Where's Bad Rats? Or was that 2012?
What are you talking about? Bad Rats is best game.
I don't see how that changes anything. They used money meant for one thing to do something else? Sounds like how Valve uses money they make from games to do Steam stuff rather than make games.
When you buy a product, all you're doing is exchanging money for the product (or a license to use it). No obligations.
Sega gave Gearbox money with the express purpose of putting it into A:CM.
Don't get me wrong, trading cards and the community market are a disgusting money grab. But at least Valve are playing with their own money and not somebody else's.
Do you really not see the difference, or are you just being a silly goose?
There isn't one. Just because Valve owns Steam doesn't change anything. They're using money FOR games on Steam. I'm not saying Valve is the devil but everyone here is just blindly imagining Valve as the perfect company and hating every other developer for making the same mistakes that Valve does.
why isn't gone home on that list?

You're selling cookies. I buy you some cookies. Do you have the obligation to spend this money on making more cookies?

There's a difference between buying a game and funding the development of a game.
Valve has no obligation to use the money they acquire from video game sales on further game development.
Gearbox, on the other hand, was obligated to use the money for the specific purpose of developing a game for sega.

What the hell are you talking about? How is spending money on Steam from their own game sales (which probably a fraction of all sales) instead of using it to make games bad?
No doubt Valve makes mistakes but try to come up with examples that make sense.
why isn't gone home on that list?
Because Gone Home isn't bad, just massively overrated for no good reason.
Gone "Where are the killstreaks?" Home
Sorry, this is for "Games"
why isn't gone home on that list?
Writer didn't think it was a game.
gone home? heh more like walking simulator. sry guys this is not a real game.
i should know for i am a Real Gamerâ„¢.
The article got Gearbox wrong. They can do other people's IPs just fine. Duke Nukem Forever was a mess to begin with and Aliens was mostly TimeGate developing it with Gearbox's money. I'm not saying they didn't fuck up ACM, but Duke totally wasn't their fault at all. In fact Gearbox did a lot of redeeming for it with boosting the weapon count and the pretty amazing Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC.
Still, they can easily do non-original IP's just fine. Their first game was someone else's IP. Maybe you've heard of it, it's called Half-Life Opposing Force. They also did Blue Shift, Decay, the HD packs, and ported the game/s to various consoles. Gearbox has probably done more for Half-Life than Valve has.
But yeah ACM.
So what you're saying is
Homeworld is going to suck

Have you gone back and played the expansions recently?
They... aren't very good.

OpFor is still awesome. Blue Shift, not so much, and Decay was just bad. But OpFor is probably the third-best Half-Life game.
So what you're saying is

What are you basing this off of.
All they're doing is an HD re-release and a vanilla re-release on steam.

How is it a hard concept to understand? Valve can use it's own money on anything it wants, while we might not agree with it and call them out on it, they can use it on Steam, other games, trading cards, prostitutes, cocaine smuggling, who gives a crap, basically anything.
When Sega, makes a contract and hires Gearbox to make an Aliens game for them, gives them money SOLELY to make that game and Gearbox decides to outsource the game and use Segas money on Borderlands 2 isn't the same thing at all.
It's like if you give me money for my birthday, you hope I buy Need for Speed with it but I buy Farming Simulator instead, doesn't matter you gave it to me so I could do whatever I wanted with it, what you hoped I would buy with it doesn't matter. Now let's say I owned a table company and you wanted a table, you give me money and specifically tell me you want a table. What I do is take your money for your table, spend it on the table I'm making for myself and call the small time not as good company down the street with the rest of the money and say "make this guy a table" and you get an inferior table made by someone else which you didn't want.
Do you see the difference now or are you still having trouble? ones ok to do, the other isn't because your not getting what you wanted, and don't pull the "lol blindly loving Valve" thing your doing because it makes no sense with this and I personally give Valve tons of shit when they do something dumb.
why isn't gone home on that list?
Because it isn't a bad game? it's a small nice little game where you explore a house and look at the different things happening to the family. That's it, everyone is blowing it out of proportion so damn much, whether you hate it for some stupid reason or think it's the second coming of Christ. For what it is, it's a pretty cool game and I had fun playing it.
I've never even heard of 90% of this list.
There isn't one. Just because Valve owns Steam doesn't change anything. They're using money FOR games on Steam. Except this would be more like me giving Valve an exorbitant amount of money (say $80 million) to make a specific game and then they turn around and blow it on another game and hookers and blow.
why isn't gone home on that list?
Just because you're too uncultured to appreciate a good artistic video game doesn't mean it sucks.
I take it the "winners" are in no particular order, because from what I've heard Survival Instinct should be much higher up on that list if they were listed 1-10.
There isn't one. Just because Valve owns Steam doesn't change anything. They're using money FOR games on Steam. A publisher gives money to a developer to make a product for them. A product THEY'RE supposed to profit from. But the developer, instead, uses the money on a separate project that has nothing to do with this publisher. And you see nothing wrong with this?
And don't use Valve as an example because it's fucking stupid. Valve can do whatever they want with revenue from Steam because it's THEIR money. Not someone else's.
