Previous games had necromorphs popping out of vents in dark corridors. DS3 changes that into monsters jumping out of snow during blinding blizzards.
Maybe it will be too action-y but DS2 was going that route already and it was a lot of fun. Not to mention the weapon crafting system seems like a lot of fun.
Yes, but at the same time you were in a dark, enclosed space with no clue what was going to be around the next corner, and you know, all the shit that actually made Dead Space scary. Granted, I can't really say anything for DS3 yet because it's JUST a demo as of now, but the demo relies solely on jump scares is what I was saying. At the very least, it doesn't make me very hopeful for the full game.
unless your nerves are literally made of jello and baby hair, Dead Space never really got to the point where you'd think "man I'm so spooked right now" as much as it was just "oh hey a vent I WONDER WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT"

Trust me it is, I've spent most of my time with the demo just dicking around in it.
Dead Space 1 was a nice throwback to survival horror, yes. But Dead Space 2 proved that it can still be a great game if it focuses less on scares and more on action. Dead Space 3 is just the logical progression. I can understand disappointment that its not a straight up survival horror game anymore, but to say DS3 is going to be bad because of it is ridiculous. Based on what I've played, If you liked Dead Space 2, you're going to like 3. Dead Space 1 is so blown out of proportion as a "scary game", when it really isn't. The same jump scares that people lambaste Dead Space 2 and 3 for are still in Dead Space 1. It had a tense atmosphere, but so did 2. And based on the fact that most we've seen of DS3 so far is focusing on the action (because lets be honest, as marketing material, walking around in spooky dimly lit corridors is a TERRIBLE choice), we have no real reason to believe that lonesome tense feeling is completely erased. And don't even try and use Co-op as an argument counter to that, the tow are perfectly seperated. From what I've played the way thing played out in single player compared to multiplayer is handled flawlessly.
It just pisses me off to see so many people jump to hating this game "BECUASE COOP ADN DODGE ROLLS AND HUMANN ENEMIES" without even giving it a chance.
dodge rolling killed my family, i fucking hate when games have nice controls
honestly i kept pressing space in ds2 because other games had me accustomed to dodge rolling
I actually never used the dodge roll in the demo, it was easier to just turn and run like in the older games. v:v:v

Yeahno. Its pretty clearly a reskin of the security suit.

BECAUSE IT HAS COOP AND HUMAN ENEMIES AND DODGE ROLLING AND NOT SCARY ENUF TO BE DEAADA SPACE!

DS1 had some genuinely creepy, close to genuine horror moments. A lot of it was cheap scares but I'd consider it atleast occasionally horror.
Dead Space 2 dropped all pretense of this and was almost purely an action game, and every time I see the same canned responses in DS3 news posts about how the game is becoming an action game instead of a horror game, I have to wonder if they even played DS2.
To me, what really made the dead space kind of spooky was the fact that all the necromorphs vaguely resembled humans, as their forms were literally twisted and bent. They weren't human anymore, but you could still see parts and bits like ribcages and skulls. In this, you're facing purely human looking necromorphs, so it feels a bit off.
Dead Space could have become one of the best sci-fi horror franchises in a long time if they did horror, pacing, and survival more than action, dodge rolling, and spooky skeleton Nicole.
Also Dead Space 2 had a lot less audio logs and logs all together than 1.

That I can agree on, I don't like the new Waster necromorph. It just looks like a guy with ice picks until you shoot him in half, then he goes all necromoprh-y. However, a few of the one's you've seen are actually human corpses that had "divider heads" or what ever take control of them, so in that sense, it adds up.
Dead Space 3 should have tank controls, fixed camera angles, and be set in a mansion with zombies.
DODGE ROLLING GET IT BECAUSE WHEN YOU GIVE THE PLAYER MORE CONTROL GAME LESS SCARE GOD I MISS RE1
Ya, pretty much agree with this.
And be released on the play station 1.

When that one regenerating Necromorph whose name I've forgotten started showing up again towards the end of the first game, that was pretty close to being genuinely scary. It's just that these little pockets of fear were too spread thin overall, so the game mostly had to rely on jump-scares and spooky atmosphere to get any kind of reaction to you.
Honestly, I think it's good that Visceral are playing to their strengths now. The jumps are still there and the scarier bits are just as sparse, but every room brings a cool new set-piece or a very interesting design to balance it out, and I think it all works very well in the long run.

