet. Stay away from this game, unless you really like being ripped off.

I have many, many complaints about it, but the F2P model really isn't one of them. Technically, you can get enough points doing things in-game to get all the quest packs without spending a dime. Sure, it takes some time, but if it didn't, no one would ever buy the packs, and keeping the servers up isn't free. If you want to talk about something being a rip off, talk about the new expansion being $40-$70 depending on the version, without having *any* new end-game content.
The new expansions are quite expansive indeed but like what you said you could earn enough Turbine Points to purchase those quest packs for free which is enough imo. But yeah, money has to come in somehow..

I am more concerned with how one gets there. Normal gameplay until level 20-30, grinding afterwards. This does not occur in some other F2P MMORPGs, as I stated before. It's simple. LOTRO restricts the areas you can access, while other games restrict stuff like mounts or inventory slots.

It is a miracle they've at least made the epic story line available for everyone without having to cough up some dough.
