• Valve refunds gamer due to BioShock Infinite's religious content

I think it's a funny situation, to be honest. Especially since even the situation itself can draws parallel with events much further on in the game's story. If only he'd give the game the benefit of the doubt enough to see it play out. I totally respect his beliefs, sharing with some of them myself, however his logic is rather jarring. It's just an immersion technique. They could've scripted the event, sure, as you can't really reject it in context, but it seems the technique worked pretty well if he feels he's contradicting himself over the game's illusion over the choice. It's almost like reading a book where the main character says "God damn it," and the reader confesses reading the words in his head thus claiming he's broken the 3rd Commandment. It's pretty ridiculous. After all, Christianity is about forgiveness so in all actuality, should something so trivial even matter in that context?

I guess to some people that could be worse than murder, seeing how at least that could be forgiven but hey - the dude just wanted a refund. he's not shoving anything down anyone's throat so we shouldn't be shoving anything down his
uh it's a game, it's not really going on... i really want to talk to this person. don't they realize it's all a bunch of polygons and textures and sprites and pretty lighting being rendered inside of a box hooked up to their tv? they aren't forced to do diddly dick except watch. what's happening isn't happening to them.

Regardless of motive of belief, I have much respect for Valve just for simply honoring the request itself.
actually i bet this person is like 12 or something and is still not dis-illusioned yet by puberty
I don't really understand the logic. He IS Christian, therefore he can't get baptized in a game? Aren't christians all for baptisms??
I don't really understand the logic. He IS Christian, therefore he can't get baptized in a game? Aren't christians all for baptisms??
Diffirent cults of Christianity I guess.
That's not how it sounds in the article. He's like 'baptism is at the heard of christianity, so as a christian, i cannot be baptized in this game' ?????? [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] is it that he can't have a double baptism or something??
Why am I not surprised? Why is this so common?
I don't really understand the logic. He IS Christian, therefore he can't get baptized in a game? But that's the only explaination I had, I'm pretty sure the guy had his reasons. Even if he really just wanted some attention over getting a refund, who knows.

It's like there's a big piece of the story missing or something.
This article gave me headache...
I bet he's played plenty of games where he's shot people, but his beliefs are that he shouldn't do that, also. Hey, it's been 2 weeks. Enough time to play through the game twice. I want a refund now
Don't Valve usually issue every user at least one refund, no matter what the reason?
Ha no, I bought torchlight 2 for myself by accident, thought I clicked ''gift''. Yeah clumsy me. I asked if I can send that copy from my library to another person because I haven't played it yet. The reply I got was telling to buy my friend a full-priced copy then I will get refunded for that one which was on a deal. Fucking bullshit, I got sad :(. I think it just depends what person you get on support. Most of them are glad to help, but sometimes you get responses that are not even related to your question.
This guy is a complete fucking wanker, And here's why He's forced to do something against his believes , But shooting murdering and torturing people isn't against his believes? If you're not okay with doing stuff in videogames that you wouldn't do in real life either then that's fine I couldn't care less, But in this case he's a just simple being a fucking hypocrite.
but hey - the dude just wanted a refund. he's not shoving anything down anyone's throat so we shouldn't be shoving anything down his
No one is shoving anything down this throat, we're perfectly entitled to talk about how we think he's silly just like how he's entitled to get a refund.
He was refunded because that was the cheapest and lowest profile way to address his complaint, not because Valve is so nice. They easily could have refused to refund him, but considering possible backlash it wasn't worth it. Don't blind yourself by thinking Valve is oh so charitable and nice and respectful. They're a business. No matter how their game development is organised, they're still a business and they work as a business.
Nobody asked for a refund when MW2 was released with No Russian campaign. Either these group of people are bunch of trolls or they really are nuts
No one is shoving anything down this throat, we're perfectly entitled to talk about how we think he's silly just like how he's entitled to get a refund.
Everyone should be entitled to a refund, there's nothing special about this guy. Valve is notorious for caving on its 'no refund' policy anyway.
Nobody asked for a refund when MW2 was released with No Russian campaign. Either these group of people are bunch of trolls or they really are nuts
That's because the mission is optional, they actually warn you prior to the mission asking if you would want to play it or not. If you make the decision to play it, then you are accountable for your decision.
But it's not the player getting the baptism, it's the character. Do people just not listen to the main characters' dialogues in games?
Of course not because actually paying attention would require an attention span, and attention spans are for NERDS! So religious people....what shall you flip the fuck out about next?