WHAT A PLANET CRACKER!
YOU ALMOST BECAME A ISAAC SANDWICH!
ITS A PLASMA CUTTER! ITS VERY POWERFUL! ESPECIALLY AGAINST DEAD THINGS!
IT MIGHT BE HANDY IF YOU, THE MASTER OF STOMPING, TAKE IT WITH YOU!
Ok I'll stop now.

Why did you quote your own thing and respond to it instead of just editing your post.
But that looks just like a simple reskin, doesn't look good at all.
It's just the security armor from DS2 or whatever with N7 printed on the chest.
It's just the security armor from DS2 or whatever with N7 printed on the chest.
Well, it sure replicates Bioware's work ethic.
Why did you quote your own thing and respond to it instead of just editing your post.
Why's it matter?
If you MUST know, my automerge to my PS1 comment was broken, and so I quoted it to merge to my RE joke made in that earlier post to that new one, so that it was more obvious that I was making a series of Dead Space/Resident Evil cross over jokes.
I am TERRIBLY sorry if that did not live up to your expectations of posting etiquette and proper posting format.
That armor looks supremely ugly.
This game seems like a real let down. They took the whole "lost in space alone" survival idea and threw it out the window.
They should had stopped at 2, while the game still managed to be a bit creepy.
And SOMEHOW, people shat themselves playing it. It wasn't THAT scary...

Actually, I'll quote you on all that.
I can play RE2 even with the tankiest of tanky controls on a smartphone without any problems.
A survival horror game isn't supposed to be as easy to play as for example a 3rd person action game.
So basically, what they did was take the horror out and make it yet another generic game.
Oh no Max Payne is fat this time and not and New York and Agent 47 can go into slow mo oh now everything is ruineDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Don't get me wrong, I love me some good ole fashion tank controls, I was just trying to make a point that Dead Space is Dead Space, and the series progression shouldn't have to lead it towards clunkier controls that are more customary with survival horror games of the past. Dead Space 1 was considered very much a survival horror game but still features the same controls as DS2 and 3, just with the addition of a rolling maneuver in 3.

No one said Dead Space needed clunkier controls, 1 was fine.
In 2 you actually move faster and are quicker to turn, and a more open angle.
People are just saying they should have gone the survival horror route instead of the action route.

Aaaand that's bad?
Because if you think it is, then you're saying Dead Space 1 was better, and Dead Space 1 was clunkier, ergo you want it to be clunkier...

It can end up being bad since those types of controls add or take away from the game in horror games especially.
I mean if you were running and dodging while shooting in RE4 it would have been a lot less tense and scary.
They already nailed it right with Dead Space 1 with controls.
No one is saying that they want even worse controls because nothing was wrong with 1s.
why is this getting rated dumb when tf2 gets promo items far more unfitting than this every 3 weeks
in my eyes, it's because it's just a fast reskin. other eyes are probably summed up with 'Dead Space 3'
My name is Commander Shepard and this is the biggest trainwreck of a game on the Citadel.
It looks like a really simple addition of the N7 emblem onto a re-skin of the Security Guard armor from DS2. Hopefully this is just a place-holder. If not, then this is just a really cheap way to grab fans of Mass Effect.
Why would they release screenshots of placeholders officially like this when marketing the actual product?
This is as cheap as it looks. All promo items usually are.
god damn they couldn't be pandering to braindead cod-kiddies with this game any harder now if they tried
Honestly, I'm not minding the cheap look of the armor, because I won't be using it. Same reason I never used the blood dragon set in ME2, its unfitting (though I suppose the lore behind the blood dragon set is a tad more sound).
Dead Space 1 and 2 were fairly decent shooter / spooky games, 1 being remotely spooky.
3 looks to just be a striahgt up shooter with boring monster designs, human enemies, zambies with assault rifles and over the top bosses.
It's like, if Dead Space 1 and 2 were happy ripping off Resident Evil 4, why did they decide to rip of 5?
Anyway, played the demo.
Universal ammo says more about this game then I ever could.
