They're supposed to be essentially full auto mini-grenade launchers. I can only hope the game gets more impressive later on in development. That footage did not get me excited.
I hope you're using mini in a relative sense to everything else in the 40k universse

a bolter is essentially a handheld 19 milimeter autocannon, so that's less caliber than the smallest real world grenade launcher I know of that sounds at least kinda usable, being that 25mm airburst shell in that XM25 thing, and the regular grenade launcher being 40mm, I'd dare call it a mini grenade launcher.

Dude, a bolter shell is .75 caliber, that'd be almost the size of my fist, if not about the size. Heavy Bolters are 1.00. Not to mention they have more power than a modern grenade launcher.

The common launched grenade diameter is 40 millimeters, a bolter's projectile is 0.75 inches, that's about 19 mil, while a heavy is 0.998 inches or 25.3mm, so a normal bolter is somewhat "mini" by grenade launcher standards, while a heavy bolter's rounds are slightly larger than the newer XM25 grenades. Although as I said they're technically more akin to rocket launchers, by which standards they're even more miniaturized, because with the exception of the .51/.49 caliber Gyrojet rocket pistol/rifle, those are generally much larger.
It definitely looks and plays like Space Marine.
This is a good thing.
Space Marine was not a great game to be honest, it was fairly shallow and boring. It didn't offer much at all.

Storywise, I'll give you a solid maybe. Gameplay wise? It was soooo incredibly satisfying. Melee felt painful, guns sounded loud and angry, every step sounded like you were a turboheavy borderline machine space marine, and the combo-finishers were just awesome.
Plus, Dat Thunder Hammer, the epitome of painful sounding weapons.
And oh my god the jump sections, those are so amazing.
Multiplayer was fun too when it wasn't being held back by terrible network design. Sniping people with a fucking Lascannon was the best.

Agree on the network, Fuck you on the lascannon.
I had problems with the multiplayer being super laggy all the time.

I almost never snipe in games but there is something about using an anti-tank laser beam to score headshots with that made it enjoyable.

I have to agree with you that the combat is incredibly satisfying, for the first hour or so. After that the game doesn't offer much variety.
The melee combat is extremely underwhelming because you simply spam the same combos all over again, there aren't even many combos to begin with. Also the dodge roll doesn't work properly, often you're still getting hit and die. The shooting feels great when you mow down incoming orcs, but during the later stages when chaos arrives, it's a pain to have decent firefights because there isn't any good cover or you simply spam them until they drop, basically trading shots. I know that Chaos Space Marines are supposed to be strong enemies, but standing there and emptying three bolter magazines into one is boring.
The health system was unique in some way but it was also extremely unreliable, the executions are nice but it's almost the same animation all the time, it get really tedious after a while. Furthermore when you really need health and try to kill execute someone, you will die because the animation takes way to long and you're getting rushed by enemies. This gets really frustrating because the checkpoints are really bad. I like difficult game but it often felt like pure bullshit. Or you can simply spam the special ability which is fairly boring and doesn't offer anything special.
The level design was nice at first when you see the frontline but after a while you will just walk in endless boring corridors and it's so linear. The difficulty is actually nice but the annoying checkpoints and bullshit moments due to the executions and broken jump roll makes it simply frustrating. The jumppacks are great but you only get them three times for a tiny amount of time, this was the only variety that game had to offer.
Also the guns and melee weapons don't really feel distinct, you will always use the same ones. It doesn't offer that much. Also there isn't any variety in the enemy either, you always face the same enemies all over again. Besides the campaign is really short and the plot is boring. It doesn't have any replay value whatsoever. The customization in the multiplayer was nice but it always lagged for me and the whole mp died pretty quickly.
What the game really nailed is the atmosphere and the Space Marine feeling, you really feel like a huge warmachine tearing mowing down enemy lines. The game sounded and looked really nice but apart from that it's just pretty forgettable.
Even as a big 40k and genre fan, it's just not a good game. Especially if you buy it at full price.
I thought the same thing when i watched the video, everything else seemed alright considering it's very early gameplay. The bolter in Space Marine sounded really weak and fired way too fast. Hopefully someone mentions it to them on their official forums when they are up and it gets changed it.
To be honest if bolters were real, they'd sound kinda weak and nothing like firearms we use today, they'd be more POP FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF BANG than the BANG of gunpowder powered guns
Bolters in the lore were fucking powerful
I have one word for you:
Tabletop.
aka Yes lore is frequently toned way the fuck down for balance purposes on the tabletop and for this game.

Well, Grey Knights are still OP as fuck, right? :v:
I seriously hope this takes off.
I also hope everyone I know picks the Orks when it's playable.

You know how they say there'll be 4 factions, and how the game will be free to play?
The only class free players will have access to are Ork Boyz.
So you're sorta in luck.
Which i think is absolute bullshit and a horrible free to play model. They could've at least had one class for each faction but i'm pretty sure they said somewhere that it'd take like ten or twenty Boyz classes to take down a Marine class

I think it's the best shit ever. We will have a 100% genuine triggerhappy, bloodthirsty mob of brutes with no sense of self-preservation!
Well, yeah, that'll be great and all until some high-level Marine player comes and destroys the new player areas.
Anyone else think that playing as an Imperial Guardsman would be fucking awesome?
Yeah dieing from one hit over and over two feet from spawn would be the best.

Uh the lore usually utterly massively overpowers rules. A great example is the lasgun which is generally considered a beast in fluff, but ruleswise they tend to not be very big.
Spacemarines, necron and eldar for instance are another example where fluffwise they are massively massively stronger than anything you get in rules. In order to be able to maintain a balance. And lore!=rules.
Anyone else think that playing as an Imperial Guardsman would be fucking awesome?
In a game with eldar guardians and dire avengers, orks, tau and nids? Yes. In a game with necron and spacemarines? Definitely no.

Playing as some sort of Stormtrooper regiment or something that isn't just standard guardsman would be nice, and it would make things a bit fairer. I doubt that would happen though, it's always just Cadians.
